what are your thoughts on this whole debacle?

Team Macklemore!

Ed should be horrified… Ms Rachel has publicly called him out. You know it’s bad if she’s throwing shade at you!

What? That ridiculous children’s performer who has zero time for Jewish children. Her?

A quick google (not sure why I didn’t do it before) states that he didn’t perform a nazi salute.

if you can find something to suggest differently, I’m happy to be corrected.

adding inaccuracies derails the points being made.

HRTQueen · 16/09/2026 14:39

Read the room

This was not a concert for those who want political opinions when they are coming to a concert save that for concerts where you will have that

Its so tedious artists making all these statements often with dose of antisemitism but apparently they should not repress their opinions and simply can't help but express them

Yet happy to make money from companies/franchise that are Jewish owned or the creation is from a Jewish person - their integrity seems to go out of the window them

No. We should be blaming antisemites.

PantaloonMad · 16/09/2026 14:44

What are you on about, music and art has always been political

BerthaPotts · 16/09/2026 14:49

I think Ed Sheeran has come out looking the worse in all of this.

Are you saying people who are critical of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians should refuse to work with Jewish owned businesses??? Or Jewish artists???

I mean, really? What about if they themselves are Jewish?

Why are you trying to link all Jewish people with Israel’s mistreatment of the Palestinians?

Lol I’m not sure you know who ms Rachel is. She champions all children. No matter their religion, race or skin colour. Perhaps research before making false comments?

I actually agree with this. Not because I agree with Macklemore. I very definitely do not. But Ed is trying to play both sides and that's no use.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 16/09/2026 14:53

Personally I am with Ed. I don't care about your political beliefs, whatever they are. You are there to entertain. Take a leaf out of Dolly Parton's book.

ColdLittleHeart · 16/09/2026 14:54

Macklemore, the man who wrote same love?! I’m so disappointed in him.
His actions were antisemitic. He knows that and he knew there would be Jews in that audience who would feel targeted by his words. Shameful! It’s not the right way to call for peace in Palestine.

We can’t be a society that cancels people for their views though, he’s rightly been called out for it and hopefully he may reflect on why he chose division when all his songs preach unity.

1mageeditgpt · 16/09/2026 14:57

Despicable that @mnhq allowed @Dracolina to continue posting after expressing support for terrorists. Which is illegal btw.

I am saying that the artists who have expressed anti sematic views should stand by their beliefs

but they don't when it suits them and their bank account

I am not linking all Jewish people with the Israeli government but the levels of anti semitism that has been expressed in recent years and is growing as its accepted by so many and its becoming clearer and clearer that for a number of people it is not just about the Israeli government

Are they calling out the governments of Saudi or Iran or China for people who are so entrenched in their pain for those who are suffering you would think their empathy could reach others who are suffering too

Doobiesista · 16/09/2026 15:13

Dracolina · 16/09/2026 13:43

I'm not, I want to know what kind of people I potentially support and put money in the pockets of. If anything, I wish the rest of them were more clear about where they stand.

As for this case in particular...free us all from zionism, their followers and the Epstein pedophiles who run the world. Good on Macklemoore, and the rest of acts that dumped Ed Sheeran's ass.

Please clarity how you would like to 'free us all from Zionism'.

ColadhSamh · 16/09/2026 15:16

All about Macklemore and barely a mention for Kraft.

Prostitution
Abuse of women
Human trafficking
Supports murder of thousands of men, women and CHILDREN
Supports stealing of land
Supports throwing families out of their homes
Supports settlers living on stolen land and living in stolen homes
Part of a cabal who supported a Holocaust denier
Friend of Epstein, Trump and Netanyahu
Tried to bribe cops
Used Epstein recommended lawyer Goldberger
Got District Judge Rodolfo A. Ruiz to order destruction of video of Kraft getting a hnd and blw job

As for throwing the racism and anti semetic card around, abhorrent behaviour. How insulting. There are people of Jewish faith and Israeli citizens who protest regularly against the Israeli government actions in Palestine.

MajorProcrastination · 16/09/2026 15:21

If you're more butt hurt about an artist having a conscience and challenging genocide than the actual systematic destruction (i.e. murder, starvation, displacement) of human beings I think that says more about your own values and character.

I am very very proud of the Irish response. Israel and its apologists have a very conscious strategy to use the smear of anti semitism to distract people from their indefensible actions against the Palestinians . My views are not rooted in Irish history. They are rooted in reading and researching what is happening in Israel. I was also active in anti apartheid in the past. I have protested US and Chinese actions in the past also. As a state which is deemed to be democratic, which is traded with, supported with arms and finances, the state of Israel is clearly one those who support human rights should target their protests at in the current world. As South Africa was in the past. So is Israel now. But perhaps even worse in some respects.

Edited

I don't dispute your right to condemn Israel or campaign for Palestinian rights, and I haven't suggested that doing so is antisemitic. My point is that the strength of feeling around Israel in Ireland can also spill over into genuine antisemitism, and simply describing every allegation of that as a "smear" avoids confronting it.

