What did you drink?

Dh and I are trying to remember the drinks of our youth. (Neither of us were big drinkers, so we didn’t actually drink most of these!)

We remember:

Lager and Lime
Something and Blackcurrant - was that also lager, and did it have a name?
Something with Guinness in it.
Rum n Coke
Tequila Slammer, with salt and a wedge of lemon (or lime?)
Yayger Slammer (? I was not one of the Slammer crowd.)

We’re sure there were more, but we were too busy being squares 😆

I think the only thing I ever drank was the occasional lager and lime or rum n coke.

Actually, I will take that back iro Galliano, I have just found it on Amazon for £19 for 50CL. Might have to buy some (again). x

Cider and black.
Pernod and black.
And many a pint of scotch - Vaux scotch bitter was all of 80p a pint so a few of them and a bag of chips, after was a good night out for all of a fiver.

ETA the odd pint of Scrumpy jack at the Cooperage on Newcastle quayside. That stuff rotted you from the inside out but tasted so good!

Yes but I didn’t drink for first couple years - went to a frat party against my better judgment and that put me off beer for life. I ended my university years in Paris and I was fond of the odd Kir.

I went to uni in the mid 1980s but as a mature student I was not really into the drinking culture. I mostly drank lager and lime or vodka and coke as a short.

I do!
They were beautiful muted colours, purples, mauves and a delicious sort of mustard colour I seem to remember. My mum called them cocktail cigarettes and smoked them on special occasions.
I liked a menthol cigarette with a gold band at the filter if I could afford it when I was at university in the 1980s- must have been when my grant came in!

Taboo and lemonade 20/20

This sounds similar to the Purple Nasty which I remember from the 80s - snakebite made with strong cider and lager, plus blackcurrant and a shot of Pernod 🤢

Dry martini and lemonade (as in the vermouth not the proper cocktail) or wine usually. My friend was a Lambrusco fan (the cheap sweet fizzy stuff, not the decent stuff you can get now)

My boyfriend (later husband, even later ex husband) made home made wine and we drank a lot of that, it was evil but potent.

Usually lager and lime or blackcurrant but if you really wanted to get drunk - Snake bite (half lager/half cider), Legover (Cherry B + cider) or Black Russia ( Pernod, cider and blackcurrant). When we were being ‘posh’ a bottle of Hock, Lieufraumilch or Mateas Rose or Martini Bianco + lemonade. We also used to make ‘punch’ with sherry, white wine, cider and orange + lemonade. If we were really flush, a small bottle of vodka.

In the mid 80s we drank port and lemon, cinzano and lemonade and babychams

Parties for medical, nursing and allied students in those days could be pretty wild. Occasionally a bottle of medication would be nicked from a ward and stirred into the punch. Some adverse reactions put people in hospital.
