What did you drink?

Dh and I are trying to remember the drinks of our youth. (Neither of us were big drinkers, so we didn’t actually drink most of these!)

We remember:

Lager and Lime
Something and Blackcurrant - was that also lager, and did it have a name?
Something with Guinness in it.
Rum n Coke
Tequila Slammer, with salt and a wedge of lemon (or lime?)
Yayger Slammer (? I was not one of the Slammer crowd.)

We’re sure there were more, but we were too busy being squares 😆

I think the only thing I ever drank was the occasional lager and lime or rum n coke.

Cider mostly but I also liked dry Martini and lemonade, Dubonnet and lemonade, vodka and orange juice, Lambrusco or any old cheap wine.

Two dogs? Alcoholic lemonade. Think k that was 90s more.

Night train. Which was some totally evil American wine cooler thing.
One of my mates had done Russian and spent a year in Leningrad(as was). She introduced us to the delights of the various Stoli varieties. Lemon in the summer, Hunter in winter(was spicy)
We had a thing for cocktails and got really dressed up one friday afternoon, went to a bar and drank our own body weight in dry martinis. Unfortunately all we had to eat was the olives in the martinis.☠️

You didn't go to Sheffield by any chance?

The youngsters of today don’t know they are born with their Prosecco. They’d not be able to cope with snakebite and black. Thinking of challenging my DCs, but I don’t think I’d be able to cope with a thimbleful of snakebite and black now, never mind the pints of stuff I used to put away!

Dubonnet and gin or, if out, a half of Theakston's Old Peculiar, but I was never a beer drinker.
Probably drank more wine on my year abroad, but only with meals.

1/2 pt of cider usually, Tia Maria and Coke if feeling flush 😂

Something called a depth charge - basically a shot glass of some liqueur (usually Cointreau for me) dropped in a pint of something (lager for most, but cider for me because I didn't like lager.).

It was LETHAL 😂

Other than that- scrumpy from one of those opaque white gallon jugs (classy) or if flush, vodka and coke/ cointreau and lemonade/ as per a pp black russians.

Dry Martini and Lemonade was really popular. I bought a bottle of martiniba few years ago to reminisce - my daughters couldn't believe we drank something so perfume-smelling! And it was horrible.

In the sixth form we'd dress vintage and try to get drinks that matched outfits - Blue Bols type things with lemonade. Then you'd get a matching Cocktail Sobranie lit up. Amazing what you could afford with a Saturday job on the local market

I went to university in 1987 - but I was 30 years old! So I drank white wine and G&Ts!

Hull late 80s: snakebite & black, bitter, pangalactic gargleblasters at Spiders nightclub (one of every shot plus some mixers, tasted vaguely fruity).
As a schoolchild, Thunderbird, Babycham, a local brand of fruit wines, Strongbow cider (always gave me really bad gut ache).

Our Uni shop sold Strawberry Concorde for 99p a bottle. I think it was sort of pretending to be wine. I’m not sure what it was but we drank quite a lot of it.
Also pints of Snakebite and black through a straw as it was meant to get you drunk quicker and therefore be cheaper.

79-85 …not a lot. Liebfraumilch, Mateus Rose and for special occasions Asti Spumante with my BF (now DH).
Malibu and pineapple with flatmates. Martini rosso or Cinzano and lemonade. For some reason if we went for a pub meal (chicken or scampi in a basket!) a half of mild.

We called snakebite and black Diesel I think? I was there late 90’s though.

Cinzano and lemonade. I used to buy St Moritz fags if I was going to a ball. There was always Pimm's at the uni ball. Also I would have the occasional Bacardi Breezer. Or was that the early 90s? Great times.

I still hanker after Harvey Wallbanger, and have been known to buy Galliano at least twice in my adult life, it is quite hard to buy now !
