I'll start with British Gas, awful company, very expensive and customer service is non existent..there is a reason they have lost a few million customers of recent years, close second place is EE for similar reasoning.

Amazon. Appalling treatment of workers and the environment. Not used since 2017. Don't miss them tbh.

Electricsausages · 27/08/2026 10:22

@BlueDillieDillie yes it has been banned’ however it still goes on under the guise of ‘scent trails’ however badger holes are blocked, cubs (dug out of dens) caught and thrown to the dogs to dismember, foxes chased relentlessly till caught and ripped apart

Give me Ryan air over Easyjet any day. They scammed us out of £600 in covid!

Come to think of it, EasyJet scammed me in Covid too! I'd paid £60 for a flight and they refunded £20. I requested the other £40, and they agreed I was owed the money but never paid it.

RyanAir also scammed me for £40... in the days when they still had desks at airports we paid extra for desk checkin rather than online checkin. In between booking they removed the desk option but never refunded our fees.

So they're neck and neck. Grin

It was Easyjet flexible flights ,which were totally inflexible even though they charged twice as much for them!

Daily Mail, after their appalling treatment of the Cambridge academic Jason Arday. Stopped reading that day and I would say I feel much better for it!

Presumably you are also boycotting the Guardian for the same "crime"

SwirlyGates · 27/08/2026 10:35

@MagpiePi I still boycott Nestle too, though it hasn't broken them yet! It's harder these days though as they own so many other brands. According to Wikipedia they own over 2000 brands in 186 countries!

This one is a bit niche - and sadly there's no real alternative (unless you also use a pump), so I have to keep using them - but the Libre 2 continuous glucose monitors are absolutely appalling for reliability. They're supposed to last for 15 days, but very, very few of them ever last that long before they shut themselves down - which of course they put a positive spin on, about monitoring for quality and safety; many of them fail on the first day. It makes it really difficult to manage your own medication when you have no actual way of knowing how many days' supply you actually have. If you get given 4 of them to last for two months... well, is that 60 days' worth or could it end up being 8 hours' worth?

I hiss under my breath every time I see one of their adverts, going on about how simple they are when, if you ask anybody with diabetes who uses them, they fail constantly and for no apparent reason at all. When they work, they are indeed amazing - credit where credit is due - but they just seem to work on the basis of charging a fortune (I gather the NHS pays £40-£50 a go) for something that probably costs them pennies and then sending out replacements every time people take the trouble to contact them to complain and answer lots of questions. If you ever hear that they've gone into making aeroplanes, run!

Mine very rarely fail, sounds like you've been really unlucky.

I donate to Macmillian instead.

I work in palliative care and have seen the misuse of MacMillan funds. I think most charities wouldn’t stand up in close scrutiny!

I won't donate to MacMillan anymore after having dealings with them when a close family member was dying. Their tv adverts now make me sick. No caring nurses came our way. Marie Curie weren't much use either but at least they were polite, whereas MacMillan were downright dismissive. Once our relative decided not to have any further active treatment, she, and we, were pretty much abandoned by the NHS and the charities were no help either. It was an awful few months. I'll never go to another MacMillan coffee morning again.

That's just silly. It was nothing to do with them that the phone got broken and it was not their fault. I think they went over and above their obligations by sending you a new phone. They sound like a brilliant company and you sound like an unreasonable customer.

Well, that's one way of looking at it, and you are the only person who has ever suggested it was unreasonble of me, I think that the circumstances were exceptional, I dropped my phone while breaking away from a man who had just violated me.

Limth · 27/08/2026 11:09

Our local greengrocers because the woman is really rude. They went out of business last year. Good. Fuckers.

M&S because they let men in women's changing rooms. I know other companies do too but M&S particularly fucked me off because of how much they dug in, and their total failure to understand their core market.

The Body Shop because of how they treated JK Rowling.

Har246 · 27/08/2026 11:11

PayPal! Had some fraud on my email and contacted them straight away as three transactions had been taken. They agreed two transactions were fraudulent but the third wasn’t even tho the payments were within 10 minutes of each other! Took months of calls and messages to sort out.

Village Hotels! Horrible experience! And found the staff to be rude

Cotopaxi · 27/08/2026 11:31

I shan't be using Currys/PC World again. Not after the nightmare shambles they made of sorting out my laptop which had gone in for repair. They wiped it clean without backing it up first.

why the fuss about Albert Bartlett
There has been no Fox hunting for years. It was banned completely by a Labour Government

Oh my word, there's lots of fox hunting, they just try to cover it up under all sorts of guises. Just follow any sabateur group on Facebook or wherever, and they'll tell you the truth. It may be 'illegal' but you can bet your life the bastards are still at it

It’s still legal in NI.

