Would you vote to re-join the EU in another referendum?

Simple question. If there is another referendum to re-join the EU, will you be voting to re-join?

This isn't to have a go at anyone who supported Brexit, or who supported Remain, it's just a quick straw poll. Thank you. Smile

If anyone is wondering, (or cares!) I think I will vote to re-join. (I won't say at this point what I voted for last time...)

Yes 1000000%

AgnesMcDoo · 01/10/2026 14:25

Mostly because I want freedom of movement.

Movingsomeplantsabout · 01/10/2026 14:26

Hard yes from me. We are stronger together and we need that strength now more than ever

I voted undecided as it would depend on the terms. I wouldn’t want to rejoin if we had to rejoin the Euro which, in theory, article 49 would compel us to do when we met the conditions.

OTOH, I would definitely vote yes to rejoin the single market.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 01/10/2026 14:27

Yes! I would crawl over hot coals to vote to rejoin.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/10/2026 14:27

Hard yes.

But what I want more than anything is for the government to crack down on bot farms and foreign interference. It fuels division and misinformation.

Newbutoldfather · 01/10/2026 14:29

I am not sure a MN poll will tell you much, though.

It is mostly a well off urban, well educated demographic, and will be even more so merely by clicking on this thread.

I am not sure it will tell us much about the views of the red wall seats which are marginal Labour/Reform.

Bikenutz · 01/10/2026 14:30

Definitely.

hellsbells99 · 01/10/2026 14:31

No! As a PP has pointed out, we would have to adopt the Euro.
yes, I would like us to be part of the single market.

QueenOfHiraeth · 01/10/2026 14:37

The Europe of today is very different to the Europe we left. They are struggling economically at least as much as we are and there's more than one country with right wing parties gaining significant powers
I can't see they'd offer us a reasonable deal to rejoin anyway but am concerned people would vote to join based on an EU that no longer exists

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/10/2026 14:39

Yes.

Lottapianos · 01/10/2026 14:41

A huge yes from me. I think Burnham has an almighty task on his hands to sell it to the majority of the British public though

TaraRhu · 01/10/2026 14:44

yes, but I'd just put it in a manifesto that we would rejoin and forget the whole sorry mess. We either rejoin and just get all the benifits back - including highly qualified workers- or we go hardcore and de regulate / privatise it all as that's the only way the 'Brexit' dream can be reached. No pesky taxes, nhs, benifits just hardcore profit and money!

Topseyt123 · 01/10/2026 14:44

Absolutely yes. I wanted to remain and retain things like freedom of movement, plus access to the customs union and the single market.

If we lose the pound in favour of the Euro (not inevitable, but likely) then so be it. It will be the fault of the dickheads who voted for the huge act of self harm that was Brexshit.

P00hsticks · 01/10/2026 14:45

a) There won't be a referendum and
b) THe EU won't have us back with the deal that we left.

The best we can hope for is to strengthen ties with the EU - perhaps the sort of 'associate membership' that they are talknig about offering Canada

PurpleLovecats · 01/10/2026 14:45

Yes but I voted remain in the first place!

Newbutoldfather · 01/10/2026 14:46

I think being a member of the single market is a bit of a no brainer.

The EU, not so much.

The Euro is still like a dormant volcano. There is still enormous structural instability within it, with countries unable to unilaterally print Euros and the ECN still holding 3
EUR 3.4 trillion of bonds bought as part of QE and Covid.

France is having a mini bond crisis right now, with yields approaching 5% and above Italy’s. This would become our problem if we joined the Euro. I don’t think we want it.

MummyOre · 01/10/2026 14:47

I never voted to leave- absolutely couldn't believe the result of the referendum in 2016.

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · 01/10/2026 14:51

Hard to say. It would depend on the terms. I was definitely a remainer but I wouldn't want to go into the Euro.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 01/10/2026 14:52

Yes of course. But I don't think we should have ever left.

Tbh, I actually think it is unlikely that we will rejoin, but I anticipate that we'll end up with some sort of associate member/single market membership option.

GasPanic · 01/10/2026 14:55

No.

The EU doesn't have much to offer us economically.

The EU itself is in trouble and the core economic growth is stagnant. They are starting to consider more and more protectionist methods to protect their markets.

We are now exploring our agreements with other countries and they will begin to benefit us in the future. Our growth is currently better than the core, and Project Fear has nowhere near come to pass.

For security we still have NATO, our partnerships with the US and Australia, and our military alliances with Norway.

In order to rejoin the EU will make the terms very expensive. Probably joining the EZ, contributing more to the CAP etc which would not be good value for us.

Finally if the EU is to survive, it needs to Federalise. It does this by having strong members that want that process to happen. The UK isn't interested in greater Federalisation, and the sniping from the sidelines position that it took throughout the 00's would just be a barrier to Federalisation and not help it.

The UK and Europe are better apart, while maintaining a strong mutually beneficial relationship.

Echobelly · 01/10/2026 15:00

It's a yes from me. I voted Remain anyway but I think there's a strong cases now that we no longer have the US as a reliable ally so we really need Europe. The right wing press would scream 'Betrayal!' but I think there's a very sound argument that we are facing a profound global shift that no one foresaw at the time of the vote. And However much it may cost, it's going to be less than the money we are haemorrhaging right every month not being a part of it. The November midterms and Trump's response will confirm, I suspect, whether there's any chance of America becoming an ally/not a flaming dumpster fire again in the foreseeable and my money's on the answer being 'nope'.

Imperfect as it is, the UK and the EU need one another more than ever.

You are right.

MN attracting that demographic, even more so 10+ years ago than now, was what led to it being a complete echo chamber regarding Brexit and the result coming as an enormous shock to many (myself included).

Edited to add - I would vote to rejoin without hesitation.

Ohitsatiara · 01/10/2026 15:09

I would vote to rejoin for the freedom of movement, it probably won't affect me but means my grandchildren would have the opportunity to live and work in Europe as did I (I didn't but that's not the point, I could have) and to a certain point my children.

If I win the lottery it would also mean I could tour for longer than 90 days in our motorhome. At the time we voted on Brexit I was always very honest and said it was about freedom of movement for me.

TemperanceWest · 01/10/2026 15:14

Yes I would. Young people have had so much opportunity snatched away from them.
