Does anyone else feel the UK is heading towards a crisis?

Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Rant over.

I feel the feral kids going around on bikes in gangs and all the joyriding is a big crisis

As I said..

I do feel really concerned for the younger generations. Entry level/minimum wage jobs are essentially non existent now - managers at Lidl now have MBAs. AI replacing lots of career choices … it all feels a bit bleak.

Yes but you’re skipping over the victims of the crimes. It didn’t have to happen at all.

We could have a system that stops it.

This is where it becomes very difficult, trying to solve a macro problem looking at micro events. For that victim of that crime the outcome is tragic. If we want to insist that person would never have been attacked by that person if they weren’t in this country, that would be correct. I’m not sure you’d want to go down that route though. Where would it end? Presumably the inverse would also be said to be true, if a white man assaults an Afghan woman, he could say he wouldn’t have done it if she weren’t in this country. See how ridiculous that sounds. In the same way, saying that one victim was only at risk from attack by immigrants would not be the case either. As tragic as it is, there is way more chance she would, in her lifetime, be assaulted by a white, British man.

As horrific as any crime is, you cannot make a wider policy based on a very small number of cases, all that does is lead to unintended consequences.

What is your suggestion for the appropriate system?

What do you mean by ‘all you’ve got’?

I’m trying to understand the background to your posts as you obviously feel strongly about continuing to welcome people.

Your take is then it is different but ok as it’s in small quantities.

It’s quite simple really. Our nation is in the privileged position of being able to provide shelter for those who need it.

If bringing those people here can meet our international obligations whilst also making the lives of those people much better, then we should do it.

It should be done in a way that causes minimal risk and harm to all involved. Policy should be implemented that does exactly that.

Using any group of people as a scapegoat for the systematic and chronic underfunding of government services and decades of poor government decisions is a far more dangerous situation for everyone in the U.K. than allowing a very small number refugees into our country.

I want our country to succeed and prosper. The current focus on “small boats” is a distraction amplified by those in politics who have far more nefarious reasons for making it an issue.

What do you know of the world around you? Have you travelled afar? Are you aware of different cultures and ideologies which exist on our planet? Do you think we can all live side by side at peace with such ‘diverse’ ideals? I don’t.
its not just your ears you need, but your eyes.
Then you can ‘see’ and decide how we can make this a safer place for us all, especially our women.

My daughter has asked me to share this (she is 21):
Almost every time I get harassed, it has been foreign Muslim men. Not saying Caucasians don’t do this at all but it is far less common.
Sometimes it only takes me to get out the car for them to call something over to me and I will have to sit in my car, lock the doors, and wait for one of my male friends to collect me.
My best friend is Iranian and says this is a silent takeover and when enough are here ( and remember that they usually have a lot of kids with the same ideologies) one will come into power and strip us of our rights as women completely, just as it happened in Iran 1979.
Even without one in power YET and the number of these foreign Muslims not even finished rising, Islam is being promoted in our society including SCHOOLS through eg Ramadan celebrations, just so the Muslims can feel included. Imagine promoting a religion that doesn’t respect women to a little girl who will grow up thinking it’s great! Makes me furious as someone who CARES about our children and future.
Whats funny is that I used to believe all of what I was told but I am lucky my eyes have been opened through experiences.
One in particular really shaped me and that was when I was barely 18 and dated a 30 year old Pakistani doctor. I thought that I couldn’t tarnish everyone with the same brush and that because he was educated he probably wouldn’t be disrespectful. Spoiler: he took advantage of me, treated me like an object, touched me where and when he pleased even when I said no and then complained when I got upset, disciplined me for standing up for myself as a woman, was openly disgusted by the concept of being gay and believed they were “bad people”. All of this he excused with, you guessed it, his culture.

I am only just speaking up about this now but I also know so many girls have similar experiences.
But it seems there doesn’t even need to be a relationship for this SA. These Muslim foreign men have touched and/or harassed so many girls on the streets (I am a personal
victim).
Yes, all these instances happen with caucasion men too but let me tell you that it’s a LOT less prevalent from mine and my friends experience. I strongly believe it’s because Islam disrespects women.

We need to stop the boats because most people on them are Muslim foreign men!

So in conclusion, we may be letting these Muslim men in to provide their safety, but it’s coming at the cost of OURS as women
Open your eyes.

Well said - I also have a daughter who has had similar experiences. I feel for you and it is a terrible position to put our children in, especially our daughters. There is nothing more that can be said - it has all been said. So well done. 😀

There are a lot of things wrong with this country and most of them can be traced back to the Thatcher years.
There was a vast transfer of money from the public purse into vested interests.
We complain about Council tax - the grants from central government to local authorities were cut hence the potholes.
We complain about the high cost of housing. Council houses were sold off and ended up in the hands of investors who can charge whatever they can get. Councils were not allowed to reinvest in new housing.
Water, gas, electricity suffer from lack of investment since being sold. High prices, low investment and monies flowing abroad.
British Rail was making a profit on a daily basis so government money was cut back to make it inefficient & so privatisation was welcomed. And deaths followed!
Health - run it down; bring in private companies and make health insurance popular. Close the mental health facilities & make a fuss about homeless people & nutters strolling the streets.Dentistry - bugger the poor - and let people pay through the nose.
Defence, Probation, Buses similar policies, similar results.

We need a Government prepared to wield a Damoclesian sword & just say "fuck you" to the manipulators; the shysters, the conmen of investment bankers, the press barons, and the piranhas who feed off their excesses.

Nationalise now & worry about compensation later.

