I’m on holiday and seem to be the only one showering before using the pool

Interesting, I’ve spent quite a bit of time abroad either holiday or living and I’ve noticed here none of the other guests are using the poolside shower.
Not sure whether to be more performative to role model or question my whole understanding of why we do it 🤣

You're going to be shocked when you find out where people are peeing.

Naurrr · 13/10/2026 16:45

Probably best not thinking about what's in the pool.

(Everything on a human body, or from all of its orifices. From hundreds of people.)

I don’t want to know, I’ve read enough about kettles over the years 🤮

Thanks @Naurrr for that image.

No one ever uses the poolside shower unless it’s to get sand off their feet

PoppieCock · 13/10/2026 17:27

I don't think I've ever showered before I've got in the pool.

It's a bit pointless anyway unless you use soap or shower gel, surely?

The water's just going to make your suntan cream go weird and sludgy.

Somanyhotdrinks · 13/10/2026 17:28

This is how you are choosing to spend your holiday? Keeping track of whether people shower before entering the pool??

CherryKerry · 13/10/2026 17:29

The pool water gets right in your noony so showering beforehand doesn't really do anything!

Anarchy99 · 13/10/2026 17:31

Why have you presumably spent money so that you can spend your time showing others they are wrong by modelling ‘good behaviour’ for people who couldn’t give a toss?

MissMoneyFairy · 13/10/2026 17:31

How do you know they haven't showered in their room, does anyone shower before the pool, what's the point.

‘Noony’? Is that one of those twee nicknames for genitals?

TofuTuesday · 13/10/2026 17:33

Oh god this is a light hearted observation while I’m doing nothing on a lounger. Forgot MN would start the whole weird shit about better things to do.

Get a cocktail…. This response would indicate that you’re not yet in holiday mode!!

I think it’s more that people are surprised that you have even noticed what others are doing. Perhaps take a book with you next time?

PashaMinaMio · 13/10/2026 17:36

Funny you should mention this but there are notices up in my club/gym/pool about showering prior to using the pool.

Apparently a quick shower washes off a lot of pool contaminating oils, grease, sweat, smegma etc.

I find it inconsiderate of sweaty-straight-off -the street or building site people who on hot days don’t shower pre swim but hey-ho it is what it is. I carry on carrying on in the deep end.

No, just vaginas not generic genitals, I'm from the generation that was light hearted and fun with body part terminology 😉.

You should try it sometimes, makes for a bit of a giggle when you drop noony, jobby and wanger into conversations. Much better than looking like you're sucking on a lemon.

QueenStevie · 13/10/2026 17:36

MN always thinks there's something better to do. I go on holiday purely to people watch! It's one very important reason I'd never book a private villa.

In response to your thread, poolside showers are invariably shit and omit nothing more than a trickle and I think what's the point? Also, you don't know if someone has literally just showered in their room.

Mine does and before aqua aerobics everyone does - although I guess I have better things to do than notice that right 🤣🤣

I'd notice OP, that others are comfortable ignoring the signs, but bit seems to me almost no one showers before using any kind of pool.

I always do, but my main motivation is that it makes getting into a cold pool easier.

For those wondering what the point is if you not having a "proper" wash, it's to rinse off dirt, cosmetics, lose skin and hair and protect the filters . The chlorine deals with germs.

QueenStevie · 13/10/2026 17:38

I do shower at my gym pool because a) the shower is half decent so you feel like it is actually washing you and b) I have usually just arrived from work or in other outdoors type clothes or come from a gym class (sweaty)

Yeah I’ve been enjoying the street views form the balcony and the people watching in general. It’s very friendly, and quite small.

I’m from a generation (GenX) that didn’t need to invent twee names 🤷‍♀️ but you do you.

Genuinely - why do people do that? I hear about people sitting in cafes people watching - just why? Are other people so infinitely fascinating and entertaining? Or is it because there is nothing better to do?

I think it’s really odd.

TofuTuesday · 13/10/2026 17:45

People watching is a thing. Might not be your thing, but other people do it.

Whoever you’re on holiday with - do they shower before getting in the pool?
