police are looking for a suspect with Islamist links.

yesterday I saw that islamic bookshops run by the Muslim brotherhood (who are banned in Egypt and I think the UAE) are bringing “workers” over on skilled worker visas. The UAE has stopped government scholarships to British universities because they are worried about their young people being radicalised here!

islamic terrorism is a problem. 75% of Mi5’s watch list are Muslim.

how do we remain a safe and tolerant place for the many peaceful Muslims while still retaining our values and safety?

Why would a German attack his own people? He must have been brought up with Western values and a Western mindset. He is a European.

The suspect had apparently tried to join the Islamic State but had been rejected. Perhaps he was trying to prove he was worthy of joining by carrying out this attack? That was my first thought.

Researching my family tree I have several ancestors who fought on the 1st WW. One entered the theatre of war on 9/9/14 and fought at the battle of the Somme amongst others, came home after 5 years and went to work down the pit. Which in today's opinion would be traumatising in itself.

Another was discharged as medically unfit 6 months after the end of the war with 'hysteria' after he lost the ability to speak while washing bloody bandages which obviously triggered severe PTSD. Had psychotherapy to regain speech, speech came back with a stammer which resolved after more therapy. Discharged as 'fit for civilian work' and went down the pit.

Both had MH problems for the rest of their lives but didn't stop them from working and providing for their large families as there was no other option. No PIP or ESA or UC.

And they didn't commit terrorist attacks.

Neither did their wives. One of which suffered the death of 2 DC from measles 3 years apart while waking up every day not knowing if her husband was dead in a foreign field while looking after 4 other DC.

Terrorism is a complex political and social choice, not a medical or biological symptom.

He isn't. He's an Islamist born into a country which he has either been raised to despise or been radicalised into despising.

I'm English with a tiny bit of Irish. If I'd have been born in Japan to my parents I don't suddenly become Japanese.

I may become a Japanese citizen but it wouldn't make me Japanese because my DNA, ethnicity, heritage, culture and so on is not Japanese.

I think there might have been some whitewashing going on there then. Prevent has been accused of "cultural timidity" and an institutional fear of being accused of Islamophobia (and other racism). In reality Islamic terrorism remains the primary terrorist threat to the UK, at around 80% of MI5's counterterrorism caseload.

Why yes, constantly. Every time there's an attack. It's most peculiar, but it must be true otherwise why would they tell us this? The government always has our best interests at heart and are only trying to keep us safe.

DH did prevent training at work (NHS) about 10 years ago. Their scenarios were based on Northern Ireland! Remind me when the GFA was again…

The only person who enquired about Islamic terrorism was DH (who is Muslim). I guess we can only conclude that his DM took her pre-natal vitamins like a good girl… 🙄

It isn't islamophobic to say that this one perp - who does NOT represent all Muslims - has deliberately targeted 🏳️‍🌈 because acting on being gay is haram in Islam. Raised in Germany or not, this one perp has clearly been radicalised somewhere along the way. I work in education. We preach respect, tolerance and inclusion. Germans do too. And the majority of Muslims I know will be appalled at this atrocity.
But this has nothing to do with ACE or trauma. It is an attack on values that go against the extremist's own.

I have a neuroscientist son and it’s an area he’s focussed on. So out of interest I’ve been looking at

maternal separation, malnutrition and prenatal trauma and I’ve been shocked by what he’s been telling me as a person in this field
The science is really shocking

Whilst I’m sure some posters know me as pro pal and anti war
i have no agenda here other than to highlight
the need to understand the effects early and prebirth traumas have on our brains ( esp if not dealt with after )

Its therefore significant that countries look beyond dealing with just the fallout when something bad happens in our own countries but to understand we could all be doing more to stop bringing up further generations of traumatised people

( a 24hr max period maternal separation alone on post natal day 9 caused a 20% decrease in neurons for example. And that just 24hours )

I have been watching the German news as I live there. Did some more googling.
The attacker was undergoing a de-radicalisation course and was supposed to be in prison but because of appeals he was free.
This I find so stupid
The May 2026 Sentence: In May 2026, Berlin's Tiergarten district court sentenced him to one year and ten months for preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state. This followed his arrest in Lebanon and extradition to Germany after attempting to join Islamic State territory in Syria.

He was born in Germany, his mother had become a German citizen 3 years before. Why didn’t they let him stay in Syria and refuse him entry back to Germany. That would have been safer for everyone and one person wouldn’t be dead and many more seriously injured.

I am also surprised that the van got any where near anyone. Normally we have these huge concrete blocks around anything open like Christmas markets and festivals so this does not happen. It isn’t nice to see but it does make you feel more secure.

Why did they not just leave him there. Why bring him back to a country where he would be a danger.

Last week a young man that went to the same university as my DC was stabbed and killed walking from the supermarket back to the student accommodation that my DC had also lived in. Only 50km from where I live.
Complete strangers, no fight, just a kitchen knife twice in the upper body. The life of a 22 year old gone. Plus the man probably won’t be charged as he is now under psychiatric care.

I don’t understand this world any more.

Extremist Islamism and far right fascism do share some beliefs/values/behaviours that one could argue islamic terrorist could indeed be actually a fascist. 🤔

I do not understand the journalist's tweet though - she argued that the attack wasn't against freedom/all of Germany but a result of the politicians/political parties who aren't allies but the bloke she is talking to is SPD? I thought they were centrist.

In the last month in Germany
Six people (all social workers )murdered in a mother and child home in Stade near Hamburg .The murderer who was Turkish and a known criminal but still allowed to enter Germany's since committed suicide in his cell

A 22 year old student was stabbed to death in the middle of the day in Trier .He was just finished his shopping and walking home when stabbed by a 22 year old from Afghanistan .

and now we have another young girl dead who was just out enjoying a sunny Saturday in Berlin.Countless others are injured and the perpetrator is Lebanese .
The politicians are coming out with their usual thoughts and prayers and the usual bla bla bla .Nothing will change and the young people will again bear the brunt of the failure to make sure these crazy Islamists are no longer wandering the streets .There will be out cry though when everyone votes for AFD.

It's almost as though people don't like this happening. Incredible.
