If you were ruler for a day. What minor thing would you fix.

I am not here talking stuff that would have long lasting political impact or getting rid of people permanently I am talking the smaller irritants that makes your eye roll and you are like "someone should do something about it"

Well for one day you are that someone what would you do?

For me. Potholes on my road and roads near by to be fixed (I would say all but I dont think 1 day would be enough time) but as many as they could manage in each city for the day

Also I would have someone drive around the towns cutting back hedges that are 1/2meter to 1 across the pavement. I know they would look shite after butthat's my minor irritant.

I'd ban balloon, lantern and dove releases and the sale of fireworks to the public.

Bundle of fun, me. Right laugh at parties.

Whosthetabbynow · 10/09/2026 11:33

I’d ban kids and dogs and food in pubs and bring back smoking so everyone could have a drink and a fag in peace like we used to.

Any service proveder that has you on a webchat for more than one hour and atill hasn't fixed the issue is obliged to:

a) send all information/bills in writing henceforward and
b) provide the customer with a direct line free phone number to a qualified human, that is guaranteed be answered within 1 minute, 8am-9pm.

Failure to comply leads to waiver of bills plus 50% compensation on top for any monies due, for each calendar month featuring a misdemeanour

Anyone who talks while the lights are down during a play would be forcibly removed and kicked down the theatre steps. The same applies to people who cough more than twice. If you know you are going to cough, you should stay at home.

Agree with all the pp about heavy fines for playing phones out loud on public. I would make it a £200 fine with a ban from all public transport until this is paid, and immediate eviction from the train /bus. Second offences would be punishable by a year long ban. Third offences a permanent ban.

I would make it mandatory for supermarkets to have at least one checkout manned while they are open.

I would put a limit of one betting shop per postcode

All roadworks to be carried out at night under floodlights, with exceptions where the floodlights/noise would cause disturbance such as residential streets.

Bus and train companies fined if their services are persistently late /cancelled, with escalation if they continue

And have bricks thrown at them.

People would no longer be allowed to flex their arms while posing unless they had actually put the hard work in and developed some visibly muscular biceps.

This may sound oddly specific, but being a lesbian who has a lot of other lesbians come up on her social media, I see it a lot.

If your arms are like knots in cotton, what the chuff are you double-fronting at?

Sunbringer · 10/09/2026 11:54

I’d make litter picking a school activity. Once a month a class from each local school must go and litter pick nearby - to teach the importance of not bloody littering.

Id also make it the main community service task - not cleaning churches or painting fences. Litter picking.

I’d require every local councillor and MP to litter pick for at least one day a year.

I’d offer parents the opportunity to sign up their misbehaving kids to a morning litter picking as their punishment for infractions at home.

Everyone picking up litter. Maybe then we won’t live in a living cess pit.

And this. Although I don't feel that this is a minor irritation more a callous act of human hubris and terrible for the environment and our fellow earthlings.

Heavily fine utility firms and traffic "Mis"management firms who close roads/lanes for days when the actual work takes an hour or two. Or charge them an hourly rate, that doubles overnight and weekends, to encourage them to do the job more efficiently and take away the sodding cones/traffic lights when the job is finished, not a week later!

Likewise on long term motorway jobs when the cones and lane closures are left for months despite no work being done at all on certain stretches.

Fine firms for taking too long and incentivise them to do the work quicker (or remove the blockages when not needed).

I'd love HMRC, NHS and other government departments to be subject to that. I've wasted hours/days/month in fact probably years of my life either on hold or having to make numerous repeat calls because they either don't answer the call or the person answering it doesn't actually do what they say they will, meaning you have to call again and go through it all again, in the vain hope the next person may actually be competent and willing to do their sodding job properly!

Outdoor smoking areas must be a completely separate area, NOT a roofed area attached to the main building. The roof forces the smoke back into the main building and I still end stinking of other peoples cigarettes.

People must pay for their trees to be cut on their neighbours side. Your tree, your cost!

I have just had to sign up for a garden bin as my neighbour's hedge is hell bent on world domination and I need to give it a strong prune. It's at least half ivy, so can't compost it at home. But as she is otherwise the most wonderful neighbour in the world, my law change is that garden bins get collected more than fortnightly at this time of year.

Legoninjago1 · 10/09/2026 12:03

Another one for the use of headphones in public. It’s just incredibly ignorant.

Madamecholetsbonnet · 10/09/2026 12:09

I would make it compulsory to light motorways and A Roads so I can actually drive at night.

Ban anyone from listening to music/video in public without proper headphones.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 10/09/2026 12:15

Right now id like to make a law that anyone who conplains about the vilunteer rescue services such as the RNLI, Mountain rescue etc forfeits the right to use their services.

But those services will never do that, as they are far better people than the current racist bigots on Social Media.

Erase ALL REMOVABLE BRA PADS 🗣

Either provide tops/ bras with permanent pads in or no pads. The hours I have wasted trying to manhandle the pads back into the right shape through the miniscule gap are criminal. It was definitely a man that came up with that stupid idea.

ThePurpleShark · 10/09/2026 12:21

Community service AND a heavy fine for anyone imposing their bonfire on the neighbour, at any date or time.

Smoking out the neighbourhood is never acceptable at any month of the year, or any time of the day or night.

Why are we making our lives miserable by putting up with antisocial behaviour, smoke, noise and light pollution from people?

angelos02 · 10/09/2026 12:38

Huge fines for people that don't attend hospital appointments - without a very good reason. They are so precious and so unappreciated.

soddingspiderseason · 10/09/2026 12:41

Men with their arses hanging out of trousers or sweatpants. Bring back braces and belts.

With you on this. Plus a ban on using helium for balloons even if they're not going to be littered released.

I'm also fun!

leavesinthebreeze · 10/09/2026 12:49

People on their phone in public and putting it on speaker.
Parents scrolling on their phone when pushing a buggy or with young dc out and about and walking around. Should be limited to 2 minutes incase it’s an emergency.

whiteroseredrose · 10/09/2026 12:50

Ban helium balloons being released- it is delayed littering. Same with fireworks.

I would bring the stocks in train and tube stations, for all the faffers at the top and bottom of escalators, and who don't have their ticket/phone ready at the gates.

I'll make all trains "silent trains" with heavy fines for loud music, loud tablets, phones and conversations.

I'll make the working week a 4 days week

I love this. Especially faffers at the top of the escalator.
Also people who get to a checkout then look surprised and start scratching around for their purse.

Gall10 · 10/09/2026 12:57

Instant death penalty to people who allow their sprogs to sit in shopping trollies…I don’t want dog shit on my groceries thank you very much!

SerendipityCat · 10/09/2026 13:03

I’d ban certain individuals from ever appearing on TV again, including

Simon Cowell
Ant and Dec
Lorraine Kelly
Amanda Holden
Alison Hammond
Stephen Mulhern
Bradley Walsh

And many more I could bring to mind, but I’d be here all day!
