What did your parents say when you asked what’s for dinner?

Inspired by the thread about words used in different areas of the UK,
what was the stock answer to ‘What’s for dinner?’ in your house?
In our house it was “Ham, jam and baa lamb”. In my friend’s house it was “Shite with sugar on top”.

Air pie and a run round the table or kippers and custard.

Ice cream, pickles, and jam

A kick at the pantry door!

A walk round the table !

Poop on a stick!

This or wigwams for sailors

My colombian grandma would say "Puntas y tolondrones para los preguntones." There isn't a literal translation but it means something like smacks for the nosy ones 😮

Always, shit with sugar on and fried arseholes! 😂

My Irish mom used to say “Cat’s malackey “ (self explanatory )
or “ Coccosal “ ( donkey poo )
we never thought it was odd ! 😂

Shite with sugar on it… still said to this day! My 7yr old says it if anyone ever asks

I would get told by my Mum what was in the oven, and I’d better eat it or no pudding. (This was the 80s & early 90s). Happily I really liked the food my Mum produced even though she hated cooking & she thought she was a bad cook.
At 16 I started making my own meals & it was just not the same.

"A surprise!" ... usually because my mother (she did not get the cookery gene; she got the ironing one instead!) didn't have the faintest idea of what to make when we came home!

We had the same weekly menu we always knew what we were having so never asked so have no funny responses, I feel deprived....

My mother would always tell us what was actually making for dinner because she always knew what she was going to cook. She worked to a tight budget and would meal plan in advance.
I never came across these smart Alec answers until much later.
