Is this eBay seller pricing these vintage shoes unrealistically?

This eBay seller is having a laugh, surely?

they're awful!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/10/2026 11:06

But THESE
are very nice.

Margaritaaahhh · 01/10/2026 11:12

This is a kink thing. I have a friend who sells manky old slippers on eBay for £100+. Absolutely disgusting, falling to bits. She buys cheap ones from Primark (fluffy and pale colours, to better show the muck) and wears them to do garden stuff, gets them really dirty and stained and flogs them. She photographs them while she's wearing them so there are plenty of foot pictures for the fetishists to 'enjoy' too. The seller here has done the same.

Perhaps there's a particular kink for 1980s auntie at a wedding dancing to Black Lace while pissed on sweet sherry shoes? If there is that's a lot to unpack.

SeedsOfReason · 30/09/2026 16:37

Are you sure she isn't aiming at the 'worn shoes' (i.e. kink) market - which tends to go along the lines of, the mankier and grubbier the shoes, the higher the price?

They are certainly manky, although the seller has had a bit of an attempt to hide the insides.
(But not really…) So I do wonder if they are indeed aimed at the perv market because she could easily have bought new insoles!

I was certain it was an error. But the rest of her "true vintage" items are listed at ridiculous prices too - look at this monstrosity! Apparently all owned by a relative with a "passion for fashion" ...?!!!!

They're all 80s - & the shittier end of 80s fashion too! I remember Dolcis ... & as for this cardigan at £600, it's a cheap brand that was tacky then & still is IMO. The kind of thing that might have been worn by Dollar or Bucks Fizz on a day off ...

So odd that it's the very same price as the shoes

TheLarch · 01/10/2026 12:20

This thread has reminded me why I hate looking at vintage shoes (side-eye to my historically massive size 7 trotters).

The 12 days of Christmas monstrosity is hilarious. 'Quality items' - ha ha - it's all plastic, pet.

Luvvlyjubbly · 01/10/2026 12:21

Hahaha I’m 62 and actually remember buying these exact monstrosities in Dolcis in the 80s to go with a pink satin skirt and jacket to go clubbing ! Oh the memories! Who in their right mind would pay that!!

StressyMcStressFace · 01/10/2026 13:01

1585 views and still no sale 🤣

MeMeMeMeOw · 01/10/2026 13:02

BobbiBiscuits · 30/09/2026 16:34

You the seller then, I take it?

Why would you think that, @BobbiBiscuits?

Itiswhysofew · 01/10/2026 15:42

1980s, I'd say. Awful then. Back in the days before footsies. A lot of sweaty, stinky
feet 🤢

Arlanymor · 30/09/2026 13:31

I wouldn't buy them for £8.50 let alone £608.50 but hey if she's chancing her arm good for her. She's got 100% ratings. People pay silly money for stuff I would give to the charity shop but there you go, we're all different. Plus many people who do bulk uploading can make errors in their pricing - only takes the slip of a finger.

Shes never sold anything for more than £10

fuschiaproudparrot · 01/10/2026 16:13

I remember Dolcis in the 1970s. Now those were shoes ! 😊

FckThisShit · 01/10/2026 16:36

Old shoes and clothes priced like this are usually being sold to fetishists.

Happyjoe · 01/10/2026 16:41

Bargain - I'll take 3!

(of course not). Vile shoes, vile state of the shoes and well, I'd not pay 6p.

omghereistrouble · 01/10/2026 17:26

i am thinking that maybe perverts have no taste 🙄
got visions of these sellers items on a man who looks like a cross between Mrs Brown and Mrs Doubtfire

DoreenCorkhill · 01/10/2026 21:59

They are early 1990s the Dolcis logo changed in early 1990s (I have a few classics kept for posterity. )No idea why they would be worth so much .
Dolcis was High St brand so hardly rare .

Momon45 · 01/10/2026 23:56

If they were donated to my charity shop I'd have chucked them in the recycling bin . Ghastly 80s tat and filthy inside too.

Meanwhile the seller of the infamous 12 days of Christmas centrepiece has upped the price from £699 to £999.

Now that's nice but I wouldn't pay more than £25.00 for it !

Wow.
I’d love to see the maker of this objet

WhereYouLeftIt · Yesterday 01:02

Hasn't eBay started suggesting the price you should put on your items? Picked by the algorithm looking at previous sales of similar items?

I can only assume some of these previous sales were pure money laundering listings, I've come across quite a few over the years.

Dolcis were always a bit naff. Saxone were next door in our town, much better.

I reckon it’s most likely a bet or something for Charlie’s Birthday- see first item for sale.

I mean, those blouses are not worth the £99.50 asked. If they are claiming JSA and has to show they have employment, or looking for it,can this be used to say they have an online vintage shop so continue to qualify? Trying to think why do people need eBay shops but not to sell anything. Unless it is criminal, ofc. Wonder if AI could decode? I bet grok would tell you!!

You could be right about the JSA requirements. The reason they brought in the minimum income floor for UC was that there were lots of 'self employed online traders' selling bits and pieces and making hardly any money but would then qualify for substantial UC top ups.

So now after an initial period, you need to be making at least NMW for a prescribed number of hours.

But people will still get around it because if your online trading business doesn't work you can then move onto 'mobile beautician' aka doing your mates and sister's nails or dog walking, cleaning etc.

All different businesses so presumably allowed separate build up periods.
