Does anyone else feel the UK is heading towards a crisis?

Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Rant over.

My daughter has asked me to share this (she is 21):
Almost every time I get harassed, it has been foreign Muslim men. Not saying Caucasians don’t do this at all but it is far less common.
Sometimes it only takes me to get out the car for them to call something over to me and I will have to sit in my car, lock the doors, and wait for one of my male friends to collect me.
My best friend is Iranian and says this is a silent takeover and when enough are here ( and remember that they usually have a lot of kids with the same ideologies) one will come into power and strip us of our rights as women completely, just as it happened in Iran 1979.
Even without one in power YET and the number of these foreign Muslims not even finished rising, Islam is being promoted in our society including SCHOOLS through eg Ramadan celebrations, just so the Muslims can feel included. Imagine promoting a religion that doesn’t respect women to a little girl who will grow up thinking it’s great! Makes me furious as someone who CARES about our children and future.
Whats funny is that I used to believe all of what I was told but I am lucky my eyes have been opened through experiences.
One in particular really shaped me and that was when I was barely 18 and dated a 30 year old Pakistani doctor. I thought that I couldn’t tarnish everyone with the same brush and that because he was educated he probably wouldn’t be disrespectful. Spoiler: he took advantage of me, treated me like an object, touched me where and when he pleased even when I said no and then complained when I got upset, disciplined me for standing up for myself as a woman, was openly disgusted by the concept of being gay and believed they were “bad people”. All of this he excused with, you guessed it, his culture.

I am only just speaking up about this now but I also know so many girls have similar experiences.
But it seems there doesn’t even need to be a relationship for this SA. These Muslim foreign men have touched and/or harassed so many girls on the streets (I am a personal
victim).
Yes, all these instances happen with caucasion men too but let me tell you that it’s a LOT less prevalent from mine and my friends experience. I strongly believe it’s because Islam disrespects women.

We need to stop the boats because most people on them are Muslim foreign men!

So in conclusion, we may be letting these Muslim men in to provide their safety, but it’s coming at the cost of OURS as women
Open your eyes.

I’m amazed she asks the religious leaning of every man who harasses her.

Go on then. Let’s see the “real” statistics.

Why don't you actually talk to women of particular cultures or visit and live in their countries instead of trying to make us all believe in your fantasy world.

I don't care. Stats don't change or create facts. Anyone can make up a stat, use a stat, find a stat to support their view and motivations will vary.

We're bored of the gaslighting.

No one is listening to this nonsense, anymore.

Ah. You don’t know what a statistic is. I see. Goodness, that’s embarrassing for you! 🤣

A statistic IS a fact, dear. It’s a proven piece of information. The ONS is the office of national statistics. They’re a government body collecting data from the police and the crown prosecution service.

I think your comment might be the most toe curlingly embarrassing admission of ignorance I’ve seen in a while - thanks for the laugh! 🤣

Do you not find it worrying that the majority of women and children are raped and murdered by white British men? Over 90% of rapes are committed by someone known to the victim, and over 50% of rapes are committed by a partner or ex-partner, with one in 3 women being raped in her own home. For children it’s even higher, with over 95% being abused by a male family member or close family associate. All of the data overwhelmingly tells us that we have a homegrown issue. Where is your outrage for that? Where is your outrage for the women who die every 3 days as a result of partner or ex-partner violence?

Why do you feel it’s more important to focus on the tiny number of foreign nationals?

Meanwhile, of all the arrests made at the anti-immigration protests, hotel protests, raise the colours bollocks, over 40% of them had previous for domestic violence.

Of course there is, and always has been, outrage for victims of dv, rape and murder by people born here. Nothing we can do about that other than prison and rehabillitation processes. But why do you think its ok to import murderers and rapists, giving the crap excuse of 'well we already have some, so does it matter if we import more?'

SoftMiddle · 23/08/2026 19:56

An example of cultural differences and attitudes towards women:

As Noel Rwabirinba, a sixteen-year-old who had been a militiaman for two years said, "If we see girls, it's our right...we can violate them."[7] This statement reflects the normalization of rape in the DRC. Because of conflicts, between 60 and 90 percent of women are single heads of households. This puts many burdens upon them, such as having to travel long distances to find resources, leaving them vulnerable to violence.[24]

Firstly, you think verified statistics from the Office of National Statistics are made up gaslighting, but Wikipedia, which can literally be edited by absolutely anyone is an accurate source…?

Secondly, I’m not sure what point you’re even trying to make? What does the ethnicity of the DCR have to do with rape statistics in the UK, exactly? Do you want to maybe try again in a way that actually makes sense?

SoftMiddle · 23/08/2026 20:00

I've highlighted only ONE culture where women are in danger due to cultural norms. I could go on all day.

I'm done on this thread now but I needed to make the point that gaslighting about the serious issue of cultural issues that threaten women will not stand without challenge.

