If you were ruler for a day. What minor thing would you fix.

I am not here talking stuff that would have long lasting political impact or getting rid of people permanently I am talking the smaller irritants that makes your eye roll and you are like "someone should do something about it"

Well for one day you are that someone what would you do?

For me. Potholes on my road and roads near by to be fixed (I would say all but I dont think 1 day would be enough time) but as many as they could manage in each city for the day

Also I would have someone drive around the towns cutting back hedges that are 1/2meter to 1 across the pavement. I know they would look shite after butthat's my minor irritant.

Another one. Loud radios on with back doors open. It’s not even being turned off/down during the ad breaks. Er, we are all in a built-up area. Think on selfish fucker.

MintedOnVinted · 10/09/2026 13:04

When people are talking to me about their mum and dad who are not MY mum and dad, they wouldn’t refer to them as Mum and Dad. I mean children can. But as adults it makes me shudder.

blondeboobshell · 10/09/2026 13:09

I’d need more than a day but I would want women’s health care to be massively improved. I’d reduce the 6 weeks worth holidays to 4 weeks and allow parents to take children for two weeks out of school. I’d ban loose pads on bras either sewn in padding or none at all!

Ooh that’s an interesting one. Do you mean something like a middle aged person saying ‘taking mum shopping tomorrow’ or do they insert ‘my’?

They need to add ‘my’. Maybe it’s because I’ve lost both my parents but I hate it when people don’t add the ‘my’

Ah I get it. I’m with you on that 💯 - off to the stocks for those people.

In a similar vain , I have a aunt who swaps between referring my ( deceased) mum by name or 'your mum' several times in one conversation. Pick one and stick to it !
I also have a friend who is in her 70s that refers to her long since departed dm/dd as mummy and daddy . It makes me cringe

So here's a trivial, first world problem.

I'm expecting a parcel and this morning I got a notice that it would be here between 4.30-5.30 and I'd need to be in, so I've planned my day around this. It just arrived, 3 hours early at 1.30!

I guess I can add in the numerous deliveries for which "you need to be in to receive this" or "we will require a signature", so you make sure you're home, but they don't even ring the bell and just dump them on the doorstep.

Thechickenhasmypillow · 10/09/2026 13:47

I'd like to make it illegal to hold meetings that could be emails.

MissBattleaxe · 10/09/2026 13:55

I'd ban phones in cinemas and theatres. Are people truly incapable of lasting around 90 minutes without checking their phones? It's ruins the escapism!

Oh god yes! Pointless meetings just so managers can moan how busy and tied up they are! Instead of actually ‘doing’ they talk about ‘doing’ in a 3 hour meeting when info could have been sent in an email! Every week I have a meeting like this where the first half hour is people catching up with each other, followed by an hour discussing the previous weeks meeting, followed by half an hour discussing what has been achieved since last meeting (and people struggling to share their screen) when it could have just been emailed followed by another hour of what will be discussed in the next meeting 🤣

Chuck in a few people on teams "you're on mute! Can you hear me? Can you hear me?" 😣

Orangeyoucan · 10/09/2026 14:00

I would bring in harsh punishments for people who spit in the street. It’s absolutely disgusting and I’m seeing it more and more these days. Why oh why do people feel the need to spit in the street fgs? It’s disgusting!

Turn your camera on! Turn it on! I’m not continuing with this meeting until I can see you! Now all of you introduce yourselves and your role -even though we speak all the time and share an office 😂😂

I would enforce an automatic 3 points to your driving licence if the vehicle you own is parked on the pavement or over a dropped curb.

Or crossing point, please - I swear sometimes the presence of a crossing, and the points on the pavement where you are encouraged to cross, makes it worse. The one I am thinking of is right near a newish set of parcel lockers, and the lockers also make sightlines and pavement space really rubbish too.

Ormally · 10/09/2026 14:10

Two train operating companies would be axed and their routes instantly be given over to companies who actually manage to run their trains.
Would be open to suggestions for others who deserve this, provided that there are actually more than a couple of operators left that would be able to take up the slack.

Justanopinionnothingmore · 10/09/2026 14:13

I would have cars automatically send alerts to car insurance when people don't use their indicators when changing lane or turning.

Yea petulant as heck but if I'm ruler then I'm queen petty.

Also make it an offence to walk over a road looking at your phone.

I'd make cyclists and e-scooter riders have number plates so if they go through red lighrs then they get penalties too.

Heartofglass12345 · 10/09/2026 14:19

Definitely get rid of the 20mph speed limit in wales, except near schools. It’s so annoying 😆

LadyHexham · 10/09/2026 14:22

I would ban topless men everywhere except the beach or their own back garden.

Put an age limit on boys in women's changing rooms and toilets.
The limit is 5 in the Middle East.

showmethegin · 10/09/2026 14:29

I’d make it law that those inexplicably loose pads you get in non underwired bras must be sewn in. Rather than every single time I wash them having to fumble around blind through a tiny hole in the corner of the cup to straighten them.

angelos02 · 10/09/2026 14:37

Another meetings one - when it is naturally coming to an end, manager says, right, I think that's it, and then goes on about something else. Rinse and repeat. Or when someone has a big question to ask the manager, they should say to the team, I'll let you all get on and I'll discuss this with (insert name of manager). No, they have the conversation and we're all just sat there too polite to say, can I just go now!

Bring back the dog license
3 hours free parking
Shopkeepers sweep & clean outside their premises.
Weekly refuse collection.
Residential street lights not turned off at 11pm.
Name & shame shoplifters.

And those who fly tip plus they should go to prison

FromaBubblegumTree · 10/09/2026 14:57

A sliding scale of punishment for anyone that chews gum.

Bottom of the scale would be people that try to pretend that they aren't chewing in the first place. I'd make them sit in front of a mirror and watch themselves for hours on end.

Inflated penalty for people that chew with their mouths open.

Maximum penalty for the above plus poking out the tiny piece of gum between their teeth so that you have to look at it and/or blowing and popping bubbles.

I've just realised that I changed my username earlier today - I wasn't thinking about gum at all - just an ear worm song lyric, but it is nicely appropriate for this thread.

Badbadbunny · 10/09/2026 15:28

Make a law that people have to walk on the left of pavements and footpaths, akin to how we drive on the road, to avoid the "dance" of both people moving to the same side as they approach each other but on the same side, where they both move to the other side at the same time, then back again, etc. Just stay on the left and you pass eachother naturally. Likewise for other footpath users like cycles who currently randomly pass people on the left or right often without any form of notice/warning. If people (walkers and cyclists) kept to the left except when overtaking, it would make things so much simpler and safer.
