When I first moved to the village I live in now, I loved it so much being able to walk for 2 miles and not see another person as it's a lovely rural area, so I started going for lots of lovely walks (still do actually.) Sometimes though I would see people (when walking around the village roads and not outside the village/around the woodlands/by the canal,) and this one lady who lived 1 mile away - around my age - (around late 40s at the time,) used to notice me petting her horses, and would sometimes come over and chat for 2-5 minutes.
This went on for some 6-8 months, and I saw her/had a quick 2-5 minute chat about 10 times in that time. This one time I was in town at Morrisons with DH and one of my DC who was visiting from University, and saw this woman at the next checkout. I smiled and waved, and she waved back, but she looked a bit like
I saw her again a week later (whilst on a walk) and she said 'who was that man and young woman you were with?' I said 'my husband and daughter.' 'She said 'Oh my God, I didn't know you were married with children, I thought you were a lonely loner, that's one of the reasons I came to chat when I saw you on the 15th or so walk I'd seen you on as I felt a bit sorry for you all alone.' I was a bit embarrassed, and said 'oh my gosh
no I'm not a lonely loner, I just like to walk a lot and my husband isn't keen. He does come occasionally though...' She said 'oh no, I mean I like talking to you, but that was the original reason I started speaking you as I felt a bit sorry for you.' 😬
LOL!
Also, another story... DH and I rented a house privately for a couple of years (some 15-ish years ago,) while we decided if we wanted to stay roughly where we were, or if we wanted to leave town, and we rented as long as we did because our DC were still at the secondary school nearby... After about 4 months, a woman who hadn't spoke to us up til then - not ignored us, just always seemed too busy - started to chat one day. I asked her in as I was in the middle of taking the shopping in. Long story short, when we mentioned our 'landlord' she realised we were renting, and was shocked as she thought we had bought the house, as we 'didn't seem like renters.' 😂 We kept the garden nice and neat, and the house was quite tidy, and we 'didn't look like renters.' I was like
and then ...😆 ... I thought 'what do renters look like?
😂
