Has anyone else seen the news about what’s happening in Portsmouth this evening
A boat has arrived in Hampshire and the protesters from Dover are currently in the sea blocking passage with hundreds more on the quay blocking coaches waiting.

Absolutely agree! This nonsense language that echoes the ‘brave boys’ who faught in wars is insulting to the actual real ‘brave boys’

I often wonder what would happen if there had to be a return to conscription. Im not sure many of these ‘brave boys’ would be first in line. Or would actually be fit for purpose to defend the nation as per the actual brave men who fought in past wars. They might enjoy the dressing up in the uniforms and the marching but after that I’d imagine they would all throw the towel in.

Hang on a mo.

Anyone in the UK can sign up for any social media. What information "most of us wouldn’t be privy to" are you referring to ? The sort of stuff that is a regular headline in The Mail ? The stuff that makes up something like 7 out of ten stories on GB news ?

Let me check Sky news.... oh look, yesterday it was Dover and today it's Portsmouth.

There does seem to be a thing where people who only use Twitter/X do not actually look at normal news. I don't have Twitter/X/facebook/TikTok etc. What information am I not privy to/aware off ?

Well, soon we will have 'trusted' news sources like the BBC pushed on us as Lisa Nandy wants the big tech companies like Meta, YouTube, TikTok to artificially boost those news sources above others in their algorithms and newsfeeds. Also if there's 'social unrest' then there would be mandates to direct users to 'verified facts'. If platforms refuse the government wants to take action against them. Did you know that? It's coming soon.

Yes - I was on one of the Arday threads where it was intimated I was far right because I took a stance similar to some others who were right and called bigots etc. As soon as I said I wasn’t white, the labels stopped but only to me.

Doesn’t that really piss you off though? I’ve had the same thing. I’m only a quarter Indian, but my skin is still fairly dark. Disagree with me, say it! Don’t be terrified of being called racist just because you don’t agree with me on something. It’s absolutely maddening.

@ShakeMeUpJudie used to be far left did you, aye?

Yes. SWP. It’s not an uncommon trajectory.

I think they would willingly fight against invaders in the UK but would be far less inclined to go to, say, Ukraine to help out there. Our own armed forces badly need boosting but I don't think that's a secret.

So asylum seekers coming across in small boats to the UK are eating your pets?

Absurd nonsense.

You obviously have no comprehension skills when I referred to the pets. Good day.

Yes, I made that point in the thread but I suspected I was talking to the same bots as some of their talking points was lifted straight from accounts on X.

They would shake around the issue or completely deflect

Do you? I think the minute they were asked to do something they didn’t fancy or that caused them a seconds discomfort, or were told they needed to lay off fags/gear/booze, they would be straight off home.
Just my opinion.

Basketcasebill · 07/09/2026 08:27

fashionqueen0123 · 07/09/2026 08:17

Except we know being able to doesn’t mean someone has to though.
So being on a boat doesn’t mean much tbh!

Also, to submit a genuine asylum claim, I am assuming you would have to provide things like birth certificate, passport, national identity card. Things that may flag up any previous criminal convictions that may stop the country you are claiming asylum in from accepting you.

It’s not a secret that our armed forces need recruits no. Why aren’t the brave lads signing up in big volumes then? They love ‘the country’ don’t they so you’d assume they’d be forming lines…

Wut?

I thought the "pets" thing by this poster must be a typo.

But from this post it seems not. Confused

Rather odd.

Hotsausage2 · 07/09/2026 08:35

I live just outside Portsmouth and I watched the live streaming.
up until nearer the end, say until 1am, there was a lot of people with no masks, males and females of all ages.
there was video evidence of an older man getting hurt by the police which I saw. I heard there was something sprayed on the protesters but did not actually see it.
What I watched was actually peaceful. Which the UK populace is allowed to do - protest peacefully. I would bet good money that those of you ‘supporting’ the dinghies (it was more a boat) would rethink that if they were landing less than a mile away. Especially if you had children.
An illegal immigrant has just been charged with raping a 14 year old boy. In Portsmouth, no wonder tensions are high.
I have 3 children, I don’t want any more of these men who do not understand consent, arriving on our shores.
How on earth can any of you want these men here when they have to be given a leaflet to tell them that rape is not okay in the UK?

Maybe because the Army isn't being sent to deal with these 'small' boats.

I had twitter. The Elon took over - it quickly became a cesspit. Lie after lie, racism rife. None of it corrected. Fake ID's, fake posts too, claiming to be true.
It was once a great site, it's now vile.

Don't get me wrong, the other one that popped up, bluesky? Just as bad but far left instead.

Anyone who takes social media as a legit source of news without checking facts is a numpty.

Threads is like what Twitter used to be

I see.
I think the UK border force has lots of vacancies though…. Perhaps they could devote their love of the country in service there?

Why would anyone in their right minds feel inclined to go and fight in Ukraine? In terms of motivation fighting in defense of the homeland is obviously a more powerful incentive than fighting someone else's war at the other side of Europe, I don't know what you are trying to say with this. Young men should join the army and leave these shores, while lots of immigrants can come in?

We're not allowed to talk about why. You'll have to use your imagination or head over to X.

Bullshot. Clearly you talk about it here because people are.

If you think supporting a bunch of absolute fuckwits out to cause trouble is a noble cause then at least be up front and honest about it.

They need to get a job and find better things to do on a Sunday night than spend taxpayers money with their fuckwittery in additional policing costs at the very least.

I've yet to see a coherent argument for them causing trouble.

It's not to protect their jobs, they clearly don't have them.
It's not because of the cost, they clearly don't give a shit causing costs.
It's not to protect women and children, a huge number have police records for assault on women and children.
It's n9t to protect free speech, see the reform conference images.

They are scum who need locking up.

Do you think it is wrong for social media to push verified facts ?

I agree that it is getting into Government overreach if we end up with laws about it. But at the same time, it is not black and white is it ? TikTok has taken quite a hammering after these 2 wrong way car crashes. Especially in Ireland. And if social media refuses to take social responsibility for anything, then unfortunately the Government might need to step in.

Why on earth would they want to go to Ukraine in the service of politicians who don't give a damn about the UK?

Politicians who also show time and again that they don't give a damn about our armed forces, even taking soldiers to court for free - arguing malicious, vexatious claims from enemy soldiers against our own soldiers who were fighting for us.

I think they'd probably rather stay right here in the UK and fight to defend their own country, as they see the need.

The main issue is there isn’t anywhere for them to get processed until they’re in the uk.

I think you will find that there was also a lot of local people, males and females of all ages who also attended the protest. And we are meant to be allowed to protest- we still have some free speech in this country, or would you rather that got removed by the state?

You seem to be missing the point here. Why would men opposed to the small boats join state bodies which aren’t stopping the boats?

piscofrisco · 07/09/2026 08:49

To try and help them stop the boats obviously.

piscofrisco · 07/09/2026 08:51

I mean, demonstrably they are stopping the boats in greater numbers than ever before, and presumably if they were fully staffed they’d be doing even better.
Why would the brave lads not want to contribute in that way?
