Has anyone else seen the news about what’s happening in Portsmouth this evening
A boat has arrived in Hampshire and the protesters from Dover are currently in the sea blocking passage with hundreds more on the quay blocking coaches waiting.

Stop twisting what I'm saying and inventing stuff.

That post you’re responding to is doing just that. Pointless.

Stop twisting what I'm saying and inventing stuff.

Lots of posts here, so sorry if I am confused.

You appeared to suggest the army should be used. Then when I asked if you want to use the army against civvies, you said no and pivoted to the "good bloke protestors" would sign up to the Army if the Army were to be used.

Personally, I am totally against violence, esp state ordered/sanctioned violence, triple esp against civvies.

Or better yet, for the government to introduce a process for Mr Asylum Apllicant to be put straight on transport to a 3rd (less appealing) country for processing.

There, the tiny number of genuine asylum cases (tightened up to mean only recognised individuals fighting an oppressive government, not men pretending to be gay...) can be brought back to the UK on a temporary refugee visa.

Refugee visas to be re-assessed every 2 years, and withdrawn when the country is safe enough for them to return. Safe enough by local standards - not necessarily a free democracy with full equality and rights like the UK.

Why does it always have to be a punishment process ?

Introduce an overseas application process and there is no need to pay 3rd countries to take people.
Put the funding and resources into processing applications

It deteriorating due to global economic decline, mis management of finances, the ramifications of Brexit, Wars started by foreign leaders (with our direct or indirect historical causation), the aftermath of a pandemic, and the division of our society which is being whipped by the media and by far right and left politicians who have something to gain for themselves from it. Migration, (illegal or legal) is way down the list of reasons our quality of life is declining in my opinion.

Im pretty sure we will never agree.

I’m pretty sure we won’t agree and I don’t think huge swathes of the population would agree with you either.

We really need an offshore processing space. We need to remove the carrots. And the more European countries take a hard line, the more will be making for Britain.

Couldn't agree with you more

Are you saying that is the UK army was to be used to machine gun the boats, or somehow drive them back, then these protestors would sign up to take the Kings shilling ?

I agree 100%. These guys are risking everything by going there to confront these criminals being brought in.

What are they risking??

Just to check, (even thought there might be disagreement over what should happen next) does anyone posting on this thread think that the people on the boat should not have been picked up and taken to another location to be processed?

Do we then all agree that the people interfering were wasting time and our money?

“Daniel Thomas, 37, was jailed for two years in 2016 after bursting into a man’s house with two others, armed with knives, and shouting: “You’re coming with us.”

They wrongly alleged that the man had stolen £10,000 of drugs from them in what the judge called an “extraordinarily frightening incident” matched only by its “stupidity”.

The Times on the man leading the activity in Portsmouth.

I do completely agree that stupid men are a problem.

So this Daniel Thomas, is he the guy that led the protest last night in Portsmouth last night? and he was released from prison just 8 years ago after spending two years at his Majesty's pleasure for a violent incident that occurred due to being a drug dealer?

And people are following this buffoon?

I thought this was made up so I've checked - yup, here it is in black and white . . . https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/danny-tommo-tommy-robinson-dover-portsmouth-migrants-b1296000.html

Who is 'Danny Tommo'? Tommy Robinson ally at centre of anti-migrant protests

Daniel Thomas was jailed in 2016 after an attempted kidnapping, but claims he has now turned around his life through religion

I’m a bit flabbergasted that someone is claiming that events which have been all over the media for weeks are not happening.

They do it ALL the time, much like when it was reported they were trying to withhold data on foreign criminals and I was told this was not happening. I produce a link directly showing this and crickets… tumblr weed… boarded a dinghy back to their ivory tower LOL

The situation should not have been allowed to arise where yet another boat of “asylum seekers” arrives on our shores.

Do we then all agree that the people interfering were wasting time and our money?

Do you not understand the concept of a demonstration?

But the boat exists and cannot be disappeared with magic.

Do you not understand the concept of a demonstration?

Yes. Lawful demonstrations aren't supposed to put anyone's life at risk.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 07/09/2026 10:35

Apparently there was also a "demonstration" at Poole Harbour in support of the Portsmouth debacle last night. The local rag is running a live blog.

No no no, of course the boat will disappear by magic.

That numbers are dropping seems to be over the heads of people who think a magic wand can be waved to stop the boats.

But “the government” are part of the British population too. They have to live here too. Why would they knowingly arrange to have a load of illigal immigrants arrive here and then have to deal with them, and the consequences of their behaviour?

Are you serious here, or deliberately trying to be disingenuous? Politicians live nowhere near were migrants are placed, and don't have to face the consequences of the problens they cause.

Oh interesting. Thanks for that, @alifesizefoamversionofapopularfrozenfoodstuff

Quite the career.

I'm sure he'll find people who agree with 5% of what he says, and that will be enough for them.

But whether he'll then lead them anywhere good seems unlikely based on his history.

But if the numbers went up, the right-wingers would be complaining.

Or would that be irrelevant too?

I don't consider myself right wing at all.
Are you saying it makes me right wing if, as a woman I am concerned about thousands of unknown males entering the UK illegally?
Does that really make me right wing? I think i'm being sensible in my concerns.

No, indeed. Concerted action is needed but it doesn’t look like this government wants to stop the boats.

I’m not aware there have been any deaths or casualties. Have there?

No I'm replying to someone else asking why the 'brave lads' aren't joining the Army. Because the Army isn't being used to deal with these boats (at least not yet). I am not advocating the Army is used, no."

That is the post I was replying to. See the first bit about "Because the Army isn't being used to deal with these boats". That is what I was seeking clarification on.

Then go further up the thread, and this

GentleSheep · Today 15:38
Maybe because the Army isn't being sent to deal with these 'small' boats.

piscofrisco · Today 15:28
It’s not a secret that our armed forces need recruits no. Why aren’t the brave lads signing up in big volumes then? They love ‘the country’ don’t they so you’d assume they’d be forming lines…

Seems rather suggestive to me that the poster thinks the army should be used. That somehow these "brave protestors" would be signing up if they were sent to deal with small boats.

Why do the French police stand around and watch migrants boarding these boats? Why can they not deflate the boat using a knife so the boat is then useless. There are reports that the French police are told not to intervene. Why is this? Why are we paying hundreds of millions to the French Government for them just to escort boats until they are in British waters.

ShakeMeUpJudie · 07/09/2026 10:47

The arrivals have been provided with pyjamas apparently.

The authorities are just saving them from drowning though 🙄

Good point. The posters using ‘right-wingers’ like that one have it wrong.
