Sandi Toksvig...I mean she's ok..but personally she itches my tits.

That wasn't Kate Winslet, that was Helena Bonham Carter.

I think you are ruled out as a national treasure if you are basically interchangeable with 1 or more others

Totally agree. He has made my flash crawl from his debut.

I can't stand Tony Robinson. Totally overrated as a presenter. As soon as he appears on the screen I have to turn him off before he starts bellowing as if he doesn't have a microphone. He knows FA about archaeology. If I heard him say 'high status' ever again, I would boot the telly through the wall.

For a second, I read 'Tony' as 'Tommy' and was horrified. To be fair, I suppose there are some people who see Yaxley-Lennon as a 'National Treasure'.

That horrible story Miriam M keeps rehashing about wanking off two or possibly three flashers she came across in a wood. Or some such nonsense. Revolting person.

That story doesn’t make her sound fun and liberated, which I think was her intention, it makes her seem mentally ill.

I don't think that they are all that interchangeable. I instantly recalled the Cathy Burke smackdown, the whole exchange was highly memorable. I don't know how the previous poster got it wrong, but they clearly have poor recall.

Lulu
NIgella Lawson
Cliff Richard
Judy Dench

Total agreement until Judy Dench (love her)

AbacusCat · 30/08/2026 18:11

I'm split on Stephen Fry. I like his acting but I don't like him as himself - presenter/host/guest etc. I'm sure he's a decent fellow, but he's too self-consciously pompous and avuncular.

Blueink · 30/08/2026 18:15

Duos like Ant and Dec, Richard and Judy

Marellain · 30/08/2026 18:15

Oh Kathy Burke… no, no thanks. All the cos playing that she’s not actually a luvvie with tons of money is such patronising schtick.

Panda69 · 30/08/2026 18:17

Alison Hammond.. and amongst people i know,im definitely not alone...she was ok in big brother, liked her early stuff interviewing stars on this morning. Which then unfortunately led to them giving her bigger role, and others jumping on her band wagon....and she is now smug, self important, and has totally lost the charm she once had...and not a good presenter! Am sick of seeing her. Can't watch the Batasie dog home program anymore...And poor Dermot who has had to carry her presenting on this morning...while she says stupid things smuggly like "you are copying me.." when he danced, when Dermot is rather we'll known for liking a tune two and dancing!!! .....and because her couple of interviews with stars in which she was likable and fun caught peoples attention years ago, everyone on TV says she's lovely when her name comes up,but have noticed with alot of them, those words don't match expression in theirs eyes, and tight false smiles when saying it!....So very hate seeing her smug self importance, and her lacking in presenting, boring and cringe as hell. .........and breath!....thankyou OP for posting and letting me vent

Marellain · 30/08/2026 18:20

@Panda69 totally agree.. have to change channel when she appears. Surely someone else could do a better job, she’s getting paid a ton and has no redeeming features afaics!

Aubin7 · 30/08/2026 18:21

Shufflebumnessie · 29/08/2026 19:35

Stephen Fry - having had the displeasure of meeting him, he really is the obnoxious, pontificating individual that I though he was.
David Walliams (not sure he's a "treasure" anymore though!). He & Fry both make my skin crawl.
David Tennant - sanctimonious prick!
Romesh Ranganathan
Miriam Margolyes
Davina McCall
Sally Phillips

Agreed about Davina McColl. Although I don't think she's a National Treasure. I used to think she was an idiot and it was confirmed when she made the comment - people with periods. For goodness sake! It women can't support women, then no-one will.

HereWeGo1234 · 30/08/2026 18:37

Nigella Lawson (too up herself)
not NTs but
Ranvir Singh (never stops talking)
Trinny (full of herself)

FlipFlopVibe · 30/08/2026 18:41

Emma Thompson. I’ve said on here many times. She’s a raging hypocrite and I’m looking forward to the day everyone realises what an arse she is

RaraRachael · 30/08/2026 18:43

OverVerdant · 30/08/2026 17:58

Yeah Lulu isn't a NT. She clings on wherever she can but is way past her sell by date.

I'm sure she had a farewell tours a couple of years ago called Champagne with Lulu or similar yet she's still releasing new stuff.

David Attenborough 🫣

oooh, you're brave! 😅

Jellybubbamama0987 · 30/08/2026 18:51

Patrick Mower. Served him in a petrol station and when I asked him how he handled people whispering and nudging each other when they saw him he answered in a very sanctimonious tone “when you’ve been in the limelight as long as me you just get used to it” mate you’re in Emmerdale, not Hollywood movies, get over yourself. First and last time I ever acknowledged a famous person, they got treated as
just another person. However saying that Barbara Dickson also used the petrol station and she accidentally locked her keys in her car, she was lovely to deal with so I’ll always be a fan of hers for that

MaddestGranny · 30/08/2026 18:52

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 29/08/2026 18:48

Stephen Fry, although as already said, I’ll never tire of watching him as Jeeves.

Miriam Margoyles - very pleased with her opinionated self.

I be ready to go along with Miriam Margoyles as I agree with many/most of her political opinions.

However, I'm a bit tired of her bragging about her farting. Please. Just sprare us.

Couldn’t agree more

Agree all that false laughing and she def staged the falling over the worktop on bake off but surely ,she’s not a NT well apart from in her own head!

spottybelly · 30/08/2026 19:21

There's no way most of the names mentioned here are national treasures.

I love David Attenborough, you can't have him! His decades of footage turned abstract, distant ecosystems into something millions of people came to know, love, and fight for. Without that awareness, there's no public pressure for conservation policy, no funding for protected areas, no cultural shift towards caring about endangered species or biodiversity loss at all.

But yeah, Paddington's a twat. And Dawn French too.

BriarTime · 30/08/2026 19:22

Richard Osman: insincere, and there’s no way his mediocre books that seem to arrive with the frequency of planes into Heathrow would have got beyond the slush pile if it weren’t for his existing profile.
Alexander Armstrong: Countryside Alliance supporter, calls himself ‘AA’ and ruins Classic FM.
Stephen Fry: the age gap thing isn’t not creepy just because the partner is the same sex.
Martin Lewis is much-ballyhooed, and I can see that he’s done a lot of good, but something about him feels off and I’ve never been able to put my finger on it.
Hugh Laurie is also surprisingly venerated for someone who blacked up in the 90s. As a nation we do seem to have very selective memories sometimes.

The only one I’ve seen mentioned who I feel inclined to really defend is Mary Beard. I’ve met her several times over the years, and she’s very funny, very wise (not just intellectually), and pretty indefatigable all things considered.

Downton Abbey.

Who decides who is a treasure anyway, must be someone with a sense of black humour.

When 'they' decided Cheryl tweedy was a national treasure. Still can't stand the vacuous bint.
