I’ve got a month to lose a stone

Going on holiday in one month and need to be able to fit into my bathers! Don’t have time to mess about any more so need to be properly committed to diet and exercise just for one month. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to try to stick to chicken and fish with green vegetables or salad. Trying to tell myself it’ll be unadventurous but it’s only a month.

Good luck OP!

Arlanymor · 01/10/2026 09:57

That's really unhealthy. Just buy a larger swimsuit.

Chicken, fish and veg and veg doesn't sound "unhealthy" to me.

Which part of it is unhealthy?

5’7. I’m too frightened to go on the scales but I reckon about 11 stone. I’m basing that on how my clothes are fitting.

I wouldn’t do that OP. Going on a crash diet and then making up for it on holiday. This is a standard recipe for putting on quite a bit more than you lose.

ruffler45 · 01/10/2026 10:28

As 1 pound of body fat is supposed to be equivalent to 3500 calories, so for half a pound a day you will have to reduce your daily calorie intake by approx 1700 a day.

Does not sound like a very good idea medically

This is a myth.

As long as I lose for the holiday I’m not bothered about what happens on it.

Walk daily - Get a walking pad - ( hour in the morning and hour in the evening )
Cut the carbs/ up the protein
start intermittent fasting / don’t eat until 3pm

FancyKitten · 01/10/2026 11:02

It doesn’t sound unhealthy at all.
Carrying extra fat is hard work…

greentrailingivy · 01/10/2026 11:04

Ha! At least you have a month, I want to loose that by next Saturday 😂

Thank you! I love walking. I’m going to try and do at least 10 miles four days a week and a couple of runs a week, but I much prefer walking to running.

I often go till the afternoon without eating, but carbs are my downfall. Particularly wine and white bread!

😂 I bet you could get halfway there! Or you could chop off a limb?

So you lose it at a sensible rate. Honestly it’s not rocket science.

MeridaBrave · 01/10/2026 11:09

Make sure you lift weights or your lose muscle as well which won’t help your beach body. Need to lift heavy weights so body knows it’s the fat that’s not needed. Chicken is good but need 120g protein a day.

Lifesd · 01/10/2026 11:09

There was a really good thread ages ago about a woman who was willing to try all and everything to lose a stone in a week - some cracking ideas on that one 😂

BoaAlba · 01/10/2026 11:15

Losing a stone in a month is unhealthy and not sustainable. It would mean losing muscle mass which is then replaced with fat as weight is regained. Just Google for details.

Half that is generally recommended for sustainable weight loss and you’re doing the right thing with exercise alongside changing what you eat. Doing resistance/weight bearing exercises alongside cardio will help maintain muscle mass. There’s loads of tasty plant-based meals with lots of variety so that you don’t actually need to be bored of what you’re eating. Cutting out alcohol and soft drinks if you drink them (other than water, tea and coffee) can also make a big difference.

Good luck - and hopefully you enjoy aspects that you might want to continue!

redskyAtNigh · 01/10/2026 11:28

Trying to lose a stone in a month when you are only 11 stone to start with (i.e not extremely overweight) is probably not achievable in a sensible way.

If the goal is to fit into your swimsuit, then you are focussing on the wrong thing anyway - you might lose weight and it still not fit.

This. ^ How can you possibly think for one second @Cotsworlds that losing a STONE in a month is a good idea? Confused

If you just starve yourself, to try and lose a stone in a month/4 weeks, you will make yourself ill and faint, and will just lose (mostly) water/fluids. You will not look any thinner. Not in 4 weeks. You need to lose body fat to look thinner.

I lost 10 pounds in 3-4 days after a very bad sickness and diarrhoea bug earlier in the year, and my waist/hips/bust measurements were exactly the same after the 10 pound weight loss, because I hadn't lost any fat! I looked the same, I just had an empty bowel, and an empty stomach!

You're deluded if you think that starving yourself to lose a stone in around 4 weeks is going to make you look thinner, or fit into a smaller clothes size.

You must have known before today that you were going on holiday at the end of October. Why are you only dealing with this now?

greentrailingivy · 01/10/2026 11:35

@Cotsworldsif white bread is your downfall, try Warburtons Danish loaf, it’s only 63 calories a slice and tastes good!

TeenLifeMum · 01/10/2026 11:48

I’d go for it but reset expectations at losing 2lbs a week as a more realistic and healthy rate.

PatchNotes · 01/10/2026 12:03

You can’t lose 14lb in a month unless you’re doing a lot of cardio and eating next to nothing. The recommended healthy weight loss is around 1lb a week, but you can lose up to 2.5lb a week if you are very strict and are willing to accept a few mental and physical side effects. You definitely can’t have bread or wine.

I am a former body builder so I have done severe cuts like this. I ate only vegetables and spent 3 hours a day in the gym in order to get stage ready. You feel dizzy every time you stand up and you start eyeing up the vegetable peelings in the compost bin thinking they’d make a delicious snack. I don’t mind it too much, but it’s not for everybody. But even if you’re losing 2.5lb a week that’s still only 10lb in a month.
