Has anyone else seen the news about what’s happening in Portsmouth this evening
A boat has arrived in Hampshire and the protesters from Dover are currently in the sea blocking passage with hundreds more on the quay blocking coaches waiting.

To try and help them stop the boats obviously.

But they're not even trying to stop the boats.

They're bringing them in and giving them tents and gifts.

When the state won't solve the problem, what next? Certainly not joining the state bodies.

I live just outside Portsmouth and I watched the live streaming.
up until nearer the end, say until 1am, there was a lot of people with no masks, males and females of all ages.
there was video evidence of an older man getting hurt by the police which I saw. I heard there was something sprayed on the protesters but did not actually see it.
What I watched was actually peaceful. Which the UK populace is allowed to do - protest peacefully. I would bet good money that those of you ‘supporting’ the dinghies (it was more a boat) would rethink that if they were landing less than a mile away. Especially if you had children.
An illegal immigrant has just been charged with raping a 14 year old boy. In Portsmouth, no wonder tensions are high.
I have 3 children, I don’t want any more of these men who do not understand consent, arriving on our shores.
How on earth can any of you want these men here when they have to be given a leaflet to tell them that rape is not okay in the UK?

Where were your protests about our military being the same leaflet telling them not to rape women?

Just out of interest, do you have any HMOs where you live, or hotels housing these men? Not being goady at all, I am just wondering.

Do you see it everyday where you live? Becuase from what I have seen, unless people have experienced awful things daily, they don’t believe it’s true.

It’s unfair to call people uneducated or wife beaters. These men tend to be housed in areas of higher deprivation. I live in one of those areas and it’s very easy to stereotype the local people and call them uneducated and call them other names.

Edited

There are HMOs in my area and one on my street. Other than adding to the parking problem, no other issues. The issues in my area are from the indigenous population, not Muslims or immigrants. The locals at times try to whip up racial hatred which isn't specific to newly arrived people, but to anyone with brown skin.

Reform supporters are far more likely to have been charged with violent offences, ironically often against women (when one of their slogans is 'protect our women') than from any other political party hence the assumption of wife beating, although I would probably have been better to call it common assault, because that is technically more accurate.

Bullshot. Clearly you talk about it here because people are.

If you think supporting a bunch of absolute fuckwits out to cause trouble is a noble cause then at least be up front and honest about it.

They need to get a job and find better things to do on a Sunday night than spend taxpayers money with their fuckwittery in additional policing costs at the very least.

I've yet to see a coherent argument for them causing trouble.

It's not to protect their jobs, they clearly don't have them.
It's not because of the cost, they clearly don't give a shit causing costs.
It's not to protect women and children, a huge number have police records for assault on women and children.
It's n9t to protect free speech, see the reform conference images.

They are scum who need locking up.

It's not to protect their jobs, they clearly don't have them.

What’s your evidence for this?

It's not because of the cost, they clearly don't give a shit causing costs.

The cost of housing and supporting “asylum seekers” arriving on boats far exceeds the costs of policing this action.

It's not to protect women and children, a huge number have police records for assault on women and children.

What’s your evidence for this?

It's n9t to protect free speech, see the reform conference images.

Reform have disavowed the protestors. Richard Tice has called them thugs. For this and many other reasons, I don’t imagine many of the protesters will be supporting Reform.

So it’s your assertion that the UK Border force is not, in any way, trying to stop the boats? That in fact it exists as a sort of welcoming committee showering asylum seekers with gifts on arrival?

Seen some of the videos and I am absolutely disgusted.

The police using pepper spray on protestors who seemed to be peaceful.

One video showed an old man laying in the road after appearing to have been pepper sprayed.

In another it looks like RNLI crew throwing water at protestors who are already freezing standing the sea.

I can't imagine the police using pepper spray at Just Stop Oil protestors and if a blocked driver had chucked water over them, the driver would have got arrested for assault.

This country is absolutely fucked and we just let it happen!

You have actually seen genuine RNLI crew throwing water at protesters? I’ll believe this when I see an unedited clip of this myself

You obviously have no comprehension skills when I referred to the pets. Good day.

