Influx of far-right posters

Slightyamusedandsilly · 07/09/2026 08:57

Why has the site suddenly had an influx of far-right posters? Almost overnight.

Is this a concerted campaign by the black shirts from Dover, Reform or Tommy ten names to infiltrate women's SM?

Did you just refer to me as 'it'?

The trouble with illegal boat arrivals has esculated. This possibly increases the likelihood of conservative members voicing their opinion. There is more to comment on.

MN, to me, has always had a left wing leaning. All usually polite and decent to each other though. All respectful of differing views.

Are you noticing an intolerance of honest opinions? Who is intolerant of whom?

DestituteDesperate · Yesterday 08:35

On the first couple of pages alone, people against illegal immigration were called racist, thickos and worse.

Your post implied that you see 'merit based hiring' as different from recruitment that takes into account EDI. Most people who have positive views of EDI know it actually drives merit based recruitment.

I was merely observing that comments about merit being more important than sex or ethnicity (more emphatically from Boots than you IIRC) are very reminiscent of Charlie Kirk talking points, who used to get called far right for them, which I thought was ironic given the thread.
On the outside chance that you care about my opinion on the topic, I think EDI is usually well intentioned but should be approached with caution as you can easily create as much discrimination as you remove.

Given you have just called me 'it', dehumanising a woman who holds different opinions from you, you have no moral high ground.

SeriouslycanitgetWORSE · Yesterday 08:45

The good people of piddington have said the women could be outnumbered by 1/20 with the new male arrivals and that maybe will go to 1/27 if the areas is increased.
They are calling it ground zero in the battle for Britain and are trying to vote themselves out of the UK. They are looking at laws and even bringing bat conservationists into the fight.

I guess some of these rabid far rights activiists maybe have Infiltrated MN also in between meetings and tending their gardens

I am interested in your views on EDI. And thank you for explaining yourself.
CK was not criticised for advocating people be recruited on merit. No one but a fool would argue we don't want the best people for the job. He was criticised for his view there was no need for EDI as if left alone, the best people for the jobs would end up in them anyway.
Hewasn't criticised for wanting meritocracy, rather for insisting there was one. Which if we believe that, forces us to also believe that white men are disproportionately more competent, talented and able than other people, because their over representation in the top positions is based on their merit alone.

Yes not quite the extremists some paint them as. Times radio talking about Braintree having similar issues too.

Labour might see closing hotels as a win (in a typically myopic way) but not if it just opens barracks.

Burnham might want to spread those barracks to mc areas, politically it’s not going to help him.

So your mind jumped to some mad American lad, rather than Confuscious, Aristotle or John Stuart Mills?

Meritocracy (merit, from Latin mereō, and -cracy, from Ancient Greek κράτος kratos 'strength, power') is the notion of a political system in which economic goods or political power are vested in individual people based on ability and talent, rather than wealth or social class.[1] Advancement in such a system is based on performance, as measured through examination or demonstrated achievement.

If Aristotle was in the news because his killer was currently on trial for murder, I might have reached for him instead.

So you are basically suggesting the bias checkers are biased. Did you take the time to click the link I posted and work through what they said, or did you just see a trigger that caused a yell of "BIASED"?

Or if you disagreed with that bias check site, did you search for another ? And keep searching till you found one that agrees with what you think ?

Or did you do what I do. And say... hang on, maybe it is me that is biased ?

Because this is where I think calibration, and the scale used, is important. A few points either side of zero is nowt when measuring from -100 to +100, not in this context anyway.

Measuring bias is a bit like measuring a 200 mm length of wood, with non squared off ends. If I need a bit of wood about 200mm (+/-5mm) long, any old tape measure is fine to check if a bit of wood is ok. But you seem to be using a micrometer, you are saying this wood is no good because it is 199.97mm. It really makes no difference.

Oh come on the clownish Good Law Project conducting a poll of the kind of trans people who fund their mostly unsuccessful legal grifting is not credible evidence that the BBC has a right wing bias. If that’s the quality of the “evidence”… it was what you chose to copy and paste as some sort of statement.

And you know that was the specific evidence the bias checker based their conclusion on ? You know how they weighted that, and you know how they weighted what Trump said ?

