What did your parents say when you asked what’s for dinner?

Inspired by the thread about words used in different areas of the UK,
what was the stock answer to ‘What’s for dinner?’ in your house?
In our house it was “Ham, jam and baa lamb”. In my friend’s house it was “Shite with sugar on top”.

Omg i feel like a missed out. Gonna have to do this from now!!

I’ve never heard these phrases before. I don’t recall my mum saying anything other than what we were having for tea. She certainly wouldn’t have said ‘ shite’!

Wait and see pie

My Dad (a cockney) used to say bread and pull it. My Mum used to say air pie and windy pudding.

“Sawdust and hay, sawdust and hay , that’s what we’ve got for dinner today” . That was from a 1960’s watch with mother program called “The wooden Tops “. My mum used to say it and my husband says it now as his mum used to say it too.

Yes, the Woodentops ☺️ I was born in the 80s but I had a VHS tape of Watch With Mother which I loved. And my mother always said ‘What shall we have for dinner today? Nothing today but sawdust and hay’
