Influx of far-right posters

Slightyamusedandsilly · 07/09/2026 08:57

Why has the site suddenly had an influx of far-right posters? Almost overnight.

Is this a concerted campaign by the black shirts from Dover, Reform or Tommy ten names to infiltrate women's SM?

Yes it's a private limited company controlled by farage called reform party. It is not legally a political party with democracy.

3 directors - Harvey Spencer Griffiths, Peter Durnell & Farage. There is apparently no person registered as having significant control.

Divebar2021 · 07/09/2026 14:28

I have noticed an increase of posts about immigration yes and when you get involved they don’t seem to engage intelligently about the subject. It seems to be posting of absolute nonsense pie charts that mangle up a pile of random figures. They don’t want to debate those figures or discuss the intricacies… probably because research methodology is not their strong suit. I don’t particularly associate these posters with general right wing voters who are able to have a sensible debate about a range of policies. ( even if their views are not my views)

I am not far right but have been a Conservative Party Member since 1978. I've always been surprised at how left leaning a supposedly middle class forum is.

Why? ABC1s are spread across the political spectrum with higher education associated with tendancy to lean left, as is being younger. Women are more likely to be left wing than men. So on a site dominated by educated women many of an age where they're still raising children I'd expect a left wing bias.

So mn is more left wing? I see posts saying right wing or as this one has an ‘influx of far right’.

I think that has changed. Yusaf and Farage according to this (sorry) GB news article last year. The Griffiths fella has just been added, Durnell gone.

Nigel Farage steps back as Reform UK owner and 'hands over membership' as party 'prepares for Government' (gbnews.com)

But no matter really. It is still a private company. And a private company that is very reluctant to issue a statement of accounts.

I don't know how this companies thing works. If they just keep restarting the company does that mean they can hold off from publishing accounts.

I got a few search hits about them breaking company law by not filing accounts.

My position is that we are missing a couple of important things - we must know who is coming into the country and accept that not everyone arrives with good/pure intentions (that's human nature).

When people arrive through illegal means and without any documentation the authorities have to take their word for it. Then they get housed in local communities where the local residents, understandably, feel uncomfortable about this. On top of that, people are coming from countries with very different cultures, often around attitudes to women, gay people and behaviour. There is a distinct move that the comfort of other cultures must come before our own... an approach that would be (is) viewed as problematic in non-UK countries.

Pretending culture clashes don't happen or that everyone will automatically blend in is just ignoring what people experience in their day-to-day lives. Most of us want to help genuine refugees fleeing war. But the current setup is full of loopholes that bad actors and human traffickers exploit...whether that’s claiming to be a minor, destroying papers, or stringing out legal appeals.

It's a bad scene. My position would be for hard deterrents to the boats and borders alongside strict entry criteria for entering the country based on skills.

For people to be able to claim asylum they have to be physically present on UK soil or at a UK port of entry.. That's why people risk their lives crossing the channel

How will you deter these people if ot is their only option?

Some data

UK asylum claims fell by 21% to approximately 86,000 in the year leading up to June 2026

cuppachaha · 07/09/2026 14:38

I think we should all ditch the labels because calling anyone "far right" or "far left" is the same as stereotyping someone, it's never correct. Even worse, the mainstream media, which is left wing, have somehow made it so anyone slightly right is "far right" - a very childish way to (appear to) win an argument.

Let's stick to the actual views for debate, shall we? I think most normal, sensible people have common ground, if the media hadn't distorted everyone's views and have us trothing at the mouths.

YourWatermelonship · 07/09/2026 14:39

A crime is being committed right now. Traffickers and recruiters are preying on vulnerable people. Come down hard on the traffickers and there will be no boats.

Deal with asylum applications promptly and there will be no backlog and no need to pay millions in accommodation. By promptly I mean within days. Labour are working through the enormous backlog the tories left behind.

Welcome genuine asylum seekers properly (make sure they speak English, understand how to behave and go somewhere where there's enough infrastructure as in schools, doctors etc) and there will be fewer integration issues.

Deport refused asylum seekers promptly. I'm happy with other countries' approach to stop visas from countries that refuse returns. Deportations are up under Labour.

It really is quite simple. We are having the issues that we are having because the public sector can't deal with the workload and the country is reeling from decades of underinvestment.

