I'll start with British Gas, awful company, very expensive and customer service is non existent..there is a reason they have lost a few million customers of recent years, close second place is EE for similar reasoning.

That sounds horrendous - but then the government (all of them) always treat disabled people and those with serious medical conditions as inferior, the same as most people in general society do. At the very least, they treat it like your medical condition is both your entire identity and your passionate hobby, and you really couldn't possibly have anything else important to do like 'normal' people would.

In the same way as many people (and again, the government) clearly consider people who claim disability benefits to be pretty much the same as benefit fraudsters and workshy people, I reckon they probably mentally lump those who have to push to get their licences back following a change in medical circumstances in with those who have lost their licences for drink driving, speeding and other dangerous behaviour: "Well, maybe you should have thought about that before you....... became disabled through absolutely no fault of your own".

I've been fortunate enough not to have had my licence taken away and to fight for it back; but I do have to apply to renew it every three years - thankfully always accepted so far. People will call me pathetic for objecting, but I really resent the fact that they officially term it a 'short-term licence'. It's just another way to put disabled people in their (inferior) place. My licence is not short-term; yes, it has to be periodically reviewed and renewed, but the entitlement lasts for as long as I wish to and am fit to keep it... but as far as the authorities are concerned, it's a very special little favour that they benevolently hand out for a little while to substandard people who should be immensely grateful for it for as long as it lasts.

Exactly!!!

And the irony was that I couldn't go back to work without it...

Well, that's one way of looking at it, and you are the only person who has ever suggested it was unreasonble of me, I think that the circumstances were exceptional, I dropped my phone while breaking away from a man who had just violated me.

I can understand how stressful that would be. However, honestly, I also think the company did a good thing.

Evri.
Lost my parcel, complete nonsensical & random tracking updates described by their nonplussed customer service as the parcel being 'stuck in a loop'. They couldn't give a shit.
Parcel finally turned up 2 weeks later, battered.

Never again.

Our Evri driver once piled all the parcels outside the local cake shop. I've yet to discover if there was any collusion here (well while I'm here anyway... 🍰)

Treemouse · 28/08/2026 21:35

Natural Baby Shower - the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Ordered a really expensive mattress - it was delivered over a month late (no communication at all on shipping despite many requests). When it eventually turned up the mattress was open and damaged - took another few weeks of chasing to get a replacement

The company I work for.

Putting customers at risk via allergen contamination and ingredients not being safely stored. Not following trading standards laws and cutting corners in almost every area possible.

Have you reported them to the FSA?

ilovemykindle · 29/08/2026 19:09

British gas. My late mum had a balance of £347 in credit. At the moment it's been reported to the ombudsman so waiting for that to be sorted. BG have tried to say that's what mum owed. There is proof that she didn't owe anything. And they don't care. I have a list of 12 names of people I have spoken to. Grrrrrr

Halifax bereavement service was terrible.

Yet United utilities (water) mum did owe £42.74 and they wrote it off.
Sky (telephone)
Were all so kind and helpful.

Pizza Express because they were really petty over a voucher when we spent about £200 - couldn’t use the voucher because 7 in the party and the voucher was for percentage off 6. We didn’t ask for it off the whole bill for 7, just for the 6! They said if one had sat at a different table and ordered separately we could have had the discount. Even the customer service team wouldn’t budge. Needlessly petty and I’ve never been there again and never will. Still fume about it now a couple of years later whenever I pass a Pizza Express

Zizzi did exactly the same to us!
It was particularly annoying as it was 6 adults and one 2 year old, we only ordered a kids meal for him as we thought it was a bit cheeky to feed him food we'd brought with us. The booking was for 6 people as he was in a highchair!

Hedgehogsintheorchard · 31/08/2026 14:19

Medivet. For the damage they’ve done to my dog, treated her appallingly & charged over £1000 in the process 😡

Malbecfan · 31/08/2026 16:58

This is a great thread!

British Gas, Scottish Power and Ovo: all liars with appalling customer service.

BT, Talk Talk, Home Telecom, RWG Mobile and EE: all overpriced and shit service. They also talk crap if you can even get through to their customer “service” teams.

Wetherspoons, Dyson, Warburtons for their support of Brexit.

Amazon & Starbucks because they don’t pay tax on their profits (and their stuff is shit)

Shein, Temu & Primark because their stuff is very poor quality made in sweatshops.

NatWest for being lying fuckers. Barclays for almost losing our house purchase until I kicked off big time in a city centre branch in front of loads of people. Lloyds are just terrible.

Evri: no need to say more!

Nestle: the baby milk scandal of the late 90s lives on here.

