It’s over tomorrow, the heat is over for another year

Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

this has to change. I’ve done everything on a personsl
level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

I actually woke up this morning feeling rested and that I had enjoyed my sleep for the first time since around June 21st. I managed to use a DUVET!! Such a difference.
Today I've not stuck to my sofa.
So. Much. Happier.

Actually we are more than halfway through August - thank goodness. Only another 15 days till September.

Same here (Essex). We bought some new garden furniture in May and I've not been able to tolerate sitting out in it but for the first time I've sat out today and read, it was quite pleasant.

20 degrees here in South Yorkshire. We even had a tiny bit of rain this morning. Too many wildfires happening in my area though and we need a downpour.

I’ve slept with the window as wide as it will go and blinds up for the last couple of months. If I wake just as it’s getting light,
then I pull the blinds at that time so I can get another couple of hours sleep.

Who are you to judge whether ‘fans are sufficient’ to keep another person who you don’t know, cool in this heat? Pretty sure they have tried the fans already at some point in the last two months. Do you personally know what their living situation and health is for you to be so sure of yourself what is ‘sufficient’ for another person?

Well it seems my prediction of rain was sheer vanity, the clouds were playing some cruel game and the sun triumphed again today. No rain!

But it has been a bit cooler and I'm grateful! Ridiculous that I'm grateful for what would once have been considered high Sumner temperatures!!

Regarding the fan suggestion, I find fans awful for my asthma, hot rushing particle filled air, air con is much better as a compromise. I love it when I go into a store with air con and get the cooler air. It all depends. The cold air of winter is problematic too.

@HPFA I sincerely hope that 30 sec brief shower wasn't the rain forecasters were predicting!

Nothing here in the southwest and just read in the Telegraph that another heatwave is coming for the first two weeks of September 🥺
The ‘light rain’ forecast for Tuesday here has now evaporated. Nothing likely this week.
I give up.

It’s going to be 26C in London today - still warm but a million times better than the 30-plus days we’ve been having. The night-time temperature is still 18C 🙄

From Wednesday it really drops back to normal. Friday is forecast to be 21C with a night-time temperature of 12C - heaven!

No rain here and none due til Thursday. 25 today-which is pleasant to work in. However we are due to go to Montenegro on Saturday where it’s about 40 degrees 🫣. Booked in winter when it was raining and we thought we would need some sun, which we now most definitely do not.

We had rain last night. I will check the water butt to see if there was any significant amount.

Temperatures this week range between 16 and 19 degrees. It is beginning to feel like summer is over.

I could smell rain this morning at about 5.30 am, when I was putting the recycling out. Nothing was wet though, so I wonder if there was a very light shower at some point overnight. If so, I'm sad I missed it!

No rain here in south east London. Thank God yesterday's hideous humidity has gone - I felt quite unwell all day.

A high of only 26 here which is lovely - feels refreshing! Looks like we might even have some rain overnight on Tuesday which would be the first rain in 50 days.

It rained for a few minutes here in SE London last night. But when I got up the ground and soil in the garden was bone dry and the sun was bright and cheery. I would like the forecasts to be a bit more accurate as that overnight drizzle wasn't rain in the typical sense.

There is more of a breeze though, thank god.
