I’ve got a month to lose a stone

Cotsworlds · 01/10/2026 09:51

Going on holiday in one month and need to be able to fit into my bathers! Don’t have time to mess about any more so need to be properly committed to diet and exercise just for one month. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to try to stick to chicken and fish with green vegetables or salad. Trying to tell myself it’ll be unadventurous but it’s only a month.

I lost 14lbs in a month on wegovy tablets. But you need to be a certain bmi to be prescribed them.

Frrrout · 01/10/2026 14:38

I’m fascinated as to who you’re holidaying with! Only because my lazy fat arse sometimes contemplates crash diets, but then I remind myself

  1. I’m holidaying with someone who sees me naked in all my glory the rest of the year anyway so no surprises for him
  2. None of the holidaymakers there will remember who I am minutes after seeing me so doesn’t matter what they think anyway
Perhaps if I was going on holiday with a new partner I’d be motivated to punish myself for it…but probably not

5’7. I’m too frightened to go on the scales but I reckon about 11 stone. I’m basing that on how my clothes are fitting.

That's a healthy weight

So what I take from this is that the 500 a day deficit is not an exact science and is not the same for everyone which makes sense when you consider that some people will overestimate their activity rate so their maintenance calories aren’t accurate and also that as you lose weight you need to eat fewer calories to maintain that weight so need to reduce your daily intake to continue to lose. It doesn’t dismiss the basic premise though.

Okay, well whatever. I just want the thread for a bit of accountability.

Hi OP
I recently lost a stone in just over a month. I was 11 stone 7 and I’m 5’6. It’s not for everyone but I joined slimming world. My current weight is 10st 6. I eat lots of veg and chicken and go to the gym 3 times a week

Thank you! It can be done then. I’ve got no excuse.

As opposed to glugging wine and eating bread then asking about a last minute diet that you will probably struggle with/have limited results and be disappointed when you get on holiday.

I’m not asking about it. I’m doing it. Once my clothes begin to feel tight I diet, I don’t buy larger clothes. This time there needs to be a swift loss for maximum holiday comfort.

My DP, but who knows if there’ll better options when I’m there?

Yeah but it all goes to my stomach and I feel flabby.

Who gives a fuck? Can’t turn back time. And I was enjoying myself.

Same goes for your holiday? Just buy a bigger bikini, enjoy yourself. If you feel strongly about weight loss long term find something more sustainable.

Accountability for what though? We’re all only accountable for ourselves, we can’t look to others to provide it.
I genuinely believe that what you’re planning is unhealthy and bad for you and I hope you don’t try to do this.
Would it be the end of the world to get a bigger cossie and to try and lose fat slowly and safely?

There is something I can do about the holiday though because it’s a month away. I will enjoy myself.

Self accountability.

The bather comment was, I thought very obviously, an exaggeration. I can get into them, but I want my stomach to look flatter. I want it to look flatter in the dresses I’ll be wearing too.

Then I’m hoping the lose a stone in a month comment is also an exaggeration.

It’s not! I very much hope I can do it. You don’t have to do I’m not sure why it bothers you.

It bothers me because it’s unhealthy and I hate to think that women will take such a drastic course of action for a flatter stomach but you do you I suppose.

Congratulations on your medical degree - an alumni of Clown College.

Are you always so rude? Strangely others can have an opinion, and in this case mine is based on a whole career.

Me too! Feeling positive. So far I’ve had two glasses of water. Finished work so I’m going to go for a walk and have a chicken Caesar salad tonight. Should do Jillian Michaels’ 39 day shred today too I’m trying to talk myself out of that already.

It’s not healthy to carry weight on your stomach either. A month of eating chicken, fish and veg isn’t going to have a dramatic health side effect.

People are so strange with weight loss. You’d think women were dropping down dead in the street due to a few weeks on a low calorie diet.

@Cotsworlds I lost 2 Stone in just over two months by doing intermittent fasting. I had my first meal at 10 am. I increased my protein and my fibre and slightly decreased my carbs and cals. I would then have a snack if I got hungry, but if not I will just have my main meal laying around 5:30 and not eat after 6 o’clock. I did a little bit of extra walking throughout the week too, but nothing crazy. I still eat this way and it works really well for me. I’ve had to increase my calories slightly to maintain where I am now.

Good luck with the healthy diet.

I've only ever been on a diet once in my life and lost 3kg in 6 days so stopped dieting as I was worried it was too fast. I only wanted to lose 5kg over a month to get rid of my new lockdown curves.

Found a protein shake powder which is soya based in the big chain Chemist. Not one of the mass marketed icky shakes but it is widely used in Germany. It's packed with soya protein so you don't lose muscle mass and loads of vitamins and yoghurt and I never felt hungry. It is not intended to be a long term diet.

Blitz with skimmed milk and a dash of veg oil (i also added a handful of frozen blueberries) You replace 1- 3 meals a day with it depending on how quickly you want to lose weight) and eat just eat really healthily (I'm talking chicken and veggies here 😋 ) How many scoops you use and how long you use it for depends on your weight and how long you want to be on a diet. Reintroduce healthy meals gradually while using it.

Worked for me and I felt well the whole time not tired or hungry although I did miss the cheese and wine for those 6 days.

As in, I still do the intermittent fasting. And I still only have two protein rich fibre rich meals a day. Obviously, I have carbs too. We need those. But not as much as I used to. And I generally don’t eat too much crap.
