What did your parents say when you asked what’s for dinner?

Inspired by the thread about words used in different areas of the UK,
what was the stock answer to ‘What’s for dinner?’ in your house?
In our house it was “Ham, jam and baa lamb”. In my friend’s house it was “Shite with sugar on top”.

My mother was a little more refined - it was 'S & S' and that was it!

Like it or lump it- my son said I’ll have lump it, please!

I must admit I am a little taken aback by the number of people posting who got a foul mouthed response to a perfectly reasonable question from a child.

My dads Glaswegian and my mum is from all over, but no NI 😂

We knew it was a joke! We weren’t stupid!

Wait and see pie, with washing up for afters.

Some of these answers are hilarious and very imaginative!

no - what she means is that she is shocked by the use of the word shit. In whatever context. That was not a word I ever heard from either of my parents.

I didn't need to ask.

Monday was salad night.
Friday was fish and chips.
Saturday was casserole.
Sunday was roast chicken.

And so on.

Run round the table and a bite of each leg.

My mum used to say, “Faces!” God knows where she got that from. I’ve never heard anyone else say that

Me neither. Bloody was the only swear word I ever heard my parents use. We were solidly working class but my mum hated anything coarse or vulgar.

Mother was of the opinion that swearing was acceptable as long as it wasn’t directed at someone. She used to get very worked up about other words though and had a list of banned words on a chalkboard in the pantry.
