I’m on holiday and seem to be the only one showering before using the pool

Interesting, I’ve spent quite a bit of time abroad either holiday or living and I’ve noticed here none of the other guests are using the poolside shower.
Not sure whether to be more performative to role model or question my whole understanding of why we do it 🤣

@Anarchy99if you look as grouchy as you sound you probably provide plenty of fodder for people watchers!

TalonOfDuty · 14/10/2026 09:18

After reading about all the grimness in the pool on this thread I'm going to start having a shower when I get out of the pool!

It's the sun cream that blocks the filters in the pool.

But you can’t shower it off without soap or shower gel.

Never as an adult, either in the UK or ahroad.

Obviously I am missing out on the chance to have things ‘modelled’ to me

Could you start a thread @Anarchy99 about never ever going on holiday? Do you live alone?

Natsku · 14/10/2026 11:28

People not showering before swimming are nasty. So glad I live in a country where everyone showers properly before going in the pool (with instructive pictures up on the wall to inform visitors)

herecomestheairfryer · 14/10/2026 11:33

I'm with you OP. The last poolside survey I did whilst on holiday revealed a shocking 14.7% of guests having a pre-pool shower before entering the swimming pool. It was a 3 star in Turkey though, perhaps in 5 star hotels it's closer to 100%.

I’m from a generation (GenX) that didn’t need to invent twee names 🤷‍♀️ but you do you.

I'm from the generation that doesn't sneer and nitpick at other people's use of language, and in doing so tries to invalidate or belittle their point of view. I was born in the 70s, so God only knows what generation that makes me, but it means I've been around long enough to know the beauty of the English language are the variances, localism and evolution of words and phrases. I would have a Google at the many different words in the English language for vagina, but would hate what that would do to my search history. 🤣

Oh don’t be silly. I’m in same generation as you.

No, just vaginas not generic genitals, I'm from the generation that was light hearted and fun with body part terminology 😉.

You should try it sometimes, makes for a bit of a giggle when you drop noony, jobby and wanger into conversations. Much better than looking like you're sucking on a lemon.

Totally forgot about Jobby. Gonna put that in a sentence today thank you 😂

You're from a generation that's very opinionated about those who don't conform to what you personally believe is acceptable. You've criticised those who like people watching, you've criticised the user who has harmless nicknames for private parts. Ironically, you've said the people watchers must have nothing better to do, yet here you are, commenting over and again on a MN thread. Maybe get a book to read?

TheThirteenthFairy · 14/10/2026 11:53

It's not your shoulders that need a rinse though, is it? It's your betweens, and a quick shower won't reach them. I shudder to think how many dingleberries are dissolving in the pool.

DevastatingFinish · 14/10/2026 11:57

Get yourself to Lalandia (Danish Center Parcs) for your next holiday. Full nude showering mandatory before entering the pool. Slightly shocking for the Brits.

WarmAleAndBlackLabrador · 14/10/2026 11:59

I've never showered in a pool shower unless I've been on the beach, I would be embarrassed. It really isn't that I only go to 3* establishments either (and there really is nothing wrong with a cheap quick getaway to Beni) it's just that I practice good hygiene in the privacy of my own room before going down.

margegunderson · 14/10/2026 12:02

CherryKerry · 13/10/2026 17:29

The pool water gets right in your noony so showering beforehand doesn't really do anything!

In your where?
vulva and vagina are perfectly good words for an adult to use you know. Perfectly good for children as well.

Anarchy99 · 13/10/2026 17:43

Genuinely - why do people do that? I hear about people sitting in cafes people watching - just why? Are other people so infinitely fascinating and entertaining? Or is it because there is nothing better to do?

I think it’s really odd.

Yes, people are infinitely interesting.

Please explain the silly. The wider, more serious issue is that people should be able to call their bits whatever they want and whatever they feel comfortable with, whether it be on a silly talk thread or, and more importantly, when in distress. Of course we teach our children the correct terms, and I'm straight talking so I use the proper medical words with my doctor, but let's not be dismissive about people who aren't.

yes - everyone born in the 70s is from a generation of saints

I can multi task actually - ADHD can be a gift. 😊

Clearly I have touched a nerve. I genuinely don’t understand why people do it, that’s all. And I think it’s weirdly kind of intrusive. Maybe that’s my ND brain but I was hoping someone could give me some insight into what exactly is so fascinating about people getting on with their lives.

Surprisedtbh · 14/10/2026 07:58

When I’m on holiday - I don’t give a hoot what others are doing or not doing or judging me or not judging me. I’m enjoying myself too much.

Thats good - you may be in a minority if this thread is anything to go by 🤣

Sunbringer · 14/10/2026 14:56

It’s full of chlorine there’s not much point showering before… shower after to get the chlorine off, yes.

Porridgeontheroad · 14/10/2026 14:57

Anarchy99 · 14/10/2026 14:53

No I don’t live alone.

Do they holiday alone? Or also have never taken a holiday since being an adult?

LeedsLoiner · 14/10/2026 15:12

As a chap if I was sitting by the pool looking at other people's showering habits I have the feeling a lot of people on here would be calling me a "noony" or worse😀

They go away when they want

Summerstuff · 14/10/2026 15:35

@Anarchy99 if you have kids - have they also never holidayed abroad or in UK? or do they go with their dad?