It seems that Labour are trying to tackle the issues with some success. But can they stay on top of the narrative?

Exactly... that's precisely why the system needs redesigning. By needing people to be on UK soil to claim, we’ve literally created a setup where illegal crossings and people-smuggling are built into the process.

As a previous poster said, it’s implementing offshore processing centres and designated safe routes. There is also a requirement to combine that with fast-track returns for anyone attempting with irregularities. If crossing the Channel means immediate removal to an offshore facility rather than settlement in a local UK community, the smuggler's business model collapses.

A 21% drop is a start, but 86,000 claims a year is still high. Plus, Home Office data shows around 40% of claimants actually arrive on standard visas first before claiming...so the lack of control goes far beyond just the boat crossings.

What mainstream media is left wing ? The Guardian probably yes. But I am not seeing many news outlets calling for Capitalism to be overthrown, the red flag hoisted, and a new proletariat government installed, with the means of production being put into the hands of the workers.

Hyperbole I know. But what MSM is left wing ?

I said I'd expect a left wing bias in response to PP expressing her surprise that a middle class site wasn't more right leaning, not that it was. As I'm not entirely sure.
I haven't personally done a count up of posters I think are left or right. If you're on a thread about an annoying MiL or a dog in a cafe, it doesn't come up. On the political threads there's some user names I recognise as having a certain persuasion but again I've not kept a tally.
I'm not sure this is what the OPs talking about anyway. I don't think she means a lot of people who vote Conservative as the person I responded to took it.
I think she means there's been an influx of threads where people are taking quite aggressive right wing stances on things such as welfare and Immigration, expressing support for violence or disorder if the perpetrators are right wing and so on. Which I think is new and doesn't reflect the more balanced and moderate posting behaviour I associate with most users.

The government data shows there is control, otherwise we wouldn't have the figures.

We are broadly in agreement.

Yes yes, I strongly agree with this. Much better than than trying to herd everyone into teams, sticking labels on them, and then (all to often) encouraging the teams to fight each other.

And I agree, such stereotyping labels are rarely fully correct.

Um, I do have to point out that a cracking example of how labelling fails is right there in your own post... I don't think the Daily Mail and GB News will take kindly to you labelling them left wing...Grin

But yes, I strongly believe that the current trend for dividing us into simplistic labels is really damaging.

BBC is left wing ?
Slap bang in the middle according to Media bias check.

BBC - Bias and Credibility - Media Bias/Fact Check (mediabiasfactcheck.com)

From the above

"Analysis
The BBC is frequently accused of bias from both left and right, but recent developments point toward a rightward drift relative to past assessments. A 2025 analysis from The Conversation argues that political pressure and editorial decisions are shifting the BBC toward more conservative framing. See: The Conversation analysis.
A major 2025 Good Law Project / YouGov poll found that 70% of trans respondents consider the BBC’s coverage “hostile,” citing years of platforming fringe anti-trans views as if they were mainstream. See: Good Law Project poll.
At the same time, right-wing critics continue to attack the BBC. President Donald Trump recently announced plans to sue the corporation for $1–$5 billion over what he claims is defamatory coverage. See: The Hill report.
The BBC maintains editorial impartiality guidelines available here: Editorial Principles. Complaints can be filed through Ofcom: BBC Complaints Process."

Quote " Why does everything have to be in extremes?"

Because of calibration and perception, I think. A Corbyn fan, or a Farage fan might be out of calibration with their perception. And something I used to do was to read a story, and if I felt it was "off", I would go to Reuters to calibrate myself. Because if one is far off center, left or right, ones viewpoint might be skewed.

And add to that the centrist point of the Overton window is slightly different in different nations.

Absolutely creases me how the left label everyone with a different opinion to them as a bot. They genuinely cannot understand how people think differently to them and have different experiences and views but apparently the right are the ones that are narrow minded 😂

I’m on the left of the spectrum and often called a bot by right whingers on MN.

Dadalus · 07/09/2026 15:46

@RedTagAlan I wouldn't consider a poll from the Good Law Project about trans views on the BBC's "hostile coverage" compelling evidence. They find reality in general hostile.

IMO the BBC is too big to have a single monolithic political leaning. It will have pockets of left leaning culture & output and pockets of right.
