any mess is a bad mess but what is the worst thing from your kitchen cupboards that has spilt? i was reaching for something the other day and an opened packet of chia seeds came falling out. now, if you know chia seeds, they are very small and do literally go everywhere! following them a packet of pumpkin seeds decided to join in and spread itself everywhere!

Full bottle of olive oil. Smashed on the hard floor tiles, oil and glass went everywhere and took an age to clean up.

CointreauVersial · 02/09/2026 14:58

Chia seeds here too. Went everywhere....and the little buggers stick like glue to anything with the slightest dampness to it, so the moment I reached for a cloth I was doomed. I'm still finding them.

My dad used to brew beer. That exploded once. My worst was probably a hidden potato that had gone very, very bad.

I wasn't going to write anything as I didn't think I had anything bad, but this has reminded me of the elderflower fizz on top of the fridge exploded one morning. Went everywhere and was so sticky. I thought I was degassing them enough, but apparently not. Never used glass bottles again, just plastic.

Not a cupboard but worst thing I've spilt,or rather dropped, was a can of drink. Who knew a fizzy drink could reach so far, including my newly painted ceiling 😞 It's dried to almost nothing but I know the marks are there 🤦😔

Sherararara
Blood.
I keep the bodies in the freezer now.

😂😂😂👏👏👏 (unless you’re not joking🤔🤔🤔)

Big jar of instant coffee
10 litres of tangerine emulsion in the footwell of my car.
I pulled away, it fell over and the top shot off.
It all happened in slow motion

Turmeric. SOMEONE didn't put the klippit back on the packet.

hourspassed · 02/09/2026 15:47

Not exactly spilt, but I opened my cupboard and a glass jar of herbs fell out.

Landed right on top of my (not very old) glass induction hob. Smashed completely! Fuming 😫

minipie · 02/09/2026 15:52

Cous cous and flour. Was finding traces for months after.

I still remember my mum dropping a full bottle of olive oil when I was young, it was a bugger to clean up but when I think back I realise it must also have been blooming expensive.

Guiltypleasures001 · 02/09/2026 15:54

An extra large glass jar of marmite , you have no idea 😬

crackofdoom · 02/09/2026 16:01

I used to make my own wine and store the bottles on their side in an upper cupboard. Cue a pop one evening and the cupboard seemingly pissing itself as a bottle full of sticky dandelion wine trickled out...

LondonLass2026 · 02/09/2026 16:04

One of those red/cherry Pepsi cans fell from the very top of my tall fridge, it burst open, and it honestly looked like a murder scene. All over the cabinets, fridge door, washing machine, floor, you name it.

So sticky too. It took a LOT of cleaning.

Lomonald · 02/09/2026 16:10

I dropped flour from a great height it fell into a pot of boiling water and all over the kitchen worktop, total pain to clear up. Eggs are also a nightmare OH and oil! I am very clumsy.

RaraRachael · 02/09/2026 16:18

We had a bottle of Friar's Balsam that spilt from a cupboard. Not only did it absolutely stink but was so sticky we had to use several different cleaning products to get rid of it.

CoodleMoodle · 02/09/2026 16:27

Not at home but someone bumped into me at the self checkout in Sainsbury's and I dropped a very big jar of sliced beetroot in vinegar... there was a purple stain on the floor for weeks Blush

DM once dropped a bottle of vegetable oil in her kitchen and it went everywhere, even over the cat. Mostly just his tail thankfully but he had to be washed and felt very sorry for himself for a few days!

Just had to clean up tamarind from my fridge shelf - sticky af!

Oh no every time you went by you must have died a little!

A 5L bottle of oil. That was wretched.

I've had to dispose of dead mice which were full of maggots. Makes me shudder to think about it.

Maggots are grim, just looking at the things makes me heave. After my dad passed away we were clearing out the garage and in his fishing tackle was a tin. Opened it gingerly and it was full of dead flies. The maggots in there must have hatched out and been unable to escape. Ewwwwwwww.

Blueuggboots · 02/09/2026 16:48

A litre bottle of toffee vodka.

TheLambtonWorm · 02/09/2026 16:51

Yeah, oil is the worst because it spreads and, no matter how much fairy / elbow grease / degreaser you use it still makes the tiles like black ice.

Soy sauce bottle smashing wasn't fun either, it went fucking everywhere. Even the ceiling and we have high ceilings 😭

BertieBotts · 02/09/2026 16:56

Rotten potato. If you've ever smelt one, you'll understand.

<gavel>

BEAchDays2 · 02/09/2026 16:57

A can of alcohol free Guinness, the explosion was unreal, and there is still some on the ceiling

Judysdreamofhorses · 02/09/2026 17:00

Had a cat litter tray liner split all over the back step/just inside the kitchen door when I was changing the litter once. That was pretty gross to clean up.
