If you were ruler for a day. What minor thing would you fix.

I am not here talking stuff that would have long lasting political impact or getting rid of people permanently I am talking the smaller irritants that makes your eye roll and you are like "someone should do something about it"

Well for one day you are that someone what would you do?

For me. Potholes on my road and roads near by to be fixed (I would say all but I dont think 1 day would be enough time) but as many as they could manage in each city for the day

Also I would have someone drive around the towns cutting back hedges that are 1/2meter to 1 across the pavement. I know they would look shite after butthat's my minor irritant.

Forcing a large stick through the wheel spokes of an adult cycling on the pavement wouldn't just be legal, it would be mandatory.

You would also be allowed to use that stick to beat people who stop suddenly at the top of escalators / in doorways etc.

I'd love to see you doing 60 down the single track lane next to my house.

The lane has a 60 mph limit?

GreyhpundGirl · 10/09/2026 17:11

Lorries on the roads during the day.

lostfather666 · 10/09/2026 17:11

Cost of living take off the rich to help us disabled say

Vitrolinsanity · 10/09/2026 17:12

Instant driving ban for entitled twats that don’t follow the zip protocol for merging traffic.

I've totally forgotten something.

In my world all businesses will have to have staffed call centres and an email address. And if you contact them, they have to substantively resolve your query that day or the day after. Unless it's really complex. No hiding behind bots and "your call is important to us" messages. Nope. You answer the phone on the second ring, you LISTEN to the person and you deal with their enquiry. And you employ enough people to read emails and deal with them properly.

Edited

I vote for you!

Justanopinionnothingmore · 10/09/2026 17:19

In fact I'd ban all e-scooters, bikes and those delivery bots.

DelphiniumBlue · 10/09/2026 17:21

Businesses would have to have a real person answering the phone within a minute. That person would be knowledgeable about the firms procedures, and actively helpful. However, having been helpful and resolved the problem, they would not be firing off emails asking me to grade them on their performance.

AlbertofT1 · 10/09/2026 17:37

Evict the source of all EVILS. This labour government.

rolloverbeethoven · 10/09/2026 17:41

When bloody Evri lose a package they wouldn't be allowed to go home for tea until they've found it and delivered it 😡

Notsosweetcaroline · 10/09/2026 17:44

I’d put a magic trick in, thay if you were going to do or say something cunty, just as you’re in a mood or unhappy, you’d be struck dumb and Illiterate so no one had to be subjected to your abuse.

They need to add ‘my’. Maybe it’s because I’ve lost both my parents but I hate it when people don’t add the ‘my’

I’m glad you clarified because I don’t think I could get on board with using my parent’s first names.

The lane has a 60 mph limit?

The road down to our village is mostly 60mph. OK, it's not a single track, but it is very windy with a lot of blind bends and high stone walls in parts. It isn't uncommon to encounter a giant tractor or lorry coming round one of the bends.

Driving at 60 would be totally reckless.

Cadeaukatze · 10/09/2026 18:01

As part of my noise pollution laws there will be a public information campaign to advise people that they can plug in headphones to the USB socket in their phones.

I don't get the point of e-scooters. What do they do that a bike doesn't, e-version or otherwise?

MadMAGA · 10/09/2026 11:27

I'd ban balloon, lantern and dove releases and the sale of fireworks to the public.

Bundle of fun, me. Right laugh at parties.

Well I am definitely a right laugh at parties and I would ban these too!!

Enko · 10/09/2026 18:35

Oh I thought of one more. Anyone caught putting their feet on the seats in busses and trains a £1000.00 fine immediately if unable to pay it doubles and you go to prison. Other train passengers can report through an app and police collects at next station. Also similar for bags on seats when others are standing up

They are very efficient at moving robbers around our cities.

MrsBatshitRatshit · 10/09/2026 22:16

Exceptionally noisy vehicles (motorcycles, quad bikes, sports cars with 'popping' engines) not to be driven between 11pm and 7am, on pain of being crushed (one giant crushing machine to be mandatory in every postcode).

crackofdoom · 10/09/2026 22:22

SwirlyGates · 10/09/2026 13:45

So here's a trivial, first world problem.

I'm expecting a parcel and this morning I got a notice that it would be here between 4.30-5.30 and I'd need to be in, so I've planned my day around this. It just arrived, 3 hours early at 1.30!

I guess I can add in the numerous deliveries for which "you need to be in to receive this" or "we will require a signature", so you make sure you're home, but they don't even ring the bell and just dump them on the doorstep.

That can't have been DPD...

Because the DPD man turned up yesterday on my doorstep at 18.55, and we had to engage in pointless chitchat for 5 minutes because he wasn't allowed to give me my parcel outside of my 19.00- 20.00 slot.

DraigCymraeg · 10/09/2026 17:11

The lane has a 60 mph limit?

Most tiny narrow single track country lanes do, yes...

Have you never driven rurally?

crackofdoom · 10/09/2026 22:30

dontcookwontcook · 10/09/2026 16:30

I don’t agree but ok
ideally if you don’t have time to tend to a garden, please pave it over and keep it tidy
I’m not demanding they’re a landscape gardener or can make dolphins out of hedges
tidy is perfectly fine

"Please pave it over, thereby contributing to water runoff and flooding when it's wet, and overheating when there's a heatwave" 👏👏👏

ProfessorofDarkArts · 10/09/2026 08:04

I would ban mobile phones on loudspeaker in public and kids with tablets and no headphones.

You can be my ruler for the day!! It drives me insane when people do that. Was waiting for an eyebrow thread listening to some doll playing candy crush full volume. I actually had to leave.

snurtifier · 10/09/2026 22:35

I would move the extra day in leap years to June. No-one wants or needs an extra day of February.

That’s a very good one. I agree.
