If you were ruler for a day. What minor thing would you fix.

I am not here talking stuff that would have long lasting political impact or getting rid of people permanently I am talking the smaller irritants that makes your eye roll and you are like "someone should do something about it"

Well for one day you are that someone what would you do?

For me. Potholes on my road and roads near by to be fixed (I would say all but I dont think 1 day would be enough time) but as many as they could manage in each city for the day

Also I would have someone drive around the towns cutting back hedges that are 1/2meter to 1 across the pavement. I know they would look shite after butthat's my minor irritant.

Convention is left on pavements and footpaths, but yes, you're right to walk on the right on roads without pavements, so that you can see the traffic coming towards you (and can leap into the hedge if necessary!!). The difference is whether you're on a pavement/footpath or on the road itself.

I would have BST year round. You can do more with daylight in the late afternoon than at breakfast time.

I would ban health visitors that dont have kids !!

If you take any bladed weapon to a public place you go straight to prison.

At the very least, I would force the shops (the standard ones, not the very few specialist Christmas shops) to have the courage of their convictions, if they insist on lengthening the Christmas period ad absurdum - and it must go equally both ways.

If they start playing nothing but Christmas songs from the start of September, they will be forced to play nothing but Christmas songs until the end of April - then the penny might just finally drop as to how utterly ridiculous they're being.

It never ceases to amaze me how many shops have the Christmas music in full swing months before, yet as soon as 27th December rolls around... not a trace of it!

Only when there is no pavement.

On the pavement it’s safer to walk on the left. If you walk on the right, then you have your back to traffic. The person closest to the traffic should be facing towards it.

It’s the same principle as walking on the right of the road when there’s no pavement, just reversed for the conditions.

I'd like the tiny electric cars like the Fiat Topolino and Microlino or Citroën Ami to be OK to drive without a driving licence, like in some European countries. I don't think that it should be legal from the age of 14 like in France and Italy but I read a thread on here the other day by a pregnant Mumsnetter who had failed her driving test and was so upset.

I think you can drive them with a moped licence but I'm not sure what that entails these days. They only go at 28 mph with a following wind and an amount of goodwill and must be slightly safer than a moped or one of those mobility scooters.

I don't really see enough of them about to analyse the pros and cons too deeply but with the driving test waiting lists being so long it would surely help some people out?

I would tar and feather people who park in P&C spaces and one adult remains in the car with the child.

If we had to choose BST or GMT all year round I'd definitely choose BST.

I think the mornings would be hideous in December and January if we had BST though, so I'd suggest keeping the clock change, but putting them forward the first Sunday in March instead of the last.

I really don't understand the people who want year-round GMT. It would already be dark before 7 if we had that!

The only problem with that, though, is that 95% of driving is about safely navigating the road, and 5% is about controlling the vehicle.

It's manageable if people without licences ride bikes on the road, as they're not only slow but also very narrow - and they're distinct enough from cars that (sensible) drivers know that the chief responsibility for driving alongside them rests with them, as the ones who have definitely passed tests and are qualified licence-holders... but anything that is clearly identified as a car, however small or weedy, will not be given the same understanding or consideration.

I'd go the other way and impose driving tests on all motorised transport users, i.e. even low powered mopeds, ALL electric bikes/scooters, and yes, even mobility scooters. Obviously not the full car driving test, but a "lite" test of the basics of road safety, road signs, basic traffic laws, etc. The last thing we need are any more people driving around faster than a pedestrian, in whatever "vehicle" they choose to use, causing even more mayhem, injuries, etc. I'd also impose all such vehicles to be properly licensed/registered with license plates too for identification in case of incident.

It does seem a very bizarre open secret that you can ride a motorbike unaccompanied for years and years without ever having to take a test - as long as you permanently display your L-plates.

I was thinking about this today on my way home. When (not if) I’m queen of the universe I am banning cyclists on roads.

Probably unpopular but I would ban balloon releases. And balloon arches. Just balloons actually.

I’d ban the sale of fireworks to randoms too. So no garden displays, only properly organised displays and people would have to get a licence to put on a display.

I’d make crushing nuisance cars a major thing. Loud popping exhaust? Seized and crushed. Chronic speeder? Seized and crushed. Driving through pedestrian / zebra crossings? Seized and crushed. Blocking pavements? You get the gist.

And all of the nice crushed car cubes would then be dropped back onto their driveway.

Oh and to add to my point, lone men parking in P&C spaces - same thing. Car crushed. And persistent middle lane drivers.

Or at least until 2nd February which is forty days afterwards.

I would like hard labour for those who graffiti and tag. Get the scoundrels cleaning our streets. Also those who spit. Disgusting habit.

I'd get rid of the overhead lockers entirely and restrict cabin baggage to one small handbag or backpack, at least on short-haul flights. How much stuff does anyone really need to have available for a three-hour flight? Anything not necessary for the journey should be in the hold.

Given that many airlines charge extra for hold luggage, that you have to wait for it at the other end, and that you are at risk of it going missing, I'll carry on using cabin-baggage only, thanks.
