Influx of far-right posters

Slightyamusedandsilly · 07/09/2026 08:57

Why has the site suddenly had an influx of far-right posters? Almost overnight.

Is this a concerted campaign by the black shirts from Dover, Reform or Tommy ten names to infiltrate women's SM?

@cuppachaha Apologies, I should have read that media bias check to the end before hitting post, I missed this.

"Overall, we rate the BBC Least Biased with a slight lean to the right, reflecting recent editorial patterns and a tendency toward establishment-oriented framing. We also rate them Mostly Factual, based on generally reliable sourcing but reduced for instances such as editing Donald Trump’s speech in a manner that framed it negatively, along with occasional issues involving sensitive social coverage. (5/15/2016) Updated (M. Huitsing 04/09/2026)"

The bit I bolded. "Least Biased with a slight lean to the right," . To me, it's the first part that matters. Least Biased. The slight lean to the right does not really matter. In my world of calibration, the overall verdict is good enough to make the BBC a quick calibration standard.

That is, if ones scales are off zero, pop a bit of BBC news on the weighing platform and set the needle to zero. If one still feels the BBC is far off, then time to call the scales service people in. Or changes ones glasses so one can read the display better.

I still think Reuters is probably the best calibration standard though.

I think a problem for the BBC, and other national broadcasters such as RTE, is that many people can conflate their programming with the news. They might think "Eastenders has gone woke, therefore the news is woke too". But that is really not the case. Programming and news are separate things.

Yes, I have noticed the Reform supporters/racist/xenophobic idiots are out in force.

It is the same thing on platforms like X. Just part of the far right attempt to influence opinion and manipulate the news agenda.

They pass themselves as people who have concerns about 'our women and girls' (although the recent Reform conference showed that they only show concerns with the women who agree with them and are happy to beat up those who don't) and hide their pure racism and xenophobia behind concerns about 'small boats'.

I have no sympathy either for the idiots who cowardly covered their faces while blocking Dover on Saturday.

We don't need the far right to continue to address illegal immigration in a sensible and effective way.

To be fair I've seen a lot of left wing protesters with their faces covered in various marches over the years.

HRTQueen · 07/09/2026 15:56

TopPocketFind · 07/09/2026 13:59

We all want controlled immigration, we probably disagree on what that control should look like but common ground and respect can be found.

Far right views are very different to that. When you have posters encouraging people to support those masked black cladded men, attacking our emergency services then that is a huge worry. Especially when they have just signed up to this platform.

I did see support for the protest

I did not see support of protesters attacking emergency services, but I may have missed this

I think a lot of support for the protesters is not just coming from the right wing of politics I think many in the centre ground are not unsupportive of these protesters, they may not agree with their politics on a whole but believe that it has got so out of hand now that this is what needs to be done

Am I comfortable with it, no. Am I surprised not in the slightest

I’m on the left of the spectrum and often called a bot by right whingers on MN.

‘Whingers’ this is mostly from the left and other usual stuff.

OneLilacHedgehog · 07/09/2026 15:57

@EasternStandard so anyone who disagrees with you is a winger?
Just shut up women and agree?

For people to be able to claim asylum they have to be physically present on UK soil or at a UK port of entry.. That's why people risk their lives crossing the channel

How will you deter these people if ot is their only option?

Some data

UK asylum claims fell by 21% to approximately 86,000 in the year leading up to June 2026

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-june-2026/how-many-people-claim-asylum-in-the-uk

I am slightly sceptical of offshore processing. Depending on where such centres were, I think you could open up the UK to almost unlimited valid claims. Then presumably we set a quota, but then what stops people over that quota becoming the next wave of boat crossings? Wouldn't they be hard to deport if we have already accepted they may face danger in their own country? Quite possibly there's an element of the policy I'm missing, but of the few times I've asked this I haven't had a convincing answer yet.

Smokeywater · 07/09/2026 15:58

I am amazed that posters think it's a good idea to fill the country with illegal immigrants - hasn't Germany just voted in a fascist party in one of their constituencies - are you all deaf??

And as for BBC being unbiased - were you still at primary when the transgender issue was regularly in the news - I'll never forgive them for their stance on that - the oh, so truthful and reliable news reporter - haha

You must mean the pp I’m replying to who used ‘right whinger’

Using "deaf" as an insult says it all.

