I’ve got a month to lose a stone

Going on holiday in one month and need to be able to fit into my bathers! Don’t have time to mess about any more so need to be properly committed to diet and exercise just for one month. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to try to stick to chicken and fish with green vegetables or salad. Trying to tell myself it’ll be unadventurous but it’s only a month.

11 stone at 5ft 7 is a normal healthy weight and so it's going to be hard to lose so much weight that quickly. That being said, there have been a few people doing something called a '75 hard' on instagram and the results are impressive. It involves 2x 45 minute work outs a day, drinking 3 litres of water, minimum 10k steps per day and a high protein, no alcohol diet. Don't think I could do it, but looks pretty effective if you're committed enough. Good luck!

I can tell by the fit of my clothes.

I don’t think malnutrition will kick in from eating chicken, fish and veg for a month.

Make sure you lift weights or your lose muscle as well which won’t help your beach body. Need to lift heavy weights so body knows it’s the fat that’s not needed. Chicken is good but need 120g protein a day.

I’m going to do the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. Got my dumbbells ready to go.

There was a really good thread ages ago about a woman who was willing to try all and everything to lose a stone in a week - some cracking ideas on that one 😂

A week! Imagine what I could achieve in a month 😅.

Losing a stone in a month is unhealthy and not sustainable. It would mean losing muscle mass which is then replaced with fat as weight is regained. Just Google for details.

Half that is generally recommended for sustainable weight loss and you’re doing the right thing with exercise alongside changing what you eat. Doing resistance/weight bearing exercises alongside cardio will help maintain muscle mass. There’s loads of tasty plant-based meals with lots of variety so that you don’t actually need to be bored of what you’re eating. Cutting out alcohol and soft drinks if you drink them (other than water, tea and coffee) can also make a big difference.

Good luck - and hopefully you enjoy aspects that you might want to continue!

I don’t want to sustain it. Full focus is only on the holiday.

This. ^ How can you possibly think for one second @Cotsworlds that losing a STONE in a month is a good idea? Confused

If you just starve yourself, to try and lose a stone in a month/4 weeks, you will make yourself ill and faint, and will just lose (mostly) water/fluids. You will not look any thinner. Not in 4 weeks. You need to lose body fat to look thinner.

I lost 10 pounds in 3-4 days after a very bad sickness and diarrhoea bug earlier in the year, and my waist/hips/bust measurements were exactly the same after the 10 pound weight loss, because I hadn't lost any fat! I looked the same, I just had an empty bowel, and an empty stomach!

You're deluded if you think that starving yourself to lose a stone in around 4 weeks is going to make you look thinner, or fit into a smaller clothes size.

You must have known before today that you were going on holiday at the end of October. Why are you only dealing with this now?

Because I’ve been enjoying copious amounts of cheese and wine and putting it off.

You also can absolutely tell when a person quickly loses weight.

My GP told me I could lose a stone in 4 weeks if I wanted to with the right diet and exercise.

@Cotsworldsif white bread is your downfall, try Warburtons Danish loaf, it’s only 63 calories a slice and tastes good!

Thank you. I try and eat Jason’s but just cannot resist the blue Warburtons. It is now banned from the house until November.

I reckon I could do this. Except for the odd night out with wine.

I wouldn’t do that OP. Going on a crash diet and then making up for it on holiday. This is a standard recipe for putting on quite a bit more than you lose.

This.

Enjoy your holiday and take more care of your diet, exercise and calorie intake when you get back, and lose that stone (plus a bit!) before Christmas

Mysticguru · 01/10/2026 12:42

1 x fully loaded nutritional meal per day at the same time and drink 2 - 2.5 litres water per day. Eat at the same time. Basically a 22:2 IF. Your body will attack visceral fat immediately. So anything in the liver and stomach cavity will be targeted first.

TwoTigers · 01/10/2026 12:43

It wouldn't be healthy to crash diet. What would be good is to make healthier choices, ie grilling instead of frying, low fat/healthy proteins like chicken, salmon, other fish, cottage cheese, filling out your plate with veggies, eating a yogurt/piece of fruit instead of a cake. If you fancy wine, look for a low calorie allternative, ie a cup of coffee, the odd diet coke or how calorie squash and soda. Put a little less on your plate. Increase exercise to increase calorie deficit and also tone.

between the holiday and Christmas is barely longer than now and the holiday. I’m more bothered about the holiday.

To be honest I mostly do this anyway. Very rarely have any meat other than chicken and fish, eat loads of vegetables, never fry things, don’t like cake and rarely drink pop.

Its wine and white bread that cause the problem, and I love a bag of Haribo. I rarely have rice or pasta but do eat a lot of potato. I am cutting carbs out.

Best if you focus on protein and fibre, OP. Fast 800 type meals are probably your best bet.

Aluna · 01/10/2026 12:55

If you were really serious about losing weight you wouldn’t have left it until a month before - setting yourself up to fail. You won’t keep it off if you don’t change your habits long term.

Aim for a pound or 2 per week. If you managed to lose 1/4 - 1/2 stone in a month that would still be a big win.

My priority is losing it before November. I’ll worry about keeping it off after that!

So yes, you could cut out bread, rice and pasta. But I'd consider having pulses - chickpeas, lentils and beans as they will help you feel full. And actually baby potatoes in their skins you can have quite a lot for not many calories (as long as you don't slather the butter too much) and they have a fair amount of fibre and are filling. I wouldn't go too far down the no carb route basically.

That's really unhealthy. Just buy a larger swimsuit.

I agree.

Cotsworlds · 01/10/2026 10:55

This is a myth.

Not according to my nutritionist…. Who has qualifications.
Where does it say it has been proven to be incorrect please?

autumnalmelancholy · 01/10/2026 13:04

So many excuses on this thread… of course a stone in a month isn’t unhealthy if you eat chicken. And veg. Far healthier than a month on some horrible shakes….
Good luck OP.

BreezyClouds · 01/10/2026 13:05

I wish you strength OP. I'm sure you can deflate a little, I find I lose a lot of water when I go on a clean diet like you're describing.

I'd also buy a larger swimsuit, it'll still fit you at a smaller size and means you've got something if your loss doesn't pan out.

After the hol you can figure out how to get to and maintain your ideal weight.

Happychildless · 01/10/2026 13:07

This little piggy diet.