The site I posted said slightly right. That was the first I looked at. And I explained in my posts that a few points either way means nowt. What is your judgement on the BBC ? Far left ?

I agree with you. However many of the very vocal anti immigration people have a hatred of 'the left' quite outside of the immigration debate. They are furious we have a Labour government and (correctly) see left leaning people as the barrier to their government of choice. They are here to drum up support for their own party and discredit the left rather than look for areas of agreement.
Its actually very difficult for a left wing person to engage in a discussion about immigration without having to wade through a slurry of posts accusing 'the left' of having caused or been complicit in the immigration problem, and when any failure to agree to all points is dismissed as 'not listening' which is 'a trait of the left' apparantly.
There are actually areas we probably all agree on, for example that the boats should be stopped and asylum seekers shouldn't be dumped into already struggling communities adding to the strain on their resources. But productive discussion is often blocked by this other agenda.

I personally see this happening from both sides on MN and everywhere on social media, as someone who doesn’t really consider myself left or right aligned. I’m more right of centre on some things and more left on others. It’s certainly not exclusively or even mostly the right that make sweeping generalisations about people they disagree with or disapprove of.

Not far left no, they are too tied to the government. Mainstream liberal left, which is lefter than it used to be.

And as I and several others said, you copying and pasting some GLP poll of trans activists from some random AI “checker” site as a gotcha wasn’t very convincing.

I'd have thought you'd have seen the underlying hatred of the government I was refering to a lot less from Labour supporters, for obvious reasons. For the most part, we are not driven by anger or a desire for an opportunity to malign the government. Again for obvious reasons.
I may be wrong, but I don't recall during the Conservative administration a slew of left wing posters blaming 'the right' for not addressing immigration. Despite the very poor track record the Conservatives had on this issue.

No. I was quoting from the bias checker, where they list some of the evidence they looked at. As in, what the bias checker looked at.

Quote from your previous post :" Not far left no, they are too tied to the government. Mainstream liberal left, which is lefter than it used to be."

So not far left then. How far left ?

Did you have a look, as I suggested in other posts I posted above, to check other bias check sites to find one that matches where you place them ? Where do you put them ? 10 or 15% to the left ?

Do you agree, a point or two either side makes no difference ?

Yes there was on visas, the threads on 700k in a year had a lot of posters who were angry, malign and had underlying hatred of the gov, to use your phrasing. Many pro Labour.

On asylum process that anger has typically been aimed at anyone pointing out the issues.

Fair enough, I said I might be wrong.
The more pertinent point is that I'm done hearing all this "Labour call us racists" "The Left call us thick" as though its all flowing in one direction and when told we get that too, all this wide eyed "I've not seen that..." BS.
I think on a thread where today I've been referred to as 'it' for politely questioning a self proclaimed Conservative voter, I reckon I've just cause.
And no, I don't think all right leaning people are dehumanising abusers of those women who disagree with them. Just that the abuse exists it was here on the thread until someone (not me) reported it. And its as alienating as the other way round.

I’m not just talking about immigration but a whole host of issues.

I was talking about immigration, as you see in my post. This issue is arguably the most high profile and divisive issue we have faced in some time. There are areas on which people are almost always in agreement, regardless of their different opinions on other aspects of social and economic policy, for example, that almost everyone wants the boats stopped. The compulsion by some to descend into left bashing doesn't help us achieve productive discussion, as left wing people either leave the conversation or fight back and we move from the practical to the ideological.
This was true to an extent in discussions on GI. I no longer visit the FWR board because I got sick and tired of being unable to discuss our shared concerns without having to wade through all the left versus right stuff. The final straw being a male poster there sabotaging discussion to blatantly plug Reform/Retore, insulting a rape survivor and calling women posters stupid. Which is a shame as I learned a great deal from the women on that board.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 12:30

I think your take on “the right” is pretty biased, personally. And no doubt you think mine is too. None of us are free of biases and I really don’t think the right on this site are any more tribal and unconstructive and sneery than the left. That’s my honest opinion. I generally like your posts, I agree with many of them. But I do think your bias is showing here.