Literally nobody has said that

I object to your comment and tone ( "were you in primary when...") but fully agree that the BBC has been / is unreliable and downright lies where transgender issues are involved. I live in Wales, their coverage of anything Welsh is beyond a joke.

I can't answer those questions, we would need experts for that.

The UK signed up the the Refugee Convention and therefore they principle of non-refoulement applies.

All systems will have flaws but I don't think the UK will get almost unlimited claims. Most refugees stay close to their country.

Tbf I don’t think there is an answer. The demand is an issue.

Yes indeed.

This is why it's so important to drown out the fact that numbers are falling. Because it might suggest that no, this is not what needs to be done.

The demand will fluctuate depending on wars and environmental disasters.

I agree that there aren't any easy answers. All governments will have this issue.

We can change the hatred towards refugees/asylum seekers without dismissing concerns.

Gosh, I mean God forbid some posters have views that are not left wing, and are more centric, or right leaning. Shock

The fact that some posters are calling people racist, bigoted, and thick, because they don't support 10s of 1000s of undocumented young men coming into the country every year (whose values don't align with ours even remotely, and who have zero respect for women,) and are passionate about womens safety, tells me all I need to know about those posters. Narrow minded and intolerant. And they have the nerve to call right of centre people bigoted. Actual wow. Confused

Thank you @BeckyAMumsnet for your balanced and articulate post. It is appreciated. Sick to death of the 'U so racissst and stooopid' accusations from anyone who doesn't toe the left-wing line!

Yes, you get right of centre folk throwing insults now and again at the left, but it's almost ALWAYS in retaliation. Insults and mocking and vitriol comes from the left waaaay more.

Well the numbers are falling I am not sure that is convincing enough any longer

look at the numbers of the last few years. Down by 45% this year so far, from June 2025 to June 26 down by 23%

But up by 38% from previous year June to June .

People are not stupid the government need to be more honest rather than celebrating this drop in numbers because it is simply not good enough that its dropped over what is relatively a short period of time and that this could increase, and then there are the people arriving that are not accounted for

People have lost faith in governments giving out numbers when especially when you look at the bigger picture and we are given snap shot of a period in time. This is an ongoing issue for a number of years people are clued up on what is happening

RedTagAlan · 07/09/2026 16:41

Dadalus · 07/09/2026 15:46

@RedTagAlan I wouldn't consider a poll from the Good Law Project about trans views on the BBC's "hostile coverage" compelling evidence. They find reality in general hostile.

IMO the BBC is too big to have a single monolithic political leaning. It will have pockets of left leaning culture & output and pockets of right.

Edited

Please see my update to that post I made re the BBC. About calibration and the conflation between news and programming.

Maybe, if you consider the bias checkers as being biased, then you might need some calibration.

Did you click the link and read it, or just go by the cut and paste I posted ? That site does appear to have human input, and is not just AI slop so far as I can tell. Or am I being biased towards media bias checker ?

Ain't that a conundrum.

PerkingFaintly · 07/09/2026 16:46

Yes it will be very important to see whether the drop is just a random fluctuation, or whether it's a trend.

And of course there are can be completely external events which affect numbers.

But a trend would suggest that something which is already being done is making a difference.

TopPocketFind · 07/09/2026 16:51

People who don't want to believe the numbers will never be satisfied.

Easy target for them. Officers were injured and vehicles were damaged in Portsmouth.

we are looking at the numbers that is why there is so little confidence in the government or joinging them in celebrating numbers dropping

what happened in 2025? its dropped this year so far but look at your chart again

if this chart represented inflation would you think oh great inflation has dropped this year at last the government had got a handle on this after the up and down flows of previous years

Very good point re the UN convention. And sorry for not posting links to evidence this claim, but something Reform do not mention is that money a state spends on refugees can be, and is, deducted from that states obligation to contribute a % of it's GDP on foreign aid to developing nations.

It's called in-donor refugee costs (IDRC).

In fact, I wont go full on Reform and not post evidence to back up claims. Here is a link.

In-donor refugee costs in official development assistance (ODA) | OECD

It's a complex thing, rather like tax law. Too complex for me really because it spans multiple treaties etc. So for anyone that doubts this is a thing, just pop IDRC into your search bar,

Maybe the Net Migration figures will be more convincing? Asylum seekers are only around 1% of the UK population.

We all know this isn't just about asylum seekers. They are just easier to target.
