Misandry and Mumsnet

Is it acceptable to hate on men openly without apology? Would it be ok of it were the other way round.

As a woman and mother of sons, the attitudes and comments on MN border on hate speech and I think Mumsnet HQ should do something about it.

Is this really how we want to balance the scales?

If I met your sons on the street how would I know that they don’t hate women? Or would it be prudent of me to safeguard myself because statistically I know men as a class, are dangerous.

That’s what we’re talking about. Stop being offended on behalf of your sons. If they’re as good as you say they are they’ll understand where women are coming from.

'men as a class, are dangerous.'

'Men as a class.' A class.

I think that says it all about your level of intelligence.

Men are a class. The sex class of male. You must have heard that before...?

Excuse me? What’s with the insults?
The fact you’ve resorted insulting me rather than debate issues says a lot about your level of intelligence.

We use the term ‘class’ to denote sociological factors when discussing men or women as opposed to simply biological factors. Men’s behaviour is driven by societal concepts related to gender and that’s what is being discussed here. So ‘class’ is an appropriate term to use.

best ignored everyone.

No, because like most men, they don't hate women. Try to think about how insane and ridiculous you sound. I actually don't think you can be a real person.

You're right. Men don't hate women. They actually love women so much. So much so they control, dominate, dictate, claim ownership and destroy them.

Dd is 14. On a bus ride home in broad daylight, she and friends were sitting near the back.
A bloke ("about dad's age", so 50s) decided that, in spite the of the bus being almost empty, he would go and sit next to her friend.

It's shit like this that pisses us off. His employer's name was emblazoned on his polo shirt, so clearly he didn't give a fuck what he was doing or that he'd be called out for his, at best, creepy behaviour. And I bet he says he doesn't hate women.

Edited

This has happened to my DD this week too.
Middle aged men, going for 14 year olds because they are more vulnerable.

A good marriage is beneficial to women during the years they may wish to have and raise children. May men want children too so go quite happily into the arrangement.
Where things change is in later years when the balance shifts and women have greater independence, no longer need a co parent etc. Women in middle age are less likely to slow down than men and a man can become a bit of a drag.
If the man wants to retain his relationship through these years, (and we know that being alone in later years is disadvantageous to men who are more likely to suffer isolation, depression, health issues and addictions than men in relationships) then he needs to have built a strong foundation of reciprocal input and loyalty with his partner.
Basically, if he's rubbish when he should be useful he can't expect the care and companionship he needs when he's less so. So it's absolutely in his interests to learn what he needs to do to be considered worthy of a woman's long term investment and compromise.

Indeed, so men might read that on MN and choose to avoid saddling themselves with a woman who likely is only interested in him while there are kids around and he serves a purpose. (and as Mumsnet tells us women are better off without kids as well for all the reasons stated over and over. Mental load etc.) And he likely won't want to be a drag on a specific woman in his older years, and avoid marriage and kids for that reason. Alternatively if he doesn't mind being a drag on someone then those selfish men can marry later.

The important thing is that mumsnet means men can hear this stuff direct from women and make an informed choice. So misandry or not it's better that it's out in the open.

...and yes all this applies to women as well - it's just as useful for women to hear about men from the perspective of women.

HauntedBungalow · 26/08/2026 11:51

I agree with you OP. The problem isn't violent men; the problem is women talking about violent men.

nonoono · 26/08/2026 11:53

Taztoy · 26/08/2026 11:25

I was raped so violently and humiliated so much as part of that rape that I can’t describe it on here.

It is deleted as it’s too upsetting for other people to read.

I’m so sorry @Taztoy 🤗

MaggieBsBoat · 26/08/2026 11:54

As a mother of 3 sons I have no problem with it. I can absolutely see why women hate men. Likewise as a white woman I’m not taking to task any black person who has issues with white people because of racism. White people reap what they sow.
MEN REAP WHAT THEY SOW.

I wanted to email his (biggest in the area) employer. Or fb shame him. But the sensible part of me took over.

It's a shame dd isn't the type to shout:"urgh! What you doing? You paedo". But I've told her next time it happens, because it will, she gets up and moves. Ideally tells the driver she feels uncomfortable. No decent bloke chooses to sit by teenage girls.

And as a woman with sons, I bet you'd be shocked what you (may) hear your son's say when you're not in earshot and out with their mates or how they treat women when you're not about.

Nearly every mum thinks their sons are gentlemen. If that were true, there would be very little issues on how men treat women badly.

Sorry hurty words hurt you.

WildGarlicSoup · 26/08/2026 11:19

I am sorry that you life has been made traumatic by men.

Mine has not but I wouldn't be around any man for 1 second who made my life that way.

You would have if you had been born into it as many, many female babies are.

KaleidoscopeSmile · 26/08/2026 12:00

WildGarlicSoup · 26/08/2026 11:20

Raked? I think you mean raped? A very rare thing to happen. I actually don't know anyone who has been raped. I DO know a person who lied about someone raping her and almost ruined his life. Admitted she lied just before going into the court for the trial.

So you're saying that you don't believe the rape stat but your little anecdote about one woman proves something universal about women?

Rape - "a very rare thing to happen". You disgust me.

Wow, so LSE teaches its students that rape doesn't happen? Do they have a Santa Claus programme as well?

So let's be plain. You're making a little threat that if women don't stop complaining about men on MN, then men will read about this, come to the conclusion that women will complain about them should they marry one, and decide to avoid marriage? And that women will as a consequence not have a man to marry, which will be just desserts because they weren't satisfied with men's 'offer'?

And apparently means you haven’t come across the concept of gender as a class. 🤯

Mischance · 26/08/2026 12:16

Unfortunately many of the scenarios that arrive on mumsnet are about men who it is entirely reasonable to hate.

I have 6 grandsons and they are a true delight - young men with principles and caring values. I tear up just thinking about them. I am so proud of them.

Not at all.

It wouldn't even work as a threat because, as stated above, Men gain more from marriage than women.

I don't agree that it's "complaining" either. It's genuinely held views based on experience.

I'm saying it's great that women's views are public so men can see the drawbacks of marriage and children from the perspective of women so everyone see the hard facts. That's the opposite of "stop complaining".

So no. 100% not.

Is this real?! Rape is RARE?

I know someone who lied about being raped. However nearly ALL the women in my life have been subject to some sort of sexual abuse, from being groped to flashed, raped to gang raped. If the women in your life aren’t admitting this to you, this is an issue with you and your attitude.

Hold shit, imagine thinking rape is rare. Where have you been? With your head in the sand?
