I’ve got a month to lose a stone

Going on holiday in one month and need to be able to fit into my bathers! Don’t have time to mess about any more so need to be properly committed to diet and exercise just for one month. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to try to stick to chicken and fish with green vegetables or salad. Trying to tell myself it’ll be unadventurous but it’s only a month.

Thank you! I love walking. I’m going to try and do at least 10 miles four days a week and a couple of runs a week, but I much prefer walking to running.

I often go till the afternoon without eating, but carbs are my downfall. Particularly wine and white bread!

Not eating until the afternoon is probably 90% of the reason for that - you're too hungry.

It’s definitely caused by the wine. Nothing better than a good sandwich when you’re feeling the effects of wine.

You can’t lose 14lb in a month unless you’re doing a lot of cardio and eating next to nothing. The recommended healthy weight loss is around 1lb a week, but you can lose up to 2.5lb a week if you are very strict and are willing to accept a few mental and physical side effects. You definitely can’t have bread or wine.

I am a former body builder so I have done severe cuts like this. I ate only vegetables and spent 3 hours a day in the gym in order to get stage ready. You feel dizzy every time you stand up and you start eyeing up the vegetable peelings in the compost bin thinking they’d make a delicious snack. I don’t mind it too much, but it’s not for everybody. But even if you’re losing 2.5lb a week that’s still only 10lb in a month.

I lost 7lbs before I went on hol but put on 4 lbs whilst there not due to unhealthy eating but all the cocktails so remember it’s the drinks that can put the weight back on. TBH I’d rather enjoy my hol than watching what I’m eating and drinking and remember OP nobody cares what you look like on hol just enjoy yourself. Your weight with your height doesn’t sound overly overweight tbh but to answer your question I just cut out all snacks beforehand (I never eat breakfast in week anyway usually have brunch at weekends around 11.30) and had plenty of chicken and veg, salmon rice broccoli and Hallumi salads

It’s not overweight and I have no intention of not enjoying myself whilst I’m on the holiday.

Great!

I’ll check in now. Had a kefir yoghurt, prawns and eggs for lunch, and I’m going to make a chicken salad after Traitors. Went for an hour’s walk after work.

Please let us know on day 14 how that consistency is going….

@JT1999 thanks so much for the detailed explanation. This is very helpful, have taken notes and will do a mixture of free weights (at home) and gym equipment. I am trying to lose weight, however with PCOS it is such a pain to shift anything, and I am quite an active person generally and walk over an hour a day. I'm on a bit of fatness streak atm, hopefully I lose some weight too 😅😬.

If you have any tips for losing weight with PCOS please share 🙏

Sorry I don't have any specific experience relating to PCOS. I am sure all the same advice applies - strength training, steps, plenty of protein from a whole foods diet.

I can't stress enough that strength training should be building up to 10/10 effort level, you want to be pushing to failure. Progressively overloading your muscles. That is what triggers muscle growth and helps you build not just a slimmer body but a more capable body and one that will burn through calories even on your rest days. Just lifting a few easy weights is better than nothing but you're leaving a lot of potential benefits on the table.

I often hear "I don't want to look too muscular" as a reason why people shouldn't train like this and my reply to that is "don't worry, you won't". When you look "too muscular" under the right lighting, freshly pumped and flexing, that's when you'll look your absolute best in normal lighting, normal clothes, not flexing.
