Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

this has to change. I’ve done everything on a personsl
level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

Last night I opened the curtains and the huge half window full out. Decided if I was going to be awake anyway the extra light and noise wouldn't matter and might as well be a bit cooler.

So in the morning bedroom was blissfully cool.

Think it's about 27 degrees here -our house can cope up to about 31 in the daytime so it's OK. DD and I thinking we might go out for a walk this evening.

Me too. I had so many plans to sort out the house/donate old toys before DS goes back to school (he's been away with family) and have done none of it.

I had like cognitive issues, could not think. awful.

Can’t believe the difference in my mood today in the cool weather compared to the last few weeks. The heat has definitely affected my mental health. Just being able to go for a walk without sweating buckets is bliss. Had to log off work early yet again yesterday as I couldn’t concentrate anymore in the heat

Nope, always have and always will love the rain. Feel terrible for the poor suckers in new builds on flood plains and more recently those that are flooded for reasons of other negligence (not managing rivers properly etc)

I have one on the mountain opposite me, started in the last hour. Called it in to be told they are already there. Firefighters need a massive cash bonus and enough of them to get a break from the infernos. I still vote for chucking the firestarters into the blaze.

That or conscripting them into the fire service and making them deal with what they caused.

Me too, I used to work on a farm and I don’t think people realise how serious this is. Desperately chucking winter stock down your animals in august is something you read about in the history books before a fuck off famine. And people who bleat ‘import’ seem to have blocked out that the places we import from are also on fire.

I don't think people realise how dependent we are on other countries for our food in general. Think there was a dairy farmer on earlier talking about how it's affecting them and will affect the public.

Fire seems to be winning on the mountain opposite and has split into 2/3 different bits going in different directions. It is horrific. We have had other fires before this a little further away so everything stinks of woodsmoke :( Makes breathing even worse

London here and quite unbelievably it's now looking like it might rain. MIGHT. It's overcast, temperature has dropped although still a bit muggy. Possibly a storm brewing. Hopefully. I have my wellies ready to go out and get soaked,. Praying it happens.

It was still quite unbearable today. Went to a play area and it felt like the last 2 days. We came home and haven't moved . Tomorrow is 27 so cooler. Today was 30 although my car showed 34.5 but that was in the direct sun .

The firefighters finally had helicopter support for the last hour or so. Fire is out. They must be knackered. Talked to my friend earlier and she said her daughter was driving in front of a fire engine that must have been coming back from overnight work and the ones not driving were all passed out sleeping.

The heat is certainly not over.

Still pretty warm here in West London,at 27 degrees (3 pm today) but a vast improvement on yesterday and Thursday's mid 30s. I thought I was going to pass out yesterday on the bus coming home,it was so unbearably hot (the app on my phone was saying it was 37 degrees). I'm looking forward to the 20th of this month when there's going to (supposedly) be several days of temperatures between 19 and 22 Celsius. It will feel like absolute heaven after the repeated plus 30s. Back to what a British summer SHOULD feel like! No doubt all the heat worshippers will be moaning and saying that we've had 'no summer'.