I didn’t understand the pets reference either. Please could you explain what you mean?

piscofrisco · 07/09/2026 09:01

What next indeed? Are you suggesting some sort of organised anarchy against the government then? A take over of the government agencies that you currently imply are acting actually against the nation? How do you think that will play out? Do you think any innocent bystanders would get hurt? Do you think your quality of life would go up or down due to civil unrest? And who do you want to be in charge when the brave lads bring down the government?

As an aside, once this is done and we have closed our borders, and we are officially only looking out for ourselves and not helping in other peoples wars etc, how do you think we will feed ourselves given our reliance on foreign goods? And what happens when that war that is nothing to do with us in Ukraine spills over and we end up getting attacked? Or will we be alright because the brave and bright boys from Dover or Portsmouth or Southport or Middlesbrough will be able to look after us?

At Dover and Portsmouth there wasn't even any litter. Many are saying that there was zero violence

Well that's bollocks isn't it.

''Two police cars had their windscreens smashed by protesters.'' - very peaceful.

The government and government bodies are not trying to stop the boats. They are waiting for them with coaches and tents. They are helping and encouraging them.

If you join an organisation which is helping people arrive on boats, you will helping people arrive on boats, not helping stop them.

Rubbish. There are more ways to stop the boats than letting people drown.
If that is what you think should happen to them, I have no words for you. That thinking utterly sickens me, and we are better than that.

That people can even think letting others die is a solution.

Fuck sake

Would you be ok with Labour’s barracks nearby, ie 1000 plus men as for Piddington?

I mean, they aren’t though are they? In the sense of the way you are describing it.
With this isolated incident in Portsmouth they had prepared after attempts were made by the French and us to safely stop the boat had failed, to deal with the people in a safe and organised fashion.

The operative words there are ‘people’ and ‘safe’. The alternative would have been to risk their lives. Is that honestly what you are saying would be better? I’m sure you will say they risked their own lives by choice-but at what point is it acceptable to actively endanger people or let them drown in your view?

They had to contain them on arrival surely? Or else you would be concerned they were running amock and untracked no?

This is what is happening, yes. Apparently there have not been boat arrivals at Portsmouth before last night. When the arrived last night government bodies were ready and waiting for them with coaches and tents.

sitandwait · 07/09/2026 09:09

Anyone got an archive link to the Times story about only 1% of asylum claims being genuine?

Tomikka · 07/09/2026 09:10

Rollingpinofdoom · 07/09/2026 06:08

But they are supposed to claim asylum in the first safe country. Which would be France no? So why would they need to come to the Uk? France is a perfectly safe country

No “they” are not

”First safe country” is part of the Dublin agreement which we withdrew from, and meant that an asylum seeker that has already registered in another EU country could be returned to that country

An asylum seeker under the Refugee convention may register their application for any country of their choosing based on where they may feel safe including where they may have family or cultural ties

MaturingCheeseball · 07/09/2026 09:10

It is a shame that we are having to have our concerns represented by an unpopular section of society.

I said on another thread that I have relatives in Piddington. They are ANGRY and DESPERATE that they are going to be outnumbered 3+ to 1 by undocumented men who will be able to wander freely - in the fields, in the playground, after dark… Men who need a leaflet to inform them of proper attitudes to women.

Everyone I speak to is against unfettered “asylum seekers” . The one pro-migrant person I know lives in the most affluent and nicest of places and keeps coming out with drivel about them all working in the NHS. Really? All these men arriving on dinghies being carers ?

EasternStandard · 07/09/2026 09:07

They are dealt with in a way that preserves human life first and considers asylum claims second.
what would you like them to do? Torpedo them? Shoot on sight?

@piscofrisconearly all the boats are intercepted and brought to shore. It’s not isolated.

Which is why we need to leave the refugee convention as soon as possible. There's no way it will still exist in 10 years time, let's save ourselves a bit of pain and leave it now.

piscofrisco · 07/09/2026 09:15

yes.
Do you not understand that if we close our borders, refuse to co operate or help with other nations, become isolationist, engage in civil unrest and refuse any immigration at all, that our economy and society will collapse and we will be fucked?
