Would you vote to re-join the EU in another referendum?

Simple question. If there is another referendum to re-join the EU, will you be voting to re-join?

This isn't to have a go at anyone who supported Brexit, or who supported Remain, it's just a quick straw poll. Thank you. Smile

If anyone is wondering, (or cares!) I think I will vote to re-join. (I won't say at this point what I voted for last time...)

@GasPanic ,

‘Finally if the EU is to survive, it needs to Federalise. It does this by having strong members that want that process to happen. The UK isn't interested in greater Federalisation, and the sniping from the sidelines position that it took throughout the 00's would just be a barrier to Federalisation and not help it.’

I agree with this. The EU is still neither a federation nor a trade alliance. It sits uneasily between the two. And, until they federalise, the Euro is an accident waiting to happen and could blow the entire project up.

OTOH, we have lost hugely from leaving the single market. I had no idea it would be this bad and it has cost us real money which could have been spent on improving everyone’s lives. We should rejoin this as soon as possible. It would also give us freedom of movement, which I know is a concern to many.

rhubarbqueen · 01/10/2026 15:15

It depends on the terms and conditions that the EU were offering us.

MyKindHiker · 01/10/2026 15:16

Of course. We are demonstrably poorer and weaker out of the EU based on every single economic indicator and fact available to us.

And I want for Andy Burnham to stand up and say this. Some things are facts. Some people are experts. It's not just 'opinion', Brexit made us worse off. End of.

I am not sure a MN poll will tell you much, though.

It is mostly a well off urban, well educated demographic, and will be even more so merely by clicking on this thread.

I am not sure it will tell us much about the views of the red wall seats which are marginal Labour/Reform.

Surprised that's your perception. Most political feeds I see on here look like they are sponsored by Reform and populated with daily mail readers commenting.

BrinkWomanship · 01/10/2026 15:18

The previous government delivered Brexit poorly. This government would deliver us back into the EU poorly.

Rookie93 · 01/10/2026 15:22

Although I voted to remain originally I think that having made a decision as a country we should stick with it and work on remaking our relationships with the EU and more globally on that basis. Millions were wasted on Brexit and it was politically devicive & we've only just started to stabilise. It will cost millions probably billions to rejoin & cause more political issues. Strongly feel as a country we should be focused on sorting out the major issues we can actually influence that matter to the UK, which probably will mean developing a close working relationship with Europe. Think it was a huge mistake to leave but we made it and should move on as we are.

Newbutoldfather · 01/10/2026 15:22

@MyKindHiker ,

‘Surprised that's your perception. Most political feeds I see on here look like they are sponsored by Reform and populated with daily mail readers commenting’

I think that is confirmation bias! You notice the posts that disagrees with your view.

https://yougov.com/en-gb/articles/54567-how-strong-is-uk-support-for-rejoining-the-european-union

Most recent national poll is 59/32 to rejoin EU.

This poll is 77/21.

Kind of proves my perception is closer to the truth.

How strong is UK support for rejoining the European Union?

YouGov data tracks British public opinion on our future relationship with the EU

There’s obviously a lot of Labour supporters on here. You probably don’t notice as much as it’s similar views to yours.

The previous government delivered Brexit poorly. This government would deliver us back into the EU poorly.

The government that delivered Brexit were amongst the greatest cheerleaders for Brexit. Who better to deliver the benefits of Brexit than those who argued in favour of it?

If they delivered it poorly - and of course they did - then that merely reflects the fact that there was never any realistic possibility of delivering it well. It was always doomed to fail, as many of us realised from the start.

EasternStandard · 01/10/2026 15:24

GasPanic · 01/10/2026 14:55

No.

The EU doesn't have much to offer us economically.

The EU itself is in trouble and the core economic growth is stagnant. They are starting to consider more and more protectionist methods to protect their markets.

We are now exploring our agreements with other countries and they will begin to benefit us in the future. Our growth is currently better than the core, and Project Fear has nowhere near come to pass.

For security we still have NATO, our partnerships with the US and Australia, and our military alliances with Norway.

In order to rejoin the EU will make the terms very expensive. Probably joining the EZ, contributing more to the CAP etc which would not be good value for us.

Finally if the EU is to survive, it needs to Federalise. It does this by having strong members that want that process to happen. The UK isn't interested in greater Federalisation, and the sniping from the sidelines position that it took throughout the 00's would just be a barrier to Federalisation and not help it.

The UK and Europe are better apart, while maintaining a strong mutually beneficial relationship.

Edited

I voted remain but think the price to rejoin will be high eg the currency.