Lloyds Pharmacy: thick liars. I watched one assistant berate a teen who needed & had been prescribed urgent medication. Teen was crying, miserable assistant was enjoying her power trip. She then lied to me about the prescription I was collecting so I complained to their Head Office & the NHS. They were shut down and a much better local pharmacy took over. Zero regrets.

Bristol Street Motors: patronising liars. The Renault they supplied had no end of issues. They gave zero fucks. I bought a VW instead which did 125k miles with zero problems.

Toby Carvery: took away my unfinished meal when I took my (then small) child to the toilet. People at our table told the waiter not to take it but it was ignored. When I complained, they barred me but did refund my meal.

The next 2 I cannot boycott as they hold a monopoly but they are deserving of mention.

National Grid: lying, sexist, patronising bastards. Assumed I know nothing about electricity. DH has a PhD and listened from the next room then quietly put them straight. Oh how we laughed as they attempted to backpedal.

South West Water: shit-dumping, water-wasting, over-charging tossers

Definitely. I too will never use any practice owned by them after a recent dreadful experience.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/08/2026 17:06

Anyone who funded or heavily supported Brexit, the exception being Weatherspoons.

Projectprincesschaos · 31/08/2026 17:08

Local post office for rudeness - at least make eye contact and come off phone

TUI - I just don’t have the words to explain how utterly pathetic their customer service was - they are trained to tread water gaslight. Have illogical advice about a booked holiday

Local chippy - it always smell sharp fishy smell. Fresh fish or clean premises should never smell like that - if knocks me sick about once a week or so when I am at the neighbouring shop

Cannesdo · 31/08/2026 17:20

Unfortunately I have to use them but Virgin in Ireland have gone all AI on their phone line. It is utterly sh1te.
Why can’t we speak with a human being 😩😢

Neveranynamesleft · 31/08/2026 19:35

Tui. To be fair have had some great, cheap holidays with them but when I book a twin room I expect a twin room with 2 beds not a double. Was very late at night and my friend and I were too tired to make a fuss so made do and next morning we were able to move rooms as the hotel wasn't full. Apparently, according to Tui, it was my fault for not checking directly with the hotel that we had in fact been given a twin room and not a double. That's a new one on me.

ProudBlackMomma · 31/08/2026 19:37

Snag tights - awful company that panders to the rainbow cohort

janj52301 · 01/09/2026 18:50

Octopus Energy, we got a smart meter as they offered a really cheap night tariff then after they installed it they said that was only if you had an electric car. Damn thing has never worked properly, they stopped billing us last August and that was out fault apparently as we cancelled the DD and if you cancel your DD they don't bill you, HOGWASH. Then the decided out day/night rates were the wrong way round as we were using so much electrify at night, yes, the dishwasher, the washing machine, the emersion heater, they are never used during the day. Ended up with some ombudsman, as soon as it's sorted we're out.

DallasMajor · 02/09/2026 09:30

Vodafone, Vodafone Vodafone.

I hate them, I am in a loop of doom with them. Overcharging bastards.

Optimisticdramalarma · 04/09/2026 16:04

Snag tights for flogging foul badges and believing men who have lady feelz are real women but real woman can fuck off if they don't agree-i switched to better tights

The post office down the road from mils old house (thankfully she moved when we lost fil)
It's the only shop in her village (the next one was a car drive away) and the bloke that ran it was so utterly foul I vowed I'd never shop there again
I only went in for a twirl and left almost in tears
The trustpilot reviews said i wasn't the only one

Dandeloosha · 04/09/2026 17:33

Dyson. That anti-British arsehole can take his overpriced and oversold products that suck and blow and shove them where the sun don’t shine. Give me a Henry any day.

icursethemallout · 04/09/2026 17:37

My local fish and chip shop. About two decades ago they offered me a job, I was so excited, then on the day I was due to start they rang my mum while I was at school to say the person who had been interviewing me didn’t have the authority to hire, and she had just been practicing interviewing. I was heartbroken

DaisyDukesAuntie · 04/09/2026 17:37

Sykes holiday cottages - horrendous service , raised a complaint 3 months ago still no answer

Not exactly ‘used’ but won’t donate again to the RNLI after their actions in supporting criminal activity by helping trafficking gangs in ferrying illegals from French waters to the UK.

You should look into their finances - the people who put their lives at risk on lifeboats are volunteers - the people that are in the offices have gold plated pensions and very little work

Daft.

I live on the East Kent coast and I am glad that we have an RNLI base and that they are here to save lives at sea, whether they are local swimmers, sailors or refugees.

Or are you suggesting human beings should be left to drown?

I don't know how people reach such a level of cruelty.

The RNLI are neutral and don't have any say in asylum claims it is up to the Home Office to process people once they have been rescued.
