It’s over tomorrow, the heat is over for another year

Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country Flowers

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

this has to change. I’ve done everything on a personsl
level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

I’ve found my people! It’s going to be 13 degrees overnight where I am tonight. And I cannot wait!

Fuck you heatwaves.

IS ANYONE IN LONDON AS FUCKING HOT AS THEY WERE YESTERDAY?????????

SW/Surrey NOOOOOO! It's been much more comfy today. There is cloud and the sun hasn't been blasting against the back of the house.

littlemissalwaystired · 15/08/2026 19:22

Still feeling so hot in the SW😭😭

The same, I can't function when it's too hot, especially working in schools! Used to love the sunshine but not so much any more. Don't know how you Southerners cope, it's been unbearable in the north.

RisingSunn · 15/08/2026 19:40

Its getting cloudy and I've hung some washing out hoping to tempt fate!

chaosmaker · 15/08/2026 19:54

I have some laundry drying on hangers upstairs, not sure if it's makng it cooler or if it actually has cooled down a bit.

Allseeingallknowing · 15/08/2026 19:56

Still sweltering oop north!

outdooryone · 15/08/2026 20:09

I was up a Scottish mountain today. 7*c at the summit, with wind cooling it below that...careful what you wish for folks.

RoyalImpatience · 15/08/2026 20:14

My clouds have gone

You know this is pure cruelty to the poor sods in the South of England!

the80sweregreat · 15/08/2026 21:19

Still no sign of rain!

Neuronimo · 15/08/2026 21:24

A tad more comfortable here 21 currently and I think tonight cools down a bit quicker.

Still no sign of rain!

It's awful isn't it.
We had clouds and promise of 20% at 8pm then ten pm but all the clouds have gone ?

We had promise of some rain over night but again it's clear skies.

PrettyLittleRose · 15/08/2026 21:31

Been pleasant today, 21-22C, but tomorrow (Sunday) is predicted to be 25-26C, yet a few days ago, Sunday was predicted to be 21C. So it looks like the hot summer isn't over yet!

And yes, STILL no sign of any rain!

AFTER tomorrow - 36 in London tomorrow. Then two weeks of nothing about 26.

I feel happy and grateful about this but also… it’s scary that 26 used to be considered unusually hot but is now a blessed relief

friedaklein · 15/08/2026 21:43

I will take 26 for London over Thursday's 38.

Agree. I was saying this to DH today. It's hilarious how we class 24-26C as a relief now and 'not that hot.' LOL. Would have been classed as hot up to 2-3 years ago!

I had to go for my daily walk on Wednesday (I think it was) when it was 35-36C, and said to DH, 'it's too HOT!.' DH said 'wait til after our evening meal, when cools down to 28C or so' LOL!!!

the80sweregreat · 15/08/2026 21:54

mondaytosunday · 15/08/2026 22:49

Anyone else see looking forward to next week when for two days its forecast not not even reach 20 here in London (and presume elsewhere)? After hitting 38 this week I’m relieved!

DestituteDesperate · 15/08/2026 22:51

When I can switch on the central heating and bring out my long johns, I’ll be extremely happy.

I completely hear you!! It’s lovely to see the sun but come on this has been relentless. We had just laid a new lawn 4 weeks before it started it’s now like straw I’m hoping it survives 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve just been quoted for Aircon and I’ve ordered it! I can’t really afford it but I know in my heart of hearts that I can’t do this heat again. Not being fitted till October but ready for next year. As usual our government failed to prepare just like when we get snow. The “temporary” ban on disposable Bar B Q’s is laughable, just ban them full stop ffs who needs them?!?
