Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

I took my son into Next in Leicester to buy new clothes and while he was trying them on, a man emerged from the changing room with a suit he was going to buy. I knew I recognised him but couldn't place how or why. I worked as a Probation Officer and decided he was an ex client I had supervised, so I had better be friendly. I really could not remember anything about him so just engaged in vague conversation, asking him how he was, how his family was, had he kept out of trouble etc. He gamely answered me and asked after my family. He went and paid for his suit and left the shop. I then went to pay and the assistant said to me- "you do realise that was Jamie Vardy, don't you?". I was mortified- he was probably the most famous footballer in England but certainly Leicester that year!

In fairness, Jamie Vardy played non-league football with an electronic ankle tag after a conviction for assault, so you could well have recognised him from your probation work!

Do you remember Des Barnes from Coronation Street circa 1996? Because I confused him for my husband from behind on platform 7 (I remember it vividly) Bristol Temple Meads.
As a joke I rolled up a newspaper and shouted through the middle like a loudspeaker 'the train has landed stumpy' and Des turned round and said 'please I've been working all week all I want to do is enjoy my day off'. And then I had to explain I thought he was my husband but I couldn't get the words out and I called him ken Barlow.

😂

I met one of my tv crushes Guy Pearce after a panto he was in. It was when Neighbours was popular in the uk in the early 90’s. In my defence I was only 11. I had bought one of the photos of him they were flogging. When it got to my turn to get his autograph I just stood there staring at him without saying anything. 😂😂😂Then said thank you and walked away.

I worked in the music industry so I’ve met loads through that

but outside of work I banged into (literally banged into because I wasn’t looking where I was going) Josh hartnett. He lives up the road from me and i didn’t even know who he was. He was very fine about it. Wasn’t till my kids told me who it was and I laughed so hard. Don’t know why.

I was fishing as a child in a competition. I was all set up, had my registration plate showing and everything, but my grandad (who had set me up) hadn’t seen the “private” pitch sign as the hedge was covering it. legitimately, the competition was all along the river, I happened to be on the only private pitch.
A very tall man came walking down to me, and asked me what I was doing. I proudly said “I’m winning this competition, see?” And held up a net with a massive trout in it.
Turned out that tall man was Chris Tarrant and I was fishing off his private pitch. He didn’t get angry or anything, just told me to make sure I won, which I did. Nicest person ever, even took the photographs of my winning catch afterwards and talked to my grandad for ages. They both sat and watched me win!

Most definitely not Vernon Kay or Paddy McGuinness, no, absolutely not!

I love the Chris Tarrant fishing story.

My boyfriend spotted Scarlett Johannson in a boutique in London. She was looking at clothes & beautifully dressed in skinny jeans, ballet shoes, a striped top and a fine black headband. She had a bodyguard with her who kind of hung around outside so she was on her own but wasn't, which must have been weird. She was angling her face so that you couldn't quite see her which she was obviously very used to doing. My boyfriend claimed they locked eyes for a long moment.

I got spitroasted by David Haye and Dean Gaffney at the Hippodrome in 1998.
It was average.

When I was at college, I saw a chap I really recognised in Blackwells, the bookshop. He had an American accent, and I thought he must be a visiting student as we had loads of them. I had just started going out with one of them, so assumed he must be one of his friends. As I was going over to ask him if he was in our MCR, I realised that he wasn’t a student at all. It was Val Kilmer. So I went from heading across smiling and opening my mouth to say hello, to swerving aside and scuttling off.

I also nearly flattened Roger Black by pushing a door open into his face when running for a crash call as a house officer. The interaction consisted of me yelling “so sorry” as I ran away.

In 1977/78, I had to have an operation at Stoke Mandeville hospital. I found out I'd missed Saville by a day. I remember being quite disappointed. I would certainly count it as a blessing now!
As a traffic warden in the late 80s I booked Koo Stark
Had a nice snog in the early 80s with a dark haired, good looking chap from Mud, who's name escapes me
Sat in a small cafe in Edale, Derbyshire on the table next to Jarvis Cocker

Both foot related, oddly.

When I was 12, I went to my first ever concert with my friends and before our parents collected us, we went to the stage door to get an autograph. It was Chris Isaak, of Wicked Game fame. He accidentally stood on my toe, and was so apologetic and lovely.

As a student, we used to revise and sunbathe on the grass in College. Stephen Hawking ran over my foot in his chair. He did not apologise, nor did his nurse, and it bloody hurt.

On the grass in college? Without being told to get off?!
