I have messed up. My house is quite a mess recently. Yesterday complex needs person rang me asked to come for a home visit which is today. Late afternoon. I agreed on purpose because it will force me to properly tidy up.

I'm sorting Dd16 bedroom. I have totally emptied it out carpet up. Which has taken me 5 days. Ds was going to take the roll of lino up from downstairs but he was on the phone. So i came down stairs to rest for a bit. About 30 mins later ds took the lino up for me. I was meant to go back up but I didn't. I cant do it on my own I can barely lift it. Ds can't help today because he's moving out.

Only thing I can think of is to ask dd16 to help me. Its her room I'm doing. But I really cant be arsed with crappy teenage strops. But also she's been at her sisters for a week because I'm taking so long to do the bedroom. And really she should be home and its because of me that she's not. She's quite happy at her sisters but thats not the point. It was just meant ti be for a couple of nights stretching to 3 wouldn't have been so bad but its been a week. I feel like I have dumped her.

Can I ask why are you so set on putting lino down? It is not a normal choice for a bedroom (I understand that you already have it and want to use it up.) I think at the moment I would give it up as a bad job and invest in a couple of large rugs that will cover the floorboards.

This sort of lino is fine in a bedroom isn’t it?

Blimey, and this is why young people are going into the big, wide world so unprepared.

🤔 The down has been done. I said up thread I was going to get on with it. I just need to mop. I can't do that just yet.

The lino I can't just get on with.

So why did you order Lino in the first place and rip up the carpet without any consideration or plan for how you were actually going to do the work??
The whole thing is so chaotic, it would only take an hour for you to clean downstairs apparently, yet you haven’t mopped it yet either by 13:30 from starting to clean this morning.

So it sounds like you've done the hard bits. If you've taken the skirting board off, the cutting around the edges doesn't need to be perfect. The skirting board covers all manner of sins, and beading exists for a reason Grin

Here is a handy trick for the corners which is the only hard part.

https://www.google.com/search?q=cutting+corner+vinyl&rlz=1C1UEAD_enGB1131GB1131&oq=cutting+the+corner+of+vinyl&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCggBEAAYChgWGB4yBggAEEUYOTIKCAEQABgKGBYYHjINCAIQABiGAxiABBiKBTINCAMQABiGAxiABBiKBTIKCAQQABiABBiiBDIKCAUQABiiBBiJBdIBCDc2OTFqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&source=chrome.ob&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:da833817,vid:lWuY6f28I5Q,st:0

I wish it was the hard bit 😭 ds actually took it up for me last night. Its really hard enrolling and shaping it to the room. Plus its longer than the room. So its not just a smooth unroll.

I will look at that link thankyou ☺️

I don't know much about it. DS is starting sen school in September. Its something to do with that. I only found out yesterday. Its done for all children starting the school.

"Its done for all children starting the school"

Didn't you ask why?

Are all these kids incontinent?

Or does attending that school cause a type of bedwetting that's infectious?

My brain hurts.

WhatNoRaisins · Today 14:29

Look OP me and my DH don't have half the challenges that you talk about here and we wouldn't attempt DIY like these. Get this done because you're in the middle of it but be kinder to yourself in the future.

Frequency · Today 14:35

Put the roll against the wall, so it's going to unroll the right way around. Pull half of the excess (roughly) out and squish it against the wall, slightly unroll, have DS standing at one end, you at the other end, and unroll.

Once you get going, it's not that hard. Moving the bloody thing is the hardest part (I've done this a few times. DD2 has the biggest room in the house, so when she mentioned sheet vinyl I mentioned eviction Grin, but I did concede that if she could get the bastarding thing upstairs I would help with the fitting).

I have laid it in my own bedroom. And hall way. And 2 other bedrooms . That was about 3 months a go. I did struggle but I managed in the end.

I feel weak, and drained i wasn't the best 3 months ago bit i hadn't realised it had got worse . I also bought the lino a while back.

With the cleaning thats done. Since saying I haven't mopped yet I have mopped the living room. I cant do the hall yet because ds stuff is in there waiting yo be picked up by moving van. They are an hour late.

No i didn't its routine for children that start that start that school i didn't feel the need to ask. I will find out exactly what it is when she's here. Maybe you would have asked thats fine. I didn't thats my choice. We are all different we don't all do things the same.

You're missing that there are two concurrent issues 😂

  1. @Whyohwhy99 has started a renovation project which was to put lino down in all the bedrooms. She got exhausted, stopped, but now 16 year old daughter is waiting for her to fit it in her room. Fitting it required dismantling the whole bedroom, which was more tiring than anticipated. Now @Whyohwhy99 is in a fix because she can't undo it and can't move forward without help, but there isn't any.
  2. @Whyohwhy99 's DS is starting a new specialist school, so the complex needs worker wants to come out and do paperwork. This is nothing to do with 1) but it does mean that she needed to tidy up downstairs and make the house presentable.

The two issues have collided and paralysed her brain, which is particularly common in ADHD, but there is no actual diagnosis.

The sentence 'it's done for all new kids at the school' refers to paperwork, not lino flooring.

Op you're getting a really hard time on here. Can I just say well done for doing it yourself. I often think to myself if a bloke can do this so can I 😃

Fluffyscrubberdo · Today 14:53

So if there’s a whole room free because another DS is moving out today surely your DD can still move back in whether her room is finished or not?

Why does the carpet need to be taken up because someone is coming to fill in some forms?

Pistachiocake · Today 15:01

So you're saying it's not done because you can't ask her to help because she's been nasty?
If that's right, it's on her. At 16, unless she has medical issues, she should be just as capable of doing this as most adult women.

Theres no bed in there. I can't get her mattress down. Its a memory foam and really heavy.

Ok just an observation, please don't take offence, are you diagnosed yourself? As you are most likely on the spectrum. Both myslef and DH are. I'm autism, hes ADHD.
There is someone coming to your house that needs tidying up before they come. And you have decided that the task that really needs doing is stripping all the furniture and flooring out of one of your children's (not even the child this visit concerns) bedrooms. A massive task, you are not physically able to complete yourself or in the time you have. That is ADHD through and through, 100% exactly what my DH would and does do.

Drop your daughters bedroom until after the visit. It is not THE priority. Sort downstairs out. And the outside entranceway to your house. Shut your daughter bedroom door. These people have no reason to go in there. And if they do you say "oh we're redecorating DDs room over the summer." You need clean kitchen counters, clean chairs for them to sit on, pots washed, any rubbish outside gone. Any rubbish outside of bins, gone.

Then 16yo comes home and helps redecorate her own bedroom.

Exactly this!
