Fair point. In this Dystopia there would be no benefits. There would simply be work for benefit level income. So those who would be ousted from their NMW jobs by people on benefits would end up having to do other work for benefit rates themselves. So we have an enormous pool of cheap labour, subsidised by the public purse.
Jobs requiring higher skills sets would be devalued to NMW, and so it would continue up the chain with everyone's wages falling, until only those who owned businesses would be better off.
It will certainly hold its appeal for the minority of society who do own businesses. But for the rest if us its turkeys and Christmas again.

It's also because they despise low.paid work and low paid workers as being useless. This also comes across in the "I'm a net contributor, your not" comments. And, a bit tangential, in the absolute slavering over the future of generative AI in replacing a lot of jobs (but never CEOs of course). In reality low paid is not the same as low skilled. It's not just care worker either, I've seen similar attitudes towards nursing etc and actually anyone working in "the public sector".

Yes. The tough talking, hard headed, got here by hard graft cohort. Think anyone who's not pushing money around to make more money for people with a lot of money is a leech.
The psychology is fascinating. Because they spend their lives with their noses against the windows (and up the backsides) of the properly wealthy, all the while aspiring to be them, and punching down and delighting that other people will suffer makes them think they're getting there.

I think a C5 documentary is imminent, which neatly explains the flurry of shite coming from Reform.

Thankfully, Jenrick is most unlikely to get the chance to do any of this. But I do worry about what Badenoch would think doing if the Tories were to get back into power, in coalition with Reform.

I was, mostly, as a teacher - though I worked in the private sector of that for a while. I’ve often been told on here that public sector workers are just a drain on wealth creation, lazy, incompetent etc, yet I did exactly the same job in a private school - is that different? Why?
leaving aside that they would struggle with nobody to educate/treat/care for their workforce, or plan roads, or any of a million essential public sector jobs. They may not directly make money if that’s your metric for worthwhile, but without them nobody else would…

Yup. Saw it mentioned on social media. Loads of the comments were along the lines of ‘where is the one about Kier’s (sic) glasses’ as if a) it hadn’t been criticised endlessly, b) it was anything like the same scale and c) it hadn’t been properly declared.

It would serve them right if there was a public sector general strike. That would show them.

what I think is the worst bit (as if there’s any good bits) is that they are categorising those who they feel are the most disabled and yet cutting their money whilst admitting that most of these won’t be able to work.

How do they expect them to live? Who is caring for them? Who is feeding and clothing them? Putting a roof over their head?

Ds has looked into some PT jobs locally since being made redundant as well as some in his profession. Nearly all have been a non starter because the buildings aren’t wheelchair accessible.
