It’s over tomorrow, the heat is over for another year

Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

Temperatures are likely to be above average overall. There is a chance that late season hot spells or heatwaves develop, especially in the south.

It seems some bored journalists have suddenly decided to turn this into "SIXTH HEATWAVE COMING*

So there is a chance it happens - but it might not.

Does anyone remember that thread from not too long ago where someone was complaining that after weeks of rain she had put her washing out and a man had lit a bonfire in her neighbourhood? It seems funny now but I can understand her frustration. I can't remember when it was but it was earlier this year?

There will be people who will say that we're always complaining, but global warming will lead to endless rain or no rain. As the jet stream weakens weather systems will move more slowly and sometimes get stuck.

If in Britain if we have two days of sunshine and one day of rain in summer that's good. But if we have two months of sunshine and a month of rain that's not good.

Unfortunately heatwave number 6 is coming

Supposed to be rain this week in London.

I had a about 2 secs of drizzle this morning but then cloudy and humid followed by bastard sun and humid. Home now and looks slightly breezy outside. Just stopped sweating.

Sick of the is obsession that meat is destroying the planet when out of season veg is far worse. Not to mention the amount of water avocados take to grow. I will never, ever stop eating meat. I get mine from the local farm. How is that contributing to climate change and your avocado isn’t?

I think we’re still in #5 where I am on the south coast. Honestly they don’t really feel like heatwaves at this point; just continuous heat and humidity all the time.

Why are avocados the only alternative to eating meat ? 😀
There are quite a wide variety of foods that are neither meat nor avocados.

I'm afraid I think the days of us all worrying about plastic straws and avocados are long gone.

The weather app keeps saying rain, but it never comes. I even get notifications saying "rain to stop soon". But there is no rain. It's saying what the weather should be doing. But it won't rain

I actually haven’t eaten meat for 3 days and instead of having meat free days I think I can do 5 days veg and 2 days meat ( for health reasons). Before anyone comes at me with eating beans ect I can’t for health reasons as I do not have a gall bladder.

We should all eat less meat

@Cherrytree86 agree. I don’t think I can get kids on board but myself and partner can eat less. It’s healthier. I made a Turkish bulgur tonight with asparagus in lemon juice and olive oil and a salad with feta, spinach, tomato and beetroot .

Finally raining quite heavily here and forecast to carry on until around 2am, although getting lighter from any time now, it was lovely to hear it come down!

Woke up to see evidence of rain! (Oxfordshire). Looks like it was only a light shower but it's something.

Percentage chance overnight is about 65% so hopefully a bit more on the way.

Oi Oi! It’s rained in the northern Home Counties! The freshness! The Petrichor! I have no idea where my work trousers are! It will be the first time I haven’t worn shorts to work for two months!

South east London here and evidence of a little rain overnight. The forecast is showing plenty of rain from midnight through to tomorrow morning, and then a reasonable dose again on Wednesday and Thursday. Provided that the hideous humidity is gone I'll be very happy.

The Met Office has had in its long range forecast for a couple of weeks that another heatwave is "possible".

The newspapers have suddenly upgraded that to a certainty.