If we don't acknowledge the truth, and let people like @BoredZelda @HesterLeggatt support abusive cultures through gaslighting, we will never be able to tackle this issue because, according to them, there isn't one!

Except we aren’t importing rapists and murderers. We’re allowing people the chance of a better life. Some of them will be people who do awful things, and some of them will be people who do amazing things. The vast, vast majority are normal people who will become part of our communities, pay their taxes and contribute to our economy, and live perfectly ordinary and boring lives.

Nope. It’s actually violence by all men is bad. If we only focus on a small number of men who are bad, the much, much larger number of men who are bad will continue doing it and women are still not safe.

Stop what you can and work on the men here.

Why not? It’s a basic duty of government

Do you think the U.K. at large would be happy to do that for those coming here from the Middle East in the same way they did for the Ukrainians? If not, why not?

The Ukraine visa scheme was sold to the British public as offering temporary sanctuary, not a permanent one. By September 2025, around 97,000 people who had previously arrived on the scheme had already left the UK (42%). The Ukraine scheme does not confer refugee status, although 68 Ukrainians had been granted refugee status between 2022-2025 via a different route.

That’s not quite accurate. Any Ukranian refugee would have been eligible to seek asylum. That they chose not to is a different matter. It is not clear whether those who left have returned to the Ukraine, but they are all still eligible to return. To say it was “sold as temporary” is a bit of a stretch, what is true is that pretty much every visa requirement was relaxed to allow them in and the waivers have been extended. We’re over 4 years in to the war, with no end in site, how likely do you think it is that someone with a family who have been here for 4 years, are somewhat settled and have no home or family to return to will leave as soon as the war is done? Do you think the British people would have been less welcoming if, in her speech, Priti Patel had explicitly said the Ukrainians would be welcome to stay as long as they wanted?

I know people like to bend over backward to paint Ukrainian refugees as different for all sorts of reasons but I haven’t yet found anyone making a solid argument for that.

Oh bless you. I’m sure it made sense in your head.

We aren’t in the DRC. The UK has about 30,000 - 35,000 people from the DRC living here, almost all of whom came here legally, and the UK has a deportation agreement with the DRC. The number of violent crimes documented in the UK by people from the DRC is in single digits. If it’s a prevalent national cultural attitude that you think they’d bring here then I’m afraid the facts already disprove that.

It wasn’t the asylum system.

If you want to use humanitarian visas not asylum then it’s closer to Australia’s system.

Much easier to vet and limit.

I’m sorry that statistics offend you. Just because you don’t like them, it doesn’t change them.

As the U.K. gov are not keen on publishing accurate data I can only assume it’s similar to Denmark. AI but there is plenty of data out there.

According to Danish statistics from 2010–2014, the average rape conviction rate for individuals of Afghan origin was 18.1 per 100,000 persons, compared to 0.7 per 100,000 for ethnic Danes, making Afghans approximately 25 times more likely to be convicted of rape in that period.
Broader data indicates that non-Western immigrants, a group that includes a significant number of Afghans, constitute about 10.6% of the Danish population but are responsible for 32.4% of all rapes and 29.6% of violent crimes.

Well lets be honest, we've given a platform to these people for years. And we've been conditioned to believe that to have an opposing opinion makes us racist and intolerent. Now the poor loves are frothing at the mouth because we see exactly who they are and what they stand for and we're no longer listening to their uneducated rantings.

europeanconservative.com/articles/news/non-western-immigrants-commit-one-third-of-rapes-and-violent-crimes-in-denmark/

Extract -
Citing numbers from the Ministry of Justice, Berlingske reports that non-Western immigrants, who make up 8.4% of the Danish population, commit 14% of the country’s crimes of aggravated violence and 24.3% of the rapes, judging by number of convicted.
Maybe even more concerning are the figures for second-generation non-Western immigrants. Making up a mere 2.2% of the population, this demographic is responsible for 15.6% of the violent crimes and 8.1% of the rapes.
Put together, this means perpetrators of 29.6% of the country’s violent crimes and 32.4% of rapes are from a non-Western background, despite only making up 10.6% of the population.

Firstly, conviction rate is not the same thing as commission rate. Secondly, you are quoting data that’s over a decade out of date?

You can't have a serious conversation on Mumsnet. They censor EVERYTHING that goes against their chosen narrative. Rape and violence against women is a serious topic and a woman advocate site wants to pick and choose which rapists we can discuss. Well done, @MNHQ

I’d be up for that. I would vote for any party who said “we are going to stop the boats AND we are going to invest heavily in programs which focus on eradicating violence against women and girls, harsher sentences for domestic abusers, work to increase the reporting and conviction rates for rape, provide more support to Women’s Aid organisations and make our streets safe at night”.

Seems unlikely though when their entire focus is on the boats.

I don’t see why you’re pushing so hard on this, the crimes that happen due to lax vetting and controls could stop. Why wouldn’t you want that to stop?

Why prioritise the male perpetrators over victims?
