That’s so frustrating @BIWI

Happy Anniversary @BIWI

Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition.

Valencia is gorgeous. You will get there.

placemats · 08/09/2026 22:19

I'm going to book Málaga for my holiday next year.

Zonder · 08/09/2026 22:30

Happy anniversary @BIWI

Sorry if I've missed this somewhere but does anyone know if anything is happening to the bloke who hit the protester with his walking stick? Or any of the other reform thugs caught on camera?

Karistyleaftea · 08/09/2026 23:10

Happy anniversary @BIWI
and sorry to hear that your trip was cancelled, so frustrating trying to speak to anyone and get it sorted.

itsgettingweird · 09/09/2026 06:49

Sorry to hear about your trip BIWI. Happy belated anniversary. 🥂

I hope you manage to get a refund easily and can book to return soon or somewhere else equally as lovely.

There are some batshit threads out there this morning. My advice is to steer clear.

DuncinToffee · 09/09/2026 08:59

The conspiracy theorists are out in force.

I had a look at the one with the very long title

Bonkers, but "at least they know what a boat is" made me laugh.

Yes, that made me smile too. Apart from the ridiculous arguments, I couldn't handle the excessive use of exclamation marks so early in the morning!

On the Portsmouth thread someone (not even a suspect poster, a regular poster) has actually said the migrants should have been left to drown once they were in British waters, because they refused help when in French waters. That's where we are at.

BIossomtoes · 09/09/2026 10:07

Happy anniversary Mr and Mrs BIWI. ❤️

cardibach · 09/09/2026 11:02

My cousin’s trip to Seville was cancelled due to the air traffic issue to @BIWI
She says the airport was absolute chaos and by the time it was all sorted she had to stay in the airport overnight because it was too late to travel anywhere else.
Shall endeavour to avoid batshittery but I’m having an easy day - overdid it in the gym two days running and feel a bit battered!

So we build our wall with foreign dead,
If not in the sea, then in our head.
When mercy shown is struck down dumb
And evil rises as mothers succumb

or something like that

Happy anniversary wishes @BIWI such a shame the trip was cancelled & then the stress of sorting out logistics hope you get it sorted quickly.
such inhumanity Temperance truly shocking.

SerendipityJane · 09/09/2026 12:09

As a(nother) example of "who uses MN ?", I am amused by the seeming total lack of interest in the shocking BBC front page story about the imbalance of divorce laws.

Something to bear in mind if you think MN is in anyway a cross section of society.

Protestors confuse Pakistan cricket team for migrants as they gather outside Portsmouth hotel for nothing.

I never thought the day would come when I’d agree with Philp, yet here it is.

The idea presented in the article that any group of non-white men should have to prove that they aren’t asylum seekers in order to stop a mob targeting them is very, very scary.

This has happened before and will continue

Madgewick justifying the actions is to be expected from Reform

Attended an SUTR meeting yesterday -it’s the time to act for sure is the feeling and decision.

If anyone lives near Sheffield and is interested in attending a counter on 26/9 please PM for details. We are concerned about this protest after Dover, Portsmouth and Doncaster - we need numbers ramping up for this and across the board - obviously a lot to do and we focus on actively building unity as well as reactively counter protesting.

This is national as well of course though so please, if you can, see what is also happening locally if you’re of a mind to support.

I’d never normally put this on this lovely thread but it is getting very serious now - obviously I appreciate active stuff is not for many folk and that’s ok - but anything including debating, sharing stuff - every little helps.

cardibach · 09/09/2026 13:19

This made me realise I hadn’t seen much from my local SUTR Facebook group. Assumed the algorithm, but no - nothing posted since March. I’ve tried Hope Not Hate - nothing since June. Not sure where else to look for local actions/campaigns. Any ideas?