Plus you can still use hounds to flush out a fox (then shoot it) or drag hunt (hounds chasing a scent). I gather the hounds can easily pick up a real scent when drag hunting and the toffs on horseback are none the wiser, then it’s “oh dear how sad never mind” when there’s a kill.

We have to trap the foxes that enjoy decapitating our ducks and pay someone to take them away. I couldn’t give a toss if someone wants to charge after them with hounds tbh - it sounds much more efficient, and they’re dreadful creatures.

Yes it's awful. I also forgot to add that most get either a cleaner and a driver provided or an allowance for both. This is not what people's donations are meant to be spent on.

Ffs. Unbelievable.
I don't think people in NGOs should work for peanuts but it also shouldn't just be another fucking gravy train

How did that even work? That sounds like the actions of a backstreet money lender rather than a big bank - not that I am particularly any kind of fan of the big banks!

I could understand if they didn't care/realise to inform you about registering to receive your interest tax-free, if you're not a tax payer (although surely this should be a matter of course for a children's account); but actually just helping themselves to a large chunk of your own money that you deposited? Wow! That's surely nothing other than fraud and theft?

They swore it was tax
Never again-i gave up (I was 15 and didn't know any different)
Hate the place

Another vote for Natwest.

Issues from the beginning, like not adding my student overdraft properly, and also sending my details to my estranged father.

sashh · 27/08/2026 12:22

Virgin media. Is there any customer of theirs that doesn't have a horror story?

The post office, I watched the van park up, the postie come to my door and put a 'sorry you were out' card through the door.

This is a few years ago, I had a subscription to one of the DVD rental places (before Netflix). The DVDs started to arrive a day late and the envelope open.

One Sunday I was getting a coffee and saw a guy walk up to my door and put the DVD through. No one gets post on a Sunday, someone was watching my DVDs.

Body Shop.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/08/2026 12:28

Heinz. First, they changed the gluten free mini sausages in the beans and sausages to sodding Richmonds and then, despite saying it's simply not possible, poisoned me with their standard beans.

After the number of years I've managed to not get myself glutened, I know damn well that if I'm crying, sweating, shitting and puking all at once twenty minutes after my only meal of the day - a plain jacket potato with beans - it's not going to be the fucking potato that's caused it.

And Currys (not that they'd be bothered) missed out on many thousands of pounds in household goods and consumer electricals after the third time (I'd given them the benefit of the doubt, they were young men, maybe they hadn't noticed l was actually trying to buy an expensive TV/Computer/entire kitchen's worth of appliances/whatever 'from a real person so they got the commission' rather than paying the same somewhere else) that the staff had deliberately blanked me - and on the third occasion, walking practically through me - in favour of attending to men who wanted to buy things like a £5 toaster or a 512k SD card.

I actually got an apology and a £50 voucher (I gifted to somebody else as there wasn't much chance I'd be able to spend it, after all) when I contacted them with a copy of the purchase receipt from the Comet next door showing I'd just kitted out an entire house from scratch.

Other than that, I still harbour a grudge towards Ocado for failing to accept that I was clinically vulnerable during Covid so I couldn't get deliveries as I'd done for the previous decade - Sainsbury's did, though.

Tesco - worked on the property supply side. Their behaviour to suppliers was appalling.

Tesco as well. Dreadful customer relations in our local Tesco - a really rude under manager. When I politely and quietly made a comment about the store layout, I was so dumbfounded at her reaction that I didn't note her name tag before leaving. I then wrote an equally polite letter to head office and received a terse one sentence reply. I've not been in our local store since, and if I visit another Tesco (a rare occasion), I pay cash and don't use my Tesco card. They won't know but it makes me feel better !

That must have been very frightening and it's not surprising you dropped your phone. However, I think it's unreasonable to expect the company to send you a new one. I am surprised you even thought to ask and impressed that they eventually did.

Given that i urgently needed a working phone so that the police, CPS, my support worker not to mention my friends and family could contact me and that the circumstances were highly unusual it does not seem an unreasonble request to me. Then factor in that I had been a customer for about a decade with no problems, the fact that 3 is worth several billion so a good will gesture in unusual circumstances . I had a really nice email from their head office saying that mine was an exceptional case and they were more than happy to help me. The reason I left when my contract was up was the way the initial rude and callous response saying that it was my fault the phone was broken. Hope this has clarified things for you
