What did your parents say when you asked what’s for dinner?

Inspired by the thread about words used in different areas of the UK,
what was the stock answer to ‘What’s for dinner?’ in your house?
In our house it was “Ham, jam and baa lamb”. In my friend’s house it was “Shite with sugar on top”.

Chopped straws and hairy bacon.

Sawdust and hay!

Food

Cup of hot fat or cat food

Shit shite and sugar 😂

If my mother was making dinner and I asked “what are you making?” she would say Faces.

Strangely I can't remember asking! Being brought up on Vesta Curries and boil in the bag sweet and sour chicken I generally hated food anyway! Exception was home made soup with dumplings, that was a weekly highlight.

When I ask DH though it's"shite with sugar" so presume thats what his Dad said to him.

"I'll let you know when I have figured that out"

Don't remember what I was told but i tell my kids now. Dinner is for dinner ala the Jen Brister stand up bit.