By antisemitism I'm not talking about "Free Palestine" or criticism of Netanyahu. I'm talking about swastikas and anti-Jewish abuse, Jewish children being targeted with Holocaust references, Jews feeling unable to display a Star of David, or people recycling familiar conspiracies about Jews/Zionists controlling powerful networks. Indeed, there are examples of precisely that sort of conspiratorial rhetoric in this very thread.

It should be perfectly possible to believe Israel has committed grave wrongs against Palestinians while also recognising antisemitism when it occurs. Treating every accusation of antisemitism as merely a cynical Israeli tactic makes that distinction impossible and ultimately excuses behaviour that has nothing to do with legitimate criticism of Israel.

BoredZelda · 16/09/2026 15:26

I see this thread is full of misinformation, a lack of critical thinking and a complete inability to understand nuance.

This issue has so many shades of grey and is far too complex to reduce it to Macklemore good, Sheeran bad that is being served up in 30 second sound bites on social media.

It can, however, be distilled down.

Macklemore chooses to use his platform to speak about Palestine. He has a history of Antisemitism that goes beyond his stance on Palestine and this is why some are choosing to disassociate with him. He hasn’t, to my knowledge, been able to refute the antisemitism accusations, it seems he has taken the “Jews are bad, oh but I don’t mean the ones who are in my crowd” line on defending himself.

P!nk has long been political in her music, and never shies away from difficult topics. She is also Jewish. She is clear that the actions of the Israeli Government in Palestine are not acceptable and that the people of Palestine deserve “a future that honours their humanity and their aspirations.” In her work with UNICEF, she has seen horrors first hand. She doesn’t blame Palestinians or Israelis for the actions of their governments. She is fearful of the rise of antisemitism, much of which is dressed up by some as simply supporting Palestine. She believes her Jewish and Palestinian fans deserve to feel as safe at her concerts as everyone else. Allowing any act who is making a political statement about Palestine threatens that safety.

Ed Sheeran didn’t drop Macklemore, the tour promoters did. He is apolitical in his music so hasn’t stated any opinion on the political situation. Having support bands isn’t an endorsement of their political or personal views. To suggest he can cancel his tour “in solidarity” would A) break that apolitical stance and B) mean a whole lot of people who support his tour would be out of a job, fans would be out of pocket etc. He is standing up for what he believes in, which is, his music and his own performance is free of politics.

Nobody has “been cancelled”. All involved still have their careers.
Nobody’s “free speech” has been curtailed, nobody has been “censored”. They are free to espouse their views publicly in whatever way they want. Indeed, I barely know who Macklemore is, but I have heard all of his views on everything simply because of the number of stories about him being “censored”. Freedom of speech doesn’t come with freedom from consequences. For all involved, their views and opinions on this matter will have consequences. Macklemore has been denied a few gigs, Sheeran has been derided for his apolitical stance (the sort of stance we’ve just been lauding Dolly Parton for 🧐), and P!nk is facing yet more attacks on her character - nothing new for her, it won’t stop her doing what she thinks is right.

Nobody needs to take sides. Here are 3 people who have all expressed their sadness for the situation in Palestine, but go about things in a different way.

The current clamour for every person who has been famous for more than 5 minutes to publicly declare their views on Palestine is ridiculous. It would do nothing to change the situation and serves only to allow people to place judgement on them for their opinion. I’m all for people using their public platforms to raise awareness of issues, getting involved in politics etc. where it is actual advocacy backed up with meaningful action. Otherwise it is simply using a cause to gain notoriety.

I think we can agree. Certainly I agree with all that you're saying here. I would just say in return that we should we be able to have a conversation about Israeli wrongs that don't almost immediately reference anti semitism. Ior even that doesn't reference it at all, but leaves that to another space. However I have never once seen this happen on Mumsnet.

Ed should come out on the side of Israel, f Macklemore and all the other antisemites. Palestine can be free when it stops having a government that hates Jews.

doctorbrown · 16/09/2026 16:02

Ed Sheeran had no issue being "political" when it was Ukraine.

The statement from Ed was tone deaf.

Being silent to genocide and crimes against humanity is being complicit - don't fool yourself its anything else. This is not a political issue as he (and others on this thread) frame it - thats just convenient framing so you can make excuses for your inaction and lack of voice here. You had no qualms when it was Ukraine.

Any position not opposing genocide and speaking up about it is devoid of morality, humanity and spineless. One of the biggest privileges of being rich and influential for people like Ed is to help make positive changes in the world. When the international court of justice rules this as a genocide - but you find yourself still argue its political..disgusting.

There is NO justification for sniping children in the head. This gross conflation with the actions of Hamas and this being then acceptable is sick.

There is no Hamas in the west bank - yet see have seen decades of violence and apartheid towards the Palestinians.

To repeat, as defined by the laws and rules we have in this world - Israel is legally occupier and committing genocide. Its clear. Stop making your own biased interpretations when courts and international bodies have already defined that.
