Similarly, the new BBC campaign with Romesh Ranganathan telling us to be so grateful for everything they have done for us is a misfire.

Because 1) the quality of a lot of what they were highlighting is terrible (Eastenders etc) and 2) we paid for it!

hattie43 · 30/08/2026 06:23

Agree with @Screamingabdabzon Miriam Margoloyes. I think she actually says some foul and nasty things but people think she is hilarious because she says “cunt” in a posh voice.

This . I think she is just nasty .

Why has noone mentioned Giles Brandrith. He's intensely irritating

Oh god I can’t stand him. Always name dropping and talking about himself

Joanna Lumley ????
Noooo way.
She's fab. So worthy of National Treasure status.
😊
X

Joanna Lumley is an insufferable townie idiot who feeds foxes on her property and encourages them into urban areas. People won't think she's quite so funny when one of them rips their baby's face off for sport.

MrsToothyBitch · 30/08/2026 07:00

Most of the people mentioned here for me. Glad to see I'm not the only one who dislikes smug, whispery David Attenborough! Otherwise my strongest dislikes:
Ricky Gervais
Steve Coogan- has always absolutely made my skin crawl.
Michael McIntyre
Romesh Ranganathan
Simon Pegg
Greg Davies- I'm sure it's an act but I find him genuinely unsettling/ threatening.
John Cleese (poor actor)
Jeremy Vine - so much oil he should be drilled
Stephen Fry
David Tennant - again, threatening
Miriam Margolyes - vulgar
Mel Giedroyc - simpering
Sue Perkins - I've seen her on panel shows being over competitive ans almost a bit of a bully
Helen Mirren - can't put my finger on it
Olivia Colman - one note actress
Amanda Holden
Lulu
Lucy Worsley

HambleTheDoll · 30/08/2026 07:03

That’s dreadful Miriam and Amanda Holden.

PinkMagpie · 30/08/2026 07:03

I find James O’Brien insufferable! Such a pompous windbag. Imagine putting out a book entitled ‘How to be Right’ 🙄

swimsong · 30/08/2026 02:41

Greg Davies?

Ditto

Yes to Greg Davies! He looks like a bag of potatoes wrapped in clothes and I hate his humour.

I really like Romesh but cant bear the "what has the BBC ever done for me" ad. Mainly because they have given him a massive amount of airtime , and presumably paid him well for it! (although tbf hes on loads of channels and his own podcast as well)

Exactly! The entitlement is off the scale. Anyone would think they were making content for us out of the goodness of their hearts.

imagine if a company like Marks and Spencer’s made an advert telling us to be grateful that they had been in business for however many years. We pay for their service, we don’t need to be thankful

EnterQueene · 30/08/2026 07:29

Princess Anne - every one toadies to this self aggrandising woman who wears ridiculous cod military uniforms from the dressing up box when shes never seen active service- or indeed had to do a days real work.

Bibs23456 · 30/08/2026 07:31

Miranda Hart she behaved appallingly to the Military Wives choir once.

What did she do, if you don’t mind me asking?

ruffler45 · 30/08/2026 07:35

I cant think of anyone that has been left out at the moment😂

David Attenborough 🫣

same here. Not a terrible hatred or anything but will turn over when he’s on. The reverence towards him is odd, bit captain Tom like.

Cambridge educated man from extremely good background is brought up in circumstances with connections which allow him to pursue a career based on his interests. Good for him of course but he’s treated like the messiah in some quarters.

TorroFerney · 30/08/2026 07:47

6ate9 · 29/08/2026 18:49

Same! He is an eco-hypocrite!

Filming Life on Earth and Planet Earth required decades of global flights, resulting in a massive personal and production carbon footprint.

Agree it’s a bit oh yes I know I did it but you shouldn’t.

Bornfreebutinbiscuits · 30/08/2026 07:50

Emma Thompson too smug !
Miriam margoyals
Judi dench

I seem to have missed that one!

The Ken Bigley one where he was held hostage in Iraq and the captors were threatening to behead him. Connelly asked the audience if they wished his captors would "just get on with it"
They did indeed kill him. Of course its not Connelly's fault they did,it was just an absolutely horrible thing to say when the man's family were suffering so much.
Connelly defended his comments as Freedom of speech.

Maybe others agree with him but it turned me off him for ever.

I first saw Billy Connelly more than 50 years ago and have been a big fan ever since but that comment took my breath away.

I didn’t realised he’d doubled down on it, especially when he could have said I have ADHD and sometimes my tongue just runs away with me - I’m sorry.

TorroFerney · 30/08/2026 07:47

Agree it’s a bit oh yes I know I did it but you shouldn’t.

It is easy for someone who has already seen the world, and is now a centenarian, to tell younger generations not to fly or to cut back on travel.

He has at least admitted that some of his own eco-habits are forms of middle-class hypocrisy.

He’s not generally liked though is he? I thought most people considered him to be an insufferable twat. If he is liked by most then he would probably be number one on my list, even overtaking David Tennant (which takes some doing in the Cnut-Olympics).

purplegrinch · 30/08/2026 08:16

David Tennent and Stephen Fry (wasn’t keen anyway but then they made their views on women’s rights clear)
Sheridan Smith

BeardySchnauzer · 30/08/2026 08:20

I think you’re being a bit unfair on Attenborough as he has spoken about how his generation contributed to the problem and praises younger generations for their work in the area. He seemed thoroughly embarrassed about the fuss made on his birthday.

PP mentioned there seemed to be more women on the list than men but I don’t think that’s true. I can think of more women that are considered national treasures than men.

the worst though are the ones who believe themselves to be national treasures when they’re really just dickheads (MM for eg)

purplegrinch · 30/08/2026 08:22

If we are allowed to name dead people then John Lennon. Why do we laud the man- he hit his wife! Is it ok because it was ‘only once’?

Wiseplumnet · 30/08/2026 08:26

MyThreeWords · 29/08/2026 18:58

I don't think this one is actually allowed, is it? I mean, isn't dissing him a bit like murdering gorillas or melting glaciers or something?

😂

ErrolTheDragon · 30/08/2026 08:30

BeardySchnauzer · 30/08/2026 02:12

I’d say about 90% of the people mentioned aren’t national treasures tbh

joanna lumley and her stupid garden bridge cost London an unnecessary amount of time and money

Yes - I don’t even know who some of them are. Many of them are just showbiz slebs of some sort.