(Wow! That was a lot of my chest but I mean every word)

Oh we are definitely heading towards war. Russia testing nato counties. China invading Taiwan. North Korea building up its military plus giving their troops war experience fighting for Russia. Iran fighting America. The Straits closed and the price of fuel going through the roof. That orange pedo pissing every country off. So yes. We are definitely heading towards war

Well said. Just to put things into perspective…I have daughter due to return to Uni next month and one of her worries isn’t about her course, friends, finances but how she can feel safe in the university library when there are groups of older some middle aged men likely Middle Eastern men hanging around outside smoking, chatting and uncomfortably leering at her as she enters/exits the building most days. Our lovely f diverse universities who are likely financially on their knees are allowing this with more prayer rooms and selective buildings to encourage those with such ideals to infiltrate our country. Unbelievable and makes my blood boil. I will say it how it is - we are throwing all we fought for, away - freedom. Where is our strong government? Where is our strong King? Where are all our strong men?

Yes it’s awful and I think it is a threat

you have to look at how non Moslems are treated in places like Nigeria

Do YOU not find it worrying that the Government have resorted to printing out leaflets, explaining to these illegal immigrants that it's not ok to rape or beat women and children?

Do you not find it worrying that the majority of women and children are raped and murdered by white British men? Over 90% of rapes are committed by someone known to the victim, and over 50% of rapes are committed by a partner or ex-partner, with one in 3 women being raped in her own home. For children it’s even higher, with over 95% being abused by a male family member or close family associate. All of the data overwhelmingly tells us that we have a homegrown issue. Where is your outrage for that? Where is your outrage for the women who die every 3 days as a result of partner or ex-partner violence?

Why do you feel it’s more important to focus on the tiny number of foreign nationals?

Meanwhile, of all the arrests made at the anti-immigration protests, hotel protests, raise the colours bollocks, over 40% of them had previous for domestic violence.

Says someone who doesn't understand how IHT will affect farms.

A farming couple only pay IHT on assets over £2.5 million, and then only 50% of the liability, and have a whole decade to pay it. This tax loophole was created by Thatcher in the 1980s in order to protect the Conservatives’ wealthy landowner cronies. It is entirely right that the government seek to close this unfair loophole. I wouldn’t mind being a pound behind someone in that position.

The incidents, overall, are lower because Western culture condemns this behaviour. Other cultures see it as the 'norm' due to religion, societal views on females etc.

90% of rapes by white men would make sense where most of the population was white.

Now, things have changed. The incidents are higher and the demographics are not as you've stated.

Using scare mongering figures (e.g. 90%!!!!! 🙄), like you've attempted, doesn't work for people who know how to read stats and risk analysis.

Nope. It’s actually violence by all men is bad. If we only focus on a small number of men who are bad, the much, much larger number of men who are bad will continue doing it and women are still not safe.

Hilarious comment if not so tragic. We cannot provide shelter for those already living here. Social housing has waiting lists of several years. The UK can't pluck houses out of their arse. And i cant see many people volunteering to put these immigrants up in their spare bedrooms. But if i'm missing something, please do tell me....

I think those two things are adjacent but quite separate issues.

The situation in Ceuta came about because of a number of factors that coalesced and resulted in a mass wave (the vast majority of whom have been returned). Much of it was based on misinformation, but also some very specific political events. It isn’t the first time, we’ve seen it in Ceuta before, and in Greece, as well as other second destinations. It could, of course, happen at our border, but things would have to change massively politically between UK and France for that to happen. Of course, Brexit has made that all the more possible, but for now I don’t think it is something we can envisage happening any time soon.

You are absolutely right that the current system internationally is becoming less and less fit for purpose in the modern world. The number of political and climate related displacements has exploded since the 60s when the agreements were signed. We don’t have data for the 60s of everyone who was displaced at the time, but even taking into account what happened with Partition, and Palestine at that time (these were the biggest events) the numbers were in the low tens of millions. Now it sits at 117 million. For me the question isn’t about whether we should stop helping refugees, it is about how we help them. The biggest part of that is helping people safely to their home nations. That requires an international effort to end conflict and help nations improve conditions for their population. I don’t know if that’s possible, how it would be done. I know that poverty plays a huge part in that so stopping a handful of western billionaires from hoarding all the world’s wealth might be a good start, but the chances of that are slim to none.

So that leaves us with 117 million people at risk. What do we do with them? Do we turn our back on them? Decide we don’t have a responsibility to humans who don’t live in our country? I don’t think the British people want to do that. Look at the amount of money we raise for things like comic relief. If there was another famine on the scale of Ethiopia in the 80s, I’m sure we’d all put our hands in our pockets. They obviously can’t all come to the U.K, which is fine because a tiny percentage of them ever do. Do we have an international organisation deciding how many we can take, divvying up the number based on populations? That probably wouldn’t go down well. I think the most sensible solution would be for countries to set a number they think they can handle, in tandem with the overall immigration policies. In addition to this there should be a way for people to claim asylum from anywhere in the world. That way, we wouldn’t have to deal with “undocumented” individuals rocking up on a dinghy. We could work with charity organisations and companies to sponsor refugees, like we did with Ukrainians, so they can have a job to come to and be able to afford to support themselves. I’d support that.

Do you think the U.K. at large would be happy to do that for those coming here from the Middle East in the same way they did for the Ukrainians? If not, why not?

Do you think the U.K. at large would be happy to do that for those coming here from the Middle East in the same way they did for the Ukrainians? If not, why not?

The Ukraine visa scheme was sold to the British public as offering temporary sanctuary, not a permanent one. By September 2025, around 97,000 people who had previously arrived on the scheme had already left the UK (42%). The Ukraine scheme does not confer refugee status, although 68 Ukrainians had been granted refugee status between 2022-2025 via a different route.
