Lighthearted one for you - I’ve offended someone with my dinner for this evening

A fellow school mum popped in to drop some things off for me to take up to the school (I volunteer Thursday afternoon).

While she was here, I got tonight’s dinner out of the oven. I always make something in a tray on Thursdays as it’s a busy day for everyone (me, dh, ds 23, dd 13 and dd 6). It’s a cluster fuck of afterschool clubs, dh working from the office, ds on a late shift. So it just makes sense to have something in a tray that everyone can help themselves to and eat at different times; it’s only me and the 6 year old here at our usual dinner time on a Thursday.

Today I made sausage and bean pie. Sausages cut up, mixed with beans, cheesy mash on top. Easier than sausage, mash and beans kept separately IMO, when people are grabbing dinner.

Lazy bitch, aren’t I? Stay at home mum as well, I should be standing in the kitchen whipping up a three course meal whenever anyone wants to eat.

Anyway, I got it out the oven and you should have seen her face. Appalled that I would feed my family cut up beans and sausages and that were weren’t all going to sit around the table to a freshly prepared meal (we would all have to wait until about 9pm on a Thursday to eat together at the table, sod that).

She would never feed her family this meal. I did ask, would she feed them sausage and mash. Yes, she said. So I asked what the difference was. “This isn’t fresh! You don’t work, you could have made it this evening.” okay, crazy lady.

Anyway, lighthearted as she’s a silly cow, but here’s a photo of the offending dinner that horrified her.

Sounds delish op, I have made similar with fish fingers instead of sausages, and a sort of full English version with chopped sausages and bacon in the beans. It is very easy and tasty. She should do one!

Yip, made several variations of this in the past when time was tight ... its a great way to accommodate different timescales for eating. Well done OP.... I bet her kids would love it. Damned cheeky mare commenting.... some folk are so bloody rude!! I mostly cook in the morning and reheat for dinner.... what's the problem in that??

I only peel potatoes for mash on fancy occasions. It’s where all the flavour is! I do chop them into fairly small chunks for quicker boiling and honestly you hardly notice the skin.

Also my kids have just eaten reheated chilli before going off to scouts and nobody died - isn't reheating and eating when appropriate a very normal thing for a busy family to be doing?? We certainly do it on a couple of days a week otherwise I basically have to be cooking dinner whilst commuting which isn't very feasible 🤣

Maybe just me but I would not dream of commenting on someone’s food, unless it’s say that looks nice but I love mash potato, whack it in between white bread with butter and salad cream and I’m in potato heaven

I'd take the opportunity to wind her up, and for her next visit have something really strange (to my mind, anyway), such as a trifle with visible Marmite soldiers instead of sponge fingers, cauliflower and courgette instead of fruit, chilli custard and cream whipped with sardines. 😂

That is one of my favourite meals!

She can shut up 🤣 I’d be happy with that .
I was a SAHM and we had a couple of evenings that were ridiculous, me running to 2 different schools ( split site school) and also the children having different activities after school.
So I’d cook things like a curry ( often a Japanese curry ) and everyone had it at different times with the rice sat warm in the rice cooker .
Or I’d make a big lasagna early afternoon and everyone heated it up as they needed
Or else it was a scrambled eggs and toast dinner for the younger 2 and myself , husband and oldest daughter ate later .

She’s on the PTA. I help out a lot as I need a distraction from my life.

She dropped some stuff off for me to take to the school and had to go through what to do with it/where to take it with me.

She’s a school parent that I’ve known for a years now as we both volunteer for a lot of stuff.

I’m not going on holiday with her or having her round for drinks on the weekend.

I didn’t take great offence at all.

If you read the updates they have been friends since 13 and friend has form for this.
Try reading before getting on your high horse … incoherent … what an odd comment.
