I’ve got a month to lose a stone

Going on holiday in one month and need to be able to fit into my bathers! Don’t have time to mess about any more so need to be properly committed to diet and exercise just for one month. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to try to stick to chicken and fish with green vegetables or salad. Trying to tell myself it’ll be unadventurous but it’s only a month.

Several people on here have tried to advise you what a bad idea this is. You can feel free to ignore them just as I can feel free to express concern.
As I said before, you do you. My post
mentioning SW and the like was in direct
response to someone else who quoted me.

Not sure why you’ve got an issue with me replying to someone.

No one can tell me what great disaster is going to befall me after a month of low calorie eating though. Other than some vague suggestions that I’ll end up gaining weight again.

You are not concerned about me at all. You just want to criticise.

You obviously won't drop down dead. You'll lose muscle mass, lower your BMR, and put the weight back on. Next time it'll be harder to crash off, and more muscle mass will be lost. Rinse and repeat.

If you want to improve your body composition and be leaner, eat in a small calorie deficit with a focus on protein, fibre and a good array of nutriets. Cardio for fat loss and weights for muscle preservation.

I’m happy to take the risk. It’s a month and I will strive reset the balance on my holidays.

Yeah it was a great job, I loved it. It doesn't pay well but such is life, I've never been money oriented. I'd love to get back to it when the little one is a bit older, but I'd need to get myself back into top form first. Yeah the change in mentality is noticeable too, not everyone but a lot of people all of a sudden love looking in the mirror when they're curling! I love to see that confidence. I was never overweight, borderline underweight really, late bloomer and even then my body only seemed to put in a token effort. Didn't like looking in the mirror when I was a teen, was jealous of my friends when they got curves. I got my body confidence once I started lifting, seeing the changes week by week was really motivational.

I love this!!! Body Con has never been my strong suit, my aforementioned friend was always taller, slimmer, but after two sections & an asshole husband (now ex) she was broken, the confidence she regained from whatever program that the lads in the most basic gym in an industrial estate devised for her, so not intimidating like the big flash ones, where everyone looks "beach bod ready!" were unbelievably helpful to say the least

it's nearly like a public service! I think I might look into lifting in the coming weeks, you both have inspired me!

Thanks!

I managed this once. I combined my diet with exercise… uphill treadmill to the tune of 1-2 hour 4 days a week. It was torturous but it worked.

I lost 1st in 2 weeks a few years back.
Campylobactor worked a treat.......😬😬

OP I weighed a similar amount as you and took 3 months to lose a stone with weight loss drugs, during which my appetite disappeared completely for the most part. I am also nearly 2 decades younger than you which I assume helps with weight loss. I think 1 stone in 1 month is completely unrealistic. I would aim for something more realistic - half a stone might be doable.

You are a teenager and had to take weight loss drugs to lose a stone over the course of three months? Doesn’t sound like they’re working well, if at all. If you’re in your teens, barely eating and only losing weight 5lb a month I’d speak to your GP.

Misread one of your posts - thought you were age 57 not 5 foot 7. I am early 40s. Anyway my comment still stands minus the age comment. Weight loss drugs aren't supposed to make you drop large amounts of weight overnight.

I’m in my 30s. It’s great that the weight loss drugs are working for you. I’m not keen on taking them whilst not actually being overweight because I don’t like the idea of injections. Happier to just put myself through a bit of hunger pain for a month.

Glad you know me and my intentions so well considering you’re an absolute stranger.
You’re completely wrong - I am concerned - but I do wish you well.

NancyThompson · 02/10/2026 18:14

Noro? That should crash it right off.

CheerfulYank · 02/10/2026 18:15

I’ll join you! I’m about the same height but weight quite a bit more 🤣

StasisMom · 02/10/2026 18:39

travailtotravel · 02/10/2026 09:20

PS I lost heaps by doing a 90 day 800 cal thing (diabetesT2 reversal) it was so fucking miserable. Min 1200 and "earn" some by exercise is how I have to do it now. Still miserable but from a 22 to a 14.

Bloody hell - well done!! Rooting for you @Cotsworlds and might join you. I don’t drink but I over carb for sure. I actually lost 11lb on a month of mountain and it highly helped me as I eat much less sugar now and another positive, is that my face isn’t as red as it was. I know you don’t want to do WLI but just mentioning. I’m a touch taller and heavier than you. And I also agree - she’s aiming for a healthy month, less booze and fewer carbs and am amazed at the criticism!

This is covered in the Michael Moseley book and it’s not too much of a concern I suppose unless yoyoing

I’m on the last stretch of weight loss and could do with a boost, I have hugely changed my habits but still need a boost!

There are a few scare mongers on this thread, most rational people have given some great advice, we've all done crazy "drop 7lbs in a week" diets.. I have an ED & I would never recommend some of the crazy things I've done over the years but steamed fish, veg & maybe cut down on alcohol for a period of time & exercise is pretty healthy as well as drinking water, water, water!!

Best of luck @Cotsworlds ✊

Pigs eat chicken and veg? I had no idea.

Op that is a diet name, why be rude, you have been snappy for no reason.

If you don’t plan on carrying it on after the holiday you’ll regain it all and more. Then your swim suit will no longer fit next year?
why not buy a new swim suit, and change your eating habits long term.
it’s taken me a year to lose the last stone of my weight, it’s been painfully slow it would never have come off in a month and at times I was hungry and miserable

I’ll check in now. Had a kefir yoghurt, prawns and eggs for lunch, and I’m going to make a chicken salad after Traitors. Went for an hour’s walk after work.

I didn’t think you could get weight loss medication unless you were obese. I didn’t realise I was behind the times. I really don’t fancy them though.

I can’t keep up eating chicken salad, no carbs, and under 1000 calories a day for the rest of my life! It’s a month for quick results.

Free weights are best but you need to know what you're doing. Assisted weights machines are not quite as good (you don't build control) but for someone who really just wants to lose fat without losing muscle, they are good enough. You really should lift a weight which is heavy enough that you begin to fail at 8-10 reps, then you drop one weight increment and repeat. It should be explosive in the first phase of the movement (the lifting/pulling/pushing, whatever it is you're doing), then slowly resist the weight on the way down for as long as you can. Time under tension matters. The goal is to prompt the muscle to grow, gentle weights don't do this to anything like the same degree.

Treadmill, cross trainer, rowing machine etc are not going to do what you're looking for. If you get out of breath before your arms/legs are shaking with effort, its cardio not weights. Cardio is good for many reasons but in a fat loss phase when you are eating below maintenance calories, its important that your muscles get worked to their limits otherwise the body will go looking for unused muscle to break down for energy. The end result is you lose muscle and fat together, your maintenance calorie requirement becomes lower and it is much easier to re-gain weight after.

@JT1999 thanks so much for the detailed explanation. This is very helpful, have taken notes and will do a mixture of free weights (at home) and gym equipment. I am trying to lose weight, however with PCOS it is such a pain to shift anything, and I am quite an active person generally and walk over an hour a day. I'm on a bit of fatness streak atm, hopefully I lose some weight too 😅😬.

If you have any tips for losing weight with PCOS please share 🙏
