I really like him for his advocacy for women’s tennis too

Yes I think he was quite immature when he started out but then he was quite young.

he also loves his dogs so he’s clearly a good chap

Norwaygirl · 31/08/2026 08:57

Ladygodalmighty - no not joking, as I said I find Olivia Coleman perfectly pleasant on chat shows but she plays exactly the sane part (herself) in whatever role she is in.
Dollymylove - I agree about Carol "Chippy Chipmunk" Vorderman. For an intelligent woman she doesn't half think the rest of the population is stupid. It's obvious she has had extensive plastic surgery. No issue with that at all, it's her body, her money, her choice but pretending she hasn't had any is just plain lying.

Ah - I used to be on the fence about Andy but then realised that he is very funny, has an excellent ability to laugh at himself, has no arrogant self-delusion at all, and is a stalwart champion of female tennis players. I have an enormous amount of respect for him.

Agreed, his dry sense of humour is right up my street but his defence of female tennis players makes him top level athlete for me

Why is Mary Berry rage bait? She is incredibly smug and patronising yet thinks she is the nation's sweetheart. I turn channels when she appears on telly because I hate her so much.

MIL doesn’t like her one bit, similar age and MB was something to do with the “Gas board”

MB is very smug, agree with a lot of the comments here

Definitely the right Mary. I find Mary Beard's delivery really difficult and just can't listen to her.
That said ... I can't stand Mary Berry either!

Fair enough. 🙂

We don't all have to pretend it's so marvellous but we all need to support the principle of health care being free at the point of delivery. The system is broken and that's largely due to the administrators of which there are too many. When hospitals were run by nurses, with matron at the helm, Britidh health care was first class. We need to get back to that and get rid of all the expensive pen pushers.

I applaud the principle of the NHS and many of the fantastic people who work within it, and yes, there are many centres of excellence - of course, it’s not actually free; we all pay for it, just like we pay for our state school places - but what we have in the 21st century is an overall terrible service which attempts to offer everything and fails to deliver on much.
It’s like having a parent who all your elders keep reinforcing is a marvellous cook and who you remember making you decent meals when you were a young child, but now you are a teenager the quality is variable and meals are served whenever they feel like it, often inadequate and frequently skipped. But despite your malnutrition you continue to extol the belief that they are a fantastic cook and get offended if anyone says otherwise. Our population gets so carried away on a tide of nostalgic pride when the NHS is mentioned that they can be Animal Farm-style manipulated (I’m talking to you, Dominic, you visually-impaired Cummings). Having lived in two other countries and experienced their non-free but sliding-scale affordable healthcare I have seen the alternative. We have NHS hospital storage rooms full of new equipment gathering dust because no one has been trained to use it, high absenteeism, funding of non-essential niche issues when they could have gone towards actual health conditions, some of them life-threatening; poor hygiene, low quality infrastructure, a lot of low quality staff whose English is so poor they cannot communicate with their colleagues or even enter data correctly, agency staff who get paid significantly more than their permanent colleagues, layers of unnecessary management. NHS dentist anyone? GP appointment? A&E waiting time? The shocking state of our maternity facilities and aftercare? In our area if your child cannot attend school because they cannot walk due to an ingrown toenail ‘you will have to go private because we don’t do that anymore’. Sorry? What do we do when we are in pain and urgently need an operation, like my 75 year old neighbour who was told he would have to wait at least 8 months in agony and unable to sleep? We scrabble around in our savings and our children/parents chip in and we go private. So we pay twice. It is an outrageous state of affairs. The NHS in the 21st century is a national embarrassment. No rainbows.

Tirtytreeandaturd · 31/08/2026 09:28

Jack Whitehall. Sanctimonious prick . Endlessly wittering on about being posh - no one cares . And as for the wedding 🤦‍♀️

Noel Fielding with his oversized jumpers and eyeliner and creepiness

They were allowed to come and settle in the UK following her campaign unfortunately, no thought was given by Lumley and her pals as to what that might mean. The majority settled around Aldershott, the old army town. A town that was already struggling With housing etc

I stayed at a B &B run by a Gurkha in York last year. It was an impeccable establishment run with great pride. He told me how grateful he was to Joanna Lumley and is obviously a hard working man paying his way in the UK.

janespantrydrippers · 31/08/2026 10:12

Hugh Grant

WestwardHo1 · 31/08/2026 10:15

Loads of posters are just naming famous people

2dogsandabudgie · 31/08/2026 10:15

The majority of the celebrities on this thread aren't old enough to be a 'National Treasure'.

Or famous enough. Someone mentioned they don't like Ranvir Singh for heaven's sake.

EamonnFyre · 31/08/2026 10:42

Stephen Fry
Miriam Margolyes
Dawn French

SuperFi · 31/08/2026 10:42

Michael Caine - gives me the creeps. Blame It on Rio ( ‘comedy’ about a middle age man having an affair with his friends teenage daughter) would not be made today.

Stephen Fry - for the same reasons pp have stated.

Richard E Grant- just so fake on recent TV documentary and heard too many stories of him being a twat,

Scraping the barrel here, Richard Coles ( formally Rev Richard Cole)who I suspect would like to think of himself as a National Treasure. I think he only became a Rev to raise his profile and think he should shut up about his poor deceased partner.

I feel like Fielding is hiding in plain sight.....

browneyes77 · 31/08/2026 10:45

I’m so glad I’m not the only person who can’t stand Sandy Toksvig.

Both her and Jonathan Ross try way too hard to be funny, when they’re anything but.

How have I read 5 pages with no mention of Jamie Oliver?! I don’t know why I dislike him so much but I do!

Also Jeremy Clarkson is a vile human being. Racist, sexist, violent arsehole who bought a farm for tax purposes and is pretending to care about inheritance tax on farms?!

Oh god yes!! I can’t abide Jamie Oliver!!

I used to like him when he first started out. Even bought his cookbook. But then he got on his high horse and started to try and get everything banned.

And someone said Lenny Henry. Again I used to like him back in the day, but in more recent years he’s become such an irritating twat banging on about reparations.

Whilst I agree that Blame It On Rio would struggle to get made today, it's hardly Michael Caine's fault - he was just a paid actor taking a role for the money. He didn't write, produce or direct the film. It's crap anyway and no one really remembers it except for the creepy element. Early role for Demi Moore though so notable for that.