SoBoredOfSelfDoubtHowToGetOut · 01/10/2026 15:24

Absolutely. Unity in the face of Russia and Trump.

We need to ally ourselves very closely with our friends.

And yes to a European army. And the Euro.

There are lots of left wing posters here. But there are loads of very right wing posters as well.

Mumofoneandone · 01/10/2026 15:25

Brexit has happened. We need to move on from it.
Burnham is using this to distract from everything else that he needs to deal with. He also said to the people of Makerfield (Leaver area) that he wouldn't rejoin the EU. Now he's saying the complete opposite.
Total snake.....

sohard · 01/10/2026 15:26

I voted remain and I still think it was a colossal mistake, but I don’t think I’d vote to rejoin with the way the EU is currently and our terms would not be as good.

Holsareovertooquickly22929eee · 01/10/2026 14:24

Yes 1000000%

Yes a million percent!!!

dizzydizzydizzy · 01/10/2026 15:27

Yes! If I had to write a list of the 10 worst decisions this country has made, Brexit would probably be number 1.

Brexit has weakened our economy and, very ironically, i suspect it has made controlling illegal
immigration more difficult due to the fact that our links to EU systems are weaker or non-existent.

I feel sad for my young adult DCs that they have not had the opportunities that I had (and made the most offer) to live and work in the EU.

Instructions · 01/10/2026 15:28

Yes, I would vote to rejoin

My 17 year old would vote to rejoin as would the vast majority of his friends, who remain angry with the older adults who took their European citizenship away from them

Hellohelga · 01/10/2026 15:28

Lottapianos · 01/10/2026 14:41

A huge yes from me. I think Burnham has an almighty task on his hands to sell it to the majority of the British public though

He could do another referendum and take it from there. If it votes the same way as MN we are in.

Newbutoldfather · 01/10/2026 15:28

Rejoining the common market is economics.

Rejoining the EU wholesale is politics.

What do those who want to rejoin think it would add over rejoining the single market? With the latter you get all the trade benefits and freedom of movement.

Some do want all the unification of legal system, military etc that full membership entails. I don’t get the impression this part is overwhelmingly desired though.

Munchie1965 · 01/10/2026 15:29

I would rather that it was in a parties manifesto to re join and if they win the GE then they just take us in.

No more referendums!

Utahthecat · 01/10/2026 15:30

The EU had to waste an enormous amount of time, money and energy dealing with Brexit and with the bad faith negotiations that came out of it. Over the last ten years it has become clear that a majority of British people feel no real connection to Europe with mainly selfish reasons for wanting in. Many of us are still pissed off at the way GB treated NI, including lots of remainers who were happy to throw NI under the bus.

It has been a lot easier for Brussels to get consensus around important issues without the UK and it's not very clear what the bonus would be in having the UK back. The only thing that is a bit of a pain is the difficulty in studying or working in the UK - but given how ridiculously expensive 3rd level is in the UK compared with the EU, it's not that big a deal. In terms of defence, the UK is far too embedded with the US and the EU focus is on building self-sufficiency. The UK is an important ally but this doesn't have to be done on an EU basis.

We in the EU will be better off with the UK having to follow our rules on trade and negotiate as the weaker partner. Plus, the figures haven't moved sufficiently. If there was say a two thirds majority to join (and accept the Euro) and no risk of your changing your mind in another 10 years maybe but I just don't think the desire is that deep. As an EU citizen if I was asked if I wanted the UK to rejoin I'd probably vote no.

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2026 15:30

I am a very strong remainder.

However I remain unconvinced that rejoining would be a good idea as our terms are likely to be completely different. The world has changed a lot and we need to be sure we are making the right decision in very different circumstances.

I would not say a blind rejoin in this situation. Because that's stupidity and fucking naive. You wouldn't sign a major job or employment contract without this information so why would you say "yes I'll rejoin!" ?? You would have to be insane to say a definite yes (or indeed no).

Basically you need to actually give me the terms and conditions and make a case for rejoining first because I'm not an idiot.

THEN I'll make a decision.

Cadeaukatze · 01/10/2026 15:31

I would 100% vote to rejoin the EU - but I think another referendum is a bad idea.

If a future government thinks we should rejoin then they should have the courage of their convictions and do it. There should never have been a referendum in the first place, or at least not such a binary question with no plans for what to do if the outcome was to leave.

Edited: all this seems to assume the EU would have the UK back. I don't think they would if Reform were still in the picture.

Donostiera · 01/10/2026 15:31

Yes!

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2026 15:32

And another referendum in this political climate is the very definition of lunacy tbh.
