I love David Attenborough and Hugh grant.. they really are national treasures.

I have to agree that rowan Atkinson is extremely creepy and dumping his wife for a younger model means I can’t find him funny at all anymore, he just looks like a twat to me. Same with Ewan McGregor, don’t want to watch him since he dumped his wife.

I can’t stand Bob Harris. The name dropping and boring anecdotes really wound me up. I was so pleased when Shaun Keveny (sp?) took over the Sounds Of The ‘70’s’ radio show.
radio 2 seems to give god like status to Bob now that Johnny Walker has gone.

@Manhattanman he was 50 -51 years old cast with 17 Year old Michelle Johnson as his lover, as she was a minor at the time of filming, she and her parents required legal court permission for her nude scenes in the film. 🤢

I find it hypocritical that he has accepted and retained a knighthood while simultaneously performing outrage at colonialism and empire (hence my inverted commas around the word ‘Sir’). For avoidance of any doubt, I find the honours system abhorrent, and think he (and everyone, actually) should have the moral fibre to boycott that system rather than trying to peddle this ‘reform from within’ nonsense. It is a system whose foundations and lifeblood are empire and colonialism, and I don’t believe you can have this particular cake and eat it too. Hope that clarifies.

I saw a show advertised at my local theatre for The Prat Pack - Bradley Walsh, Brian Conley, Joe Pasquale and Shane Ritchie doing anecdotes and swing numbers supported by an orchestra and I did tell my husband that if anyone bought me tickets for those four "national treasures" I would never speak to them again!

We own a debt of honor to the brave men of the Gurkhas and their families. Many of them have laid down their lives in the service of the UK over many years and were paid a pittance. They deserve to live here unlike many others. It’s not their problem regarding the housing situation.

Sean Connery, I could not understand the adulation in his lifetime, and the praise that flowed when he died! Including from a lot of men and women on the left who call themselves feminists. Then I remembered he was a passionate Scottish nationalist, so he was probably the right kind of wifebeater.

True! Why is she even à talking head at all, urgh! Someone is in favour of her, but I can’t think who or why, she seems to be benefitting from the urge to put stupidity in front of the camera all the time, to normalise low standards.

As someone said above, there’s a very broad definition of ‘national treasure’ being applied. I think the person needs to have been around in the public eye for 50 years or so and 70+ and be a ok person before treasure status could be applied.
Therefore a good example is Judi Dench. Even though I can’t stand Attenborough, he’s the type as well.
If any of them has any seedy in their past then they’re automatically disqualified. So the pool is very small!

Well if you already found him creepy then this film will just have confirmed your opinion but I don't think he's especially creepy in BIOR. To be honest it looked like he phoned his performance in from elsewhere. Regarding whether he needed the money, he appeared in a lot of crap in the eighties purely for the money (see his famous comment about appearing in Jaws 4). I'm guessing that was his motivation for appearing in BIOR rather than the opportunity to share the screen with a naked teenager.

I like Gyles Brandreth. I had little opinion until I listened to his podcast and it feels like the type of conversation I’m glad still takes place.

Ewan McGregor though, he just seems to play himself every single time. Sometimes that feel appropriate when a character just like him is needed but every time he’s in something it feel like there’s a story being told and it has EM wandering about in it.
