Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

this has to change. I’ve done everything on a personsl
level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

@FlynnD93 There is an exemption from the hosepipe ban for trees planted in the last 3 years, You can use a hosepipe on newly laid turf or seed for up to 28 days after it has been planted so the roots can establish, after that I'm afraid you have to use a watering can.

It's been a pleasure to wake up to cloudy skies and again a teasing 20% chance of rain.

Air con is incredibly bad for the environment using huge amounts of electricity. Why add to the problem?! Funny how you want to ban barbecues permanently but don't see that what you are doing is equally as bad.

Decent fans should be sufficient.

No it isn't but it should be a consideration. Terrible for the environment and really bad for some health issues like asthma as they dry the air out too much.

Many people don't even do the basic of havings black out curtains shut to keep the heat out and closing windows until it becomes cooler outside.

Oh no - I love this heat I’m the colour of my oak floorboards ( my dad is half Italian and I inherited the southern European skin) I’m dreading autumn and am deliberately booking time abroad to avoid winter. Log store well and truly ready and stacked too- I hate the cold.

When are these days? Plus when you get nearer the temp inevitably increases & the chance of rain goes away

I suspect it’ll come back in early September, it usually does. We’ve had a couple of mild Octobers in recent years too, I remember being chased by wasps one year when pumpkin picking…

Not really. Aircon filters the air, and takes out a lot of allergens which can trigger asthma attacks.

It will return… it’s only the beginning of August. The heatwaves usually come back for Aug/Sept

it’s a bit chilly this morning here in the North East. 15c!

I’ve been staying in South Devon this past week and it’s been lovely. Sunny, but with a breeze and temps in the 20s, high of 27° on Thursday - perfect for the outdoor pool. So pleased to have avoided the 35° we’ve had at home in the midlands .

For my fellow asthmatics, I’ve been drinking a cup of mullein tea a day this summer and it has really really helped. Really recommend!

Defo agree, it is easier to warm up than cool down. I’m South England, near the coast, and also very sick of the heat, as are my elderly parents, and my dog!

We give this to our asthmatic horses! Brilliant stuff.

It's (nearly) perfect here today (Essex).
I could run and not feel like I was training for the Death Valley Ultra.
I've been able to do some garden work w/o having to wipe the dripping sweat off my brow every 2 minutes.
We sat in the garden to eat.
I have the doors and windows open and the breeze is lovely, not like a fan oven.
Alexa tells me it's 26C

For weeks it feels like the weather forecast for a week away has been promising rain only for it to disappear.

Now the BBC keeps adding the rain symbol onto the coming days. So I really hope it's going to happen!
