There was an interview with Russ Abbot in one of the papers - he just retired around retirement age and is living in Portugal or Spain with his wife of many decades

I wonder if the problem with a lot of these wannabe NTs is that they don’t know when to stop

As someone whose son was killed by the NHS and whose grandmother had her wrong hip replaced by the NHS and whose sister is a fantastic NHS nurse I completely agree with this. I hate the NHS and how we all have to pretend it’s so marvellous when the Emperor has no clothes. The inefficiencies alone are mind-blowing.

We don't all have to pretend it's so marvellous but we all need to support the principle of health care being free at the point of delivery. The system is broken and that's largely due to the administrators of which there are too many. When hospitals were run by nurses, with matron at the helm, Britidh health care was first class. We need to get back to that and get rid of all the expensive pen pushers.

I think an insurance based model such as the one they have in Germany might be good

I see, agree re French. I'm not sure how much agency the public have in who does the news or whether they fell for Bruce's shtick exactly. French used to be funny imo but isn't now.

the fact that Bruce remains 'in situ' indicates to me that the public have fallen for this vapid fraud. these types - Bruce, French, Toksvig -are just awful 🤢. agree on the traitorous Koksvig re. 'trans'

Me too. Such a false get.

True : I think if someone's around for a long time in the public eye their traits are amplified. Sometimes that's good : Dolly Parton is a good example of someone who remained popular as she retained her humour, generosity etc
Whereas people who were annoying to begin with become more annoying and spoilt. As they sense popularity fading they may try harder to stay in the public eye.

Andy Murray- what has he done?

Oh you know just the constant whinging when he used to lose and slight tantrum behaviour. Granted as he got older he did grow out of that abit but yeah, still nah.

William Roache (Ken Barlow)

For what's worth, saw him in a motorway services awhile ago. He was very humble with star-struck staff.

Jeremy clarkson

I agree with this and I now think slightly less of friends who bleet on about Clarkson's Farm.

Yea, I loathe her.

Alison Hammond
Davina McCall

Davina McCall is meant to be a very down to earth, kind and caring person in 'real life'. No one has a bad word to say about her.

Can't stand Alison Hammond. Can't understand her success. She's boring and talentless as well as deeply annoying.

so many managers are previous nurses
i dont think that makes it really any better
they are still trying to be managers

Nope-I’ve always disliked him much to everyone else’s chagrin.

Ah - I used to be on the fence about Andy but then realised that he is very funny, has an excellent ability to laugh at himself, has no arrogant self-delusion at all, and is a stalwart champion of female tennis players. I have an enormous amount of respect for him.

I wouldn’t call him a National Treasure tbh

BeardofHagrid · 31/08/2026 07:29

All of the BBC ones especially Attenborough. Can’t wait for some allegations to come out and get him cancelled one day (yeah right lol).

Why does Princess Anne always seem to get a free pass out of the Royals? I'd put them all in the bin and she is as bad as the rest of them, with her self importance, vicious dogs and ridiculous dressing up box of pretendy military stuff.

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins- I don’t know which one winds me up the most but I think Mel edges it. Just don’t get their popularity at all.

Definitely Sue - absolutely so smug and unfunny.

Susanna Reid - dull

Kate Garraway - her ditsy, simpering shtick is doing some heavy lifting.

Do you mean Paige is physically or morally hideous?

I think it's awful to dislike someone due to their appearance. If you mean her character, I have read stuff online about her being mean. That's obviously wrong, I do think she is a great performer though.

Morally obviously!

KimWexlersPonyTail · 31/08/2026 08:10

Jane379 · 31/08/2026 00:28

Why is her Gurkha campaign unpopular? I'm interested in the issue.

They were allowed to come and settle in the UK following her campaign unfortunately, no thought was given by Lumley and her pals as to what that might mean. The majority settled around Aldershott, the old army town. A town that was already struggling With housing etc

I really like him for his advocacy for women’s tennis too

On this note, Lucy Beaumont’s schtick of being completely thick is so irritating. I know we are supposed to find her hilarious when she flames out on Mastermind but all it makes me think is why did she not prepare at all for it. She is either lazy or so developmentally delayed that she should not be on there
